Upcoming Study with a Bethel Brother
by PSacramento inso, after a lengthy discussion with my mom on friday, she asked me ( again) to have a study with a bethel brother because the question i ask are too "above" her knowledge and she feels that only a well trained bethel brother can show me the "truth".. i voiced to her my issue:.
i love my mother, father and sister that are jw's and the last thing i want is to lose them, we had already drifted apart because of their new found faith ( my mom was first, about 8 years ago, then my older sister and just recently, last july 4th, my dad), i told her that if i have these study with a bethel brother i will, most likely, sya thing and state sources that may get me brnaded as an "apostate", i asked her, to be honest and truthful with me and to tell me that, if i get branded that and they are told, suggest to them, to stop dealing with me, would they?.
she said that no organization tells her who to deal with, even more so in regards to family.. i was not convinced, nevertheless i agreed and this wednesday will have my first study with him, first topic the mwt, my issue with certain translations ( such as romans 10:13, colossians and so forth) and the name "jehovha".. .

GB Lineage question
by PSacramento inif the gb is the discreet and faitful slave, what are it's ties to the 1st or 2nd century christians?.
scripture shows that the apostles meet with elders ( distinguished from apostles) and the whole of the (local) congregation to reach a decision on important matters ( see acts and so forth, they don't show a "governing body" at all, but if we suspend judgement for a moment and give the benefit of the doubt that this was the eary version of a governing body, how does the wt traces its lineage back to them ?.

Who is the ruler of this world?
by PSacramento inok, so my mom sneaked a wt literature into my kids pack when they stayed at her home on tuesday, the one that says that satan is the ruler of this world.. so my little one sofia shows me and says, "see daddy, satan is ruling this world".. i take a look and read the literature and i tell me little one that, "no honey, while satan can and does try to influence us and succeds many times, god is all powerful and god gace to his son jesus, all the authority in heaven and on earth" and i showed her the passage from matthew.. a also told her that, why we must never forget that satan tempts us that he has no power over us, other then the power we give him, jesus is our lord and all power rests in him.. of course, today when i dropped her and her little sister at my mom's ( she likes them to come over on tuesday's and thursday's), she was ready to ask if i had read that pamphlet, which i said i did, and of course she replied how satan is the ruler of this system of things.. i countered that i know only one lord and that is the son of god jesus, and i know only one god and no one else rules above them and asked my mom where in the bible does it show jesus and god subject to satan.. as you can imagine, that went over well !!.
lmao !.
i bring this up because of the thread on john 12:31.. .

Titus
by PSacramento intitus is part of what is reffered to as the "pastoral epistles" (1and 2 timothy and titus) and was written probably in the second century ( 100-150 ad) and, in the opinion of most scholars, not by paul but in "paul's name.. like the letters to timothy, titus may have been an original letter dictated by paul that had been "altered" to asnwer the questions and different doctrine views that wer ebeing voiced as paul's, at the time.. many scholars look at the differences in vocabulary, literary style, the situation of the apostle, and the theological charateristisc that seem to be moving towards the emerging "catholicisim", to base their view that paul did not write ( at least not completely) the pastoral epistles in they way they have been handed down.. that said, back to titus that has some interesting points that i would like to discuss:.
the writer says that god is our saviour, 1:3, and jesus is our saviour, 1:4 and goes one to repeat this in 3:4 ( god is saviour) and 3:6 ( jesus is saviour), the writer also adds the (controversial?
) passage of 2:13 - waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great god and saviour jesus christ (esv).. the writer seems to be holding fast to that god and jesus are/is our saviour, something that paul himself says in the contecxt of jesus is our saviour, for our salvation is through him, to god, but in a repetive mode, the writer seems to be either, contridicting himself or saying that both are or, in the early trinity sense perhaps, god and jesus are (singular) our saviour, they are one.. verse 2:13 can be interprested in two was, typically, that jesus is god and saviour or that the writer is reffereing to god and jesus.. the first view is typically trinitarian, the second is not (obviously) but the second interpretation has verse 14 to deal with:.

Ephesians
by PSacramento inephesians is a letter in the nt, typically supposed to have ben authour by paul to the ephesians but not only the authorship is debated but so is the target audience, the ephesians part not being noted in the earliest available scriptures.. dated at around 8-100 ad and supposedly during paul's captivity, it does gives us some insight into (perhaps) 2nd generation chrisianity and paul's effect on them.. chapter 1 has some passages of note:.
grace is given freely (we are blessed with it) by jesus ( called beloved or the one he, god, loved) -1:6. in jesus we have redemption, forgiveness of sins according to god's grace - 1:7. god's plan is to bring everything ( heaven and earth) together under jesus, god has an (unknown to us) timeline for that.
- 1:10. we have been chosen ( are heirs), predestined according to god - 1:11 and, being the first to have hope in christ, might be for the praise of hid glory - 1:12.. 1:13 -"and you were also included when you heard the word of truth, the gospel and having believed, were marked by the holy spirit with a seal".

Philippians 2:5-11
by PSacramento inin paul's letter to the phillipans, typically dated 50-60 ad, paul says:.
your attitude should be the same as christ.
you being the very nature(form) of god, did not consider equality to god as something to be held on to (grasped), but made himself nothing, thaking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness.

Thessalonians
by PSacramento inpauls letter to the thessalonians, his first one is, typically dated about 50-51 ad, making it the oldest of the nt letters/books.. 2thessalonians is dated about 30 years after, or more and though some have debated the direct authorship, that is not the point of this thread.. in the first letter paul mentions how hapy that he and his followers are about the thessaloninas, how strong their faith is , he mentions how the gospel spread not just via words but via the hs and how they ( paul and his buddies) worked night and day so that no one would support them as they preached ( very commendable and shows how preaching was done 50 years after the death of christ).. paul mentions t them, tells thin actually, to avoid sexual immorality, not to worng each other or take advantage of each other, to continue in brotherly love, lead a quite life and be hard working so as to be respected and not dependant on anyone.. he goes on to tell them not to be ignorant that jesus dies and rose again and that god wil bring with jesus, all those who have fallen alseep with him ( in the faith), there seems to have been concerns in thessolonia about those that have died before the coming of christ, to which paul continues on saying that jesus will come down from heaven with a commanding call, with the voice of an archangel proclaiming his decent and with the sound of the trumpet of god and that will lead to the dead ( sleeping) to rise up and together with those alive, all will be caught up together and met jesus in the clouds and will be together forever.. paul makes it clear that no one knows when this will happen, but to remain vigilant and alert and with self control and that theu have been appointed for salvation through jesus.. .
it seems that paul felt that the second coming might happen in their life time or at least some in thessalonia had thsoe concerns and as such were worried about those already dead.. .
