Slimboyfat --- just trolling you a bit but cant resist: are you implying the op might not be the most accurate depiction of events -- like it might be partly untrue in an almost objective sense? like the truth depends on what did or did not happend and not so much about the telling? (Sorry cant resist, i have you pegged as a closeted evidentialist)

love uni: you MUST serve in our army
This is according to Talesin's close friend, the Canadian-Jew ..
well, according to this article from last year the exemption remains:
Ultra-Orthodox Celebrate Rollback of Israel Draft Law

This is not true, if you are an orthodox Jew you do not have to.

Shocking if the events in cologne are going to be a re-occuring thing. If the mayor in indeed being translated/quoted correctly it is the most awful example of victim blaming I have ever seen by a person in power!. I consider myself to belong to the left, but it is as if a segment of the left has decided to go completely teaparty-level bonkers. -

Interesting new nature article on the creation of self-replication molecules in the lab (abiogenesis)
by bohm infull text here:.
we have been able to monitor in real time and at a molecular level the diversification of self-replicating molecules into two distinct sets that compete for two different building blocks (food) and so capture an important aspect of the process by which species may arise.
as diversification into sets takes place on the timescale of weeks and can be investigated at the molecular level, this work opens up new opportunities for experimentally investigating the process through which species arise both in real time and with enhanced detail.. how new species emerge in nature is still incompletely understood and difficult to study directly.

abstract:
How new species emerge in nature is still incompletely understood and difficult to study directly. Self-replicating molecules provide a simple model that allows us to capture the fundamental processes that occur in species formation. We have been able to monitor in real time and at a molecular level the diversification of self-replicating molecules into two distinct sets that compete for two different building blocks (‘food’) and so capture an important aspect of the process by which species may arise. The results show that the second replicator set is a descendant of the first and that both sets are kinetic products that oppose the thermodynamic preference of the system. The sets occupy related but complementary food niches. As diversification into sets takes place on the timescale of weeks and can be investigated at the molecular level, this work opens up new opportunities for experimentally investigating the process through which species arise both in real time and with enhanced detail.

Where to draw the line: how Platonism haunts our discourse and the search for exorcism
by slimboyfat inin the discussion about race i adopted a position i am not entirely comfortable with.
i think there is a sense in which it is useful to distinguish categories of description that can be fruitfully defended (apples and bananas) and those that cannot (caucasian or other racial descriptions for example).
but there is a more fundamental sense in which i believe that everything is socially constructed, every single line you can think of.

Does anyone have the original copy of the Awake 2015 Jan before it was changed?
by jwfacts injan used a famous scientist to garner misleading support for creation, quoting rama singh as saying "the opposition to evolution goes beyond religious fundamentalism and includes a great many people from educated sections of the population.
2015 jan p.3) whilst the quote is accurate, it misrepresents singh's intention.
singh continues in the same paragraph, "there are several reasons why facts of evolution are not easily comprehensible by the general masses.
