What "Unwritten Rules" Did Your Congregation Have?
by minimus ini knew of a hall that allowed only white shirted speakers on the platform for sunday public talks!
when a visiting speaker did not wear the official white shirt he was either told that he couldn't give the talk or he could change shirts,as the hall kept a variety of sizes, just in case of an emergency!!!
i don't make this up.

There was a congregation near mine that banned women from wearing red dresses. "Babylon the Great is wearing red in the publications! We don't want to be like that!"

Dec. 15th WT - WT Society REALLY Minimizes Earning a Decent Living
by flipper init's ridiculous.
i saw this so much in my 44 years in the jehovah's witness cult.
whether it was elders, pioneers, or other people in the cult criticizing others for working too much at their employment or missing some service or meetings due to employment.

I wonder if the amount of nagging you get depends on how big of a check you write. Are the elders "more understanding" of your situation if you cut the hall a sizable contribution every month?

My dad told me one day that he was thinking about changing his hours at work. The shift he works is three days on, four days off and he was thinking about changing to the normal Monday through Friday. When I asked him, "why?!", he said so that he could make it to Sunday meeting. I talked him out of it, pointing out that he was going out in service a couple of times during the week and making the weekly meetings. I told him that the positives of his work hours greatly out weighed the "negative" of missing Sundays. He even managed to pioneer while working full-time. Couldn't do that working days.
(I don't really want him to go out in field service, but he's been a lot happier with this shift. When I were little, he worked seven days a week for months on end and was a grouchy a$$hole. With this shift, he can work a bunch of overtime and still have a couple days off. Much happier!)
Going to Sunday meetings was the only reason he had for switching shifts. I know that someone at the hall was making comments about it.

A debate for S.O.M
by Lillith26 ini am not a christain, but i do read the bible and believe myself to be a reasonabily moral person.
i have homosexual friends and relatives and would like to see just one bible passage where jesus himself says "men should not lay with men".... perhaps i may have missed it- or perhaps you practice paulianity instead of christianity?????

Som, in another thread you mentioned Sodom and Gemorrah being proof that God does not like homosexuality.
Genesis 19- Here we see Lot offering up his two virgin daughters to the townsmen of Sodom. If you read verse 4, it says that “…all the men from every part of the city of Sodom…” The verse says that all the men of Sodom were there- wait a minute. All of the men of Sodom were homosexual? What are the chances? That did not make sense to me. I did a little online research and found that the Hebrew word used in that scripture, yada, usually is translated as the verb “to know”. http://www.biblestudytools.com/Lexicons/Hebrew/freqdisp.cgi?book=ge&number=03045&count=52&version=kjv
The versions that say the men of Sodom wanted to have sex with the strangers have a blatant mistranslation of the Bible. I checked through the three translations that I personally have, and they are all wrong!
So why would Lot offer up his two virgin daughters to the townspeople? Lot wasn’t offering his daughters to be gang raped by a bunch of homosexual men, which doesn’t make any sense in the first place. Why would homosexual men want women? Sodom was known for idol worship. (Go ahead a Google it.) Genesis 19:8 Lot says, “…you can do what you like with them.” What Lot was doing was offering his daughters to the crowd to be used as human sacrifice to pagan gods. That's why Sodom and Gemorrah were destroyed.

You might even qualify for financial assistance from your state. I would go to your local unemployment office to see. Also, explain your situation to your advisor. I know a couple of people on the board have mentioned that their advisors were very helpful when they heard about the discouragement for going to college. They can also keep you notified about grants and scholarships.
Many colleges have day cares on campus. You can look into that for any classes that you have to be at the school for.
Both my husband and I are going to school right now. Our situation sounds a bit easier than yours, since we don't have kids. It will be a challenge, but keep reminding yourself that it will all be worth it when you're done!
