Interesting. I agree that the fact that you can't divorce honorably might explain a thing or two.

Jehovahs witness men who trade old wives in for new....
by candidlynuts inhow prevalent was this in your area?
jw man in good standing, elders, ministerial servants, all levels, i have seen them trade off their old wife and marry a younger woman.
they might get df'd for a year or so but eventually return and get all their priveleges back , only difference is they have a new woman on their arm.. the old wife usually has to move to another kingdom hall or accept the new couple being in her face all the time.

What religion would you recommend for those who want to leave the WTS?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inafter i decide to leave the jehovah's witnesses one day,i will not look for a new religion.
the damage that the wts has caused me leads me to mistrust all men and religion.. i trusted these men from the wts .
i gave up 35 years of my life to find out that the wts is just a printing and real estate corporation disguised as a religion.

I fully, fully agree with Leavingwt: "love".
I myself am an atheist, and became a stronger one after my experience with the Witnesses. But your religion is your business.
My deeply felt advice would be that you should do your own quest and find what suits you. Don't ever ask to be led again. That is the biggest lesson I have learned from my involvement with witnesses, and that is a lesson I can confidently pass on to you.

Only a willful LIAR needs WIGGLE ROOM!
by Terry inthe watchtower, may 1, 1975, said of a watchtower bible school of gilead graduation held on march 2, 1975: (italics added).
another speaker, f. w. franz, the society's vice- president, forcefully impressed on the audience the urgency of the christian preaching work.
he stressed that, according to dependable bible chronology, 6,000 years of human history will end this coming september according to the lunar calendar.

I had always wondered why prophecies are never stated in very clear terms. Something such as "Get on the 5:30 train to anywhere", which assumes the "5:30 train" will be there at 5:30, which was the case. I do agree with Terry that it seems unnecessary to give yourself "wiggle room" unless you know that something can be the matter with your prophecy, "something" being "It might not happen". I had always wondered why prophecies always sound like horoscopes. "Something positive is coming to you today". I suppose that a "positive" AIDS test result would still qualify as "positive".
It's also really weird that YHWH should always speak indirectly. If there were no room to argue about prophecies past, for example, then the people would have an easier time converting to whatever religion held the truth.
I don't remember where, but I read that Bertrand Russell used to say that, if he happened to meet God, he would say "Not enough convincing evidence", or the like. God should be reasonable enough, I believe.

In memory of Charles Taze Russell who died 92 years ago.
by AndersonsInfo inpastor charles taze russells wife, maria, divorced him in 1906. the writings of maria russell e-document contains an eleven-page enlightening introduction that outlines her fall from her husbands affection because he said she was endeavoring to take over the editorship of his religious journal, zions watch tower.
is that true?
also discussed is the question of mrs. russells acumen as a writer which her husband and followers called into question.

Door to Door Message? A DIVERSION! Where does the MONEY go??
by Terry inthe door to door work is a sham.. the central activity of the watchtower bible and tract society is not spreading their so-called "message" about the kingdom of jehovah established in the heavens in 1914.. that's a load of propaganda.. the door to door activity is feckless in producing converts.
in fact, it is an immense failure of mammoth proportions!.
but, it is a diversion.

As You've Gotten Older Have You Changed Your Thoughts On Marriage?

I think everybody's thoughts on marriage change as we age. For some time I have also believed that marriage would be much more of a happy thing if society (not just the WTS, but society as a whole) didn't see it as something that has to concern anybody but the two people actually involved. I noticed that someone mentioned that he felt like the marriage concerned the whole congregation. Yes, that's the big problem I see. The fact that for some reason people think that they have a say in what should be just the way two people share their lives and love each other.

Whatever you do reflects on Jehovah
by dgp ini heard a witness say this.
sorry if my question seems stupid, but i'm not a jw and i don't know any better.
i have the feeling that this phrase means that you have to carefully weight your every word and action so the worldlies won't have a bad opinion of the wts?.

I truly, truly appreciate all the posts. I see they represent different angles and it seems to me that there's part of all that in the person in question. I believe, however, that in the particular circumstance we were at the moment, the words of Sir82 are closest to what she meant:
Don't let anyone who isn't a JW know about anything bad within the organization
She would want me in. That's why she presents her saying that I'm "an acquaintance", and her saying that we can't be anything beyond that, unless I'm a witness, as her own decision. It's not that the society would force her to cut ties, or face the consequences; "She" wants that.
Thanks to all, and I look forward to more posts.

JWs and piracy (digital kind)
by teel ini'd like to hear of other people's experience regarding the jws inclination to pirating software, music, films.. this of course is relative to your country.
because i live in a relatively poor country, the rate of piracy is extremely high, individuals practically never buy software, music and films are bought now and then.
this of course is against the law here too.. so what do jws do?
