one night i received a phone call from one of my elder buddies at the time and he asked me to go get something to eat with him at a local all night restaurant where a sister worked. she had not been to meetings in some time and when people inquired, she said it was her work schedule since she worked two jobs. so at midnight, and mind you he said i had to wear a suit since this was going to be a shepherding call, we went for a midnight breakfast. we walked in and asked if she was working, and she was. we, i mean he, asked to be put in her section and they did. he preteneded the whole time we were there that we were just getting a late snack. before we left he laid into her about not being at meetings and how it makes her family feel. he also told her that she was turning her back on jehovah. she broke down in tears at her job because she was hiding the fact that she had been dating a guy she worked with at her other job, which was her primary income. he told her that she had to quit and do something else to get away from him. he then got up and paid the bill and walked out the door. i noticed that he left a lousy tip for her so i went back to the table as she was cleaning up and told her not to make any decisions until she has time to think clearly because it was obviously unfair to attack her at work. i then gave her a tip which was more than our bill and left. the entire trip back to my house i let him have it that it was obviously not appropriate and i used very strong language to convey it. the sister ended up quitting both jobs and moving away and actually is still in and now married to a ms. supposedly pioneering but not sure. sad, because it validated how he handled the situation as if it was the right way when we all know that this is not. he got lucky

i know some jw's who only watch movies with specific ratings. some will watch only PG and G. others will watch PG-13. some will watch R and even admit it but to only admit to certain ones. what movies would you watch when you were in and where any you had to sneak in?
i have always watched up to R rated movies. it never bothered me since i was an adult. i have jw friends who watch them as well. but i know which ones i can watch these with and which ones not to. sad that i have to hide movies in my home when visitors come calling.

What does a congregations 'record' say about it?
by babygirl30 inthe cong i belonged to was very large...it was the 'popular' hall!
i say that because it was a new building (double-khall), a lot of families went to this hall whether they were in the territory or not - if their relation went there or their 'friends' were in this cong - they came too!
lots of young couples...they drank together, they partied together, they go out clubbing together, and they all had their kids together.

cantleave has it right. the first question would be directed at the elder body. it would be looked to them to see if there is a secret sin. if nothing is found, a "shake up" of the body may take place deleting some if not all the body and bringing in a new group. however, not to that degree, but all congos have problems. we had one congo in our circuit that was very large and was a popular congo due to all the opportunities for young people to be together, alot of spiritual families. within a period of six months after the first younger person was df'd, a whole group of younger ones were either df'd or put on some sort of reproof. many left, only one or two came back after a few years. the elder body did get a big shake up at one point, which seemed to bring things back in line. i tend to believe things like this are cyclical though. maybe time for fresh blood to run the house for awhile.

switching congos
by rockmehardplace inspoke with a friend of mine and he was telling me of all the changes in his congo.
said that at one time, the elder body was 95% white and 5% minority.
he said that they have had people who are moving into their congo because the larger percentage of the body is now made up of minorities.

spoke with a friend of mine and he was telling me of all the changes in his congo. said that at one time, the elder body was 95% white and 5% minority. now, it is 40/60. he said that they have had people who are moving into their congo because the larger percentage of the body is now made up of minorities. even one elder left his current congo to move into the new congo because there is some "color" in the body as the elder put it. does this happen in alot of congos? just thinking about how race was never an issue to jw's but the truth is, it really does play a large role in the congos.

All right, do JW's REALLY do not marry outside of their faith?
by dgp ini've been a lurker in this site for some time.
i am not a jehovah's witness, but was here because i wanted to know more about the organization, since i am in love with a jw woman.
she recently rejected me, on the grounds that "she would not risk her relationship with jehovah for someone who would die in (snap fingers)".

rockmehardplace
odd question. she rejected you because she is a jw. very true that most jw's will not marry outside of the faith. however, they do not date outside the faith either. not that it is my business, but were you in a committed relationship? I would answer yes if you were wanting to pursue marriage, but i have heard of stranger things. to answer your question though, she most likely would not marry outside the 'faith' but then again, probably wouldnt date either. I would think that at this point, her guilt for having a relationship with a 'non-believer' would probably leave her with torn emotions. most jw's are concerned with appearances, so if she married a non-believer she would be viewed negatively by others for some time to follow.

Generation Change
by garlic81 ini know there was an article on john barr's comments at the annual meeting this year.
i've posted the reference below.
i'm wondering if they are thinking of changing the belief back to that some annointed alive in 1914 will be alive when the tribulation starts?
-
rockmehardplace
i think i am more confused now than ever before. what i take from it is that the big day will start at some point in time that the ones who see it will be ones who knew ones who were present in 1914, right? so if i was 23 and anointed during 1914, and i died at the age of 89, that would have meant i died in 1980. if someone else was 35 and part of the anointed in 1978, that would make them 66 today. because the one who died in 1980 and the one who was anointed in 1978, they crossed paths. this means that even if the one who is 66 today lives till he is 96, we could ideally have 30 more years. mathematically, you can say that they just bought themselves 30 to 50 years. now that is job security.

I have justed avoided phone calls from an elder
by wouldacouldashoulda inin my 4 years of fading i only had a couple of calls and visits.

i get calls and drop bys all the time. i usually let it go to vm on all calls that are unknown to me. if i do not recognize the number i will not answer. i get text messages also but i dont return those. the drop by is a little difficult. not much i can do other than live my life and ask that they call before they come over and then say now is not good time because i have something going on that needs to be handled immediately.
