I am certain the majority of older, well educated dubs are are aware it's all a crock of shit, but are too embedded to leave, they would lose too much in terms of family, friends and status.

What’s the deal with all the Smart-Educated JWs?
by John Aquila inwe talk a lot about most jws being uneducated, uninformed, and that they lack critical thinking skills, but in my area there is a lot of jws that went to the university, medical school, law school, and came back to the organization.
in my circuit, that i know of, we had two electrical engineers, one computer engineer with a ph.d. eight teachers with a bachelors degree and three of those with a masters in education.
we had two medical doctors, one was a pediatrician who closed his business about 3 years ago and went to bethel.

New member checking in
by Old Major inbeen reading for about 2 and a half years, thought i would take the plunge and sign up.. my circumstances... i live in uk, serving as ms. i am fully awake.
i can not leave due to family, so just treating the meetings as a bit of a social club.
i would like to give out more details, but i think you all know the drill.. complete disillusionment and i suppose natural curiosity woke me up.. don't know what else to say right now, just hello, and i hope to get to know some of you guys better.

Jehovah's Chariot slams into reverse!
by apocalypse inthe question i will be asking dubs at the hall this week is, "since jesus is directing the slave.... why has he done a 180..?".
last sunday we studied how jesus is directing the slave to build an average of 5 kingdom halls a day since 2000. why has he changed his mind and gone in the completely opposite direction?.
if this 'change' is not securely lodged in their craw by the time i am through, then i will eat my hat..

I hope people realised that previous post was tongue-in-cheek.
I live in a fairly rural area in the UK, we have a lot of shot guns here, for peasant errrmm I mean pheasant shooting, they are not carried openly and it is very difficult to use them in a killing spree as you have to reload the cartridge after the cartridge (or 2 if double barrelled) has been discharged.
As Simon pointed out we had a few spree shootings (probably averaging out at 1 per decade) over the last few decades. Two that spring to mind were Dunblain and one quite local to me in Hungerford (a gun nut called Michael Ryan), these resulted in tighter gun control measures which have resulted in an even lower incidence of gun crime.
Bottom line - more guns do not correlate to increased personal safety.

So sick of the abuse...
by iwasblind ini am still serving as an elder but just hanging in there.
i think their quandry is that they don't see me out in the field, but when they need encouragement and decent prayer they come to me.. i just got off the phone to this poor sister who i have only met twice.
she is not even in my congregation (her sister is).

Why doesn't the UK have more spree killings like this? In theory with our lack of guns and no way of protecting ourselves the criminals should be massacring our children every day!

I went down in the first Round!
by John Aquila inthere is a visitor brother in town and from what ive been told, he has been a missionary for many years and they were having a get together for him.
i took my mom to that get-together yesterday and stayed for a few minutes.
i heard a group around a table with the visitor brother talking about how hard it was getting in the world with so many distractions and that many of the brothers were falling into the trap and leaving jehovahs organization.
