Thanks for the information. Any reasons given for this? Bigger venue, better seating, better multimedia equipment? -

Do you believe what the Bible teaches? If "yes", why? If "no", why?
by Tenacious inif you do believe in the bible's message, do you believe society has gotten better, worse, or has remained the same?.
if you don't believe in the bible's message, do you believe society has gotten better, worse, or has remained the same?.
on a personal note, there are many things that i can't help but notice that coincide with what the apostle paul wrote to timothy in his second letter chapter 3 regarding tough times:.

Violence is in decline, this is well-documented across multiple fields such as history, archaeology, economics and sociology. As many others have proposed, you should read Steven Pinkers book, but be aware it is sometimes hard to stomach for instance when describing medival torture. Here is a popular lecture which should give you an idea:
http://www.ted.com/talks/steven_pinker_on_the_myth_of_violence?language=en
What is your evidence (i.e. not intuition or sole events) that violence is on the increase?
With respect to the OP, no, I do not believe there is a God like the christian God. There are several reasons for this, primarily that I do not think there is are any good reasons why a god should exist. The best reasons why a god exists (such as those given by Dr. Craig) boil down to appeal to metaphysical intuitions we have no way of knowing are true or not at the present time, since we would never accept that something existed based solely on an unverifiable intuition, I don't see why I should accept a God exist based on this evidence.
On top of that there are contrary evidence. For instance it could have been the case that science and archaeology verified the major events in the OT; as it happened we know from science there was no flood and evolution explains the diversity of life thereby knocking out the pillars of genesis 1, and biblical archaeology has for the most part disproven the major events in the OT up to around the Babylonian exile. It is important to stress that one can, like the expensive defense attorney, begin to explain these findings away one by one by appeal to miracles, satan, conspiracies and the odd piece of data which is not yet explained, but the bigger picture is science could have verified the bible but turned out to disconfirm it.

this guy is gold, "the better the university, the greater the danger" (9 min). Figures he thinks there is no danger in a "spiritual education" lol. -

At 2 minutes in: "As most of you know, I am a father"
I think that's a pretty interesting statement. It indicates the TV is aimed at JWs, and he believe most JWs know his personal details.

by Coded Logic inwarning: poes law may apply.
i just wanted to take a moment and remind everyone that all muslims are good people.
"real" muslims would never kill in the name of their religion .

There are speculations that this may be related to the hundreds of delusional turds floating to and from Syria to train and fight for ISIS. I do think going to fight with those genocidal maniacs should qualify one to stand trial, much like fighting against ones country for an enemy force. -

Good Netflix shows to watch
by Simon inin the long winter nights you need some good tv shows to watch while you wait for the eternity between seasons of game of thrones.. we've watched marco polo (pretty good) and have just started watching orange is the new black which is not at all what i imagined (didn't know it was funny!).
house of cards is on the list too as we've heard good things about that.. anyone have any others that are worth seeing?.

Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

Simon: It's more than one line - what if someone creates a theme and forgets the 'if' for instance?
Then properly someone would find out and the iff-statement could be added. Unless the feature was implemented such that the defaulted to e.g. a pirate flag, in which case I would suppose it would be the same in all themes.
Should the option be opt-in or opt-out?
I dont really care. Is this not simply a matter of "alter table users add column show_flag bool default='false'"?
Does it apply to new accounts and old in the same way?
Why not just the same?
