More rumors, 500 families laid off from South African bethel.
by bohm infrom a recent reddit thread:.
i just received confirmation from a very trusted source in south africa bethel that up to 500 "families" (i imagine couples or singles) are getting let go from that branch.. also confirmed is the special pioneer cull.. what really strikes me about the layoffs is that the south african bethel provides literature and other needs for most of africa, a huge growth area for the org.. .

DJS: My thinking exactly. But it's got to hurt them in the long-term growth. -

cappytan: That's what I am thinking as well if all of these rumors are true (I am just copy-pasting). On top of that come other re-structuring like outsourcing truck driving in canada and properly also a lot of things going on in smaller branches we don't know about.

Essex Newspaper Confirms WT Cutting Back But Not at Chelmsford
by snugglebunny inessex chronicle october 1st as quoted.
link below.. jehovah's witnesses have quashed rumours that the bid to bring their headquarters to chelmsford could collapse due to financial turmoil.. the international bible students' association (ibsa), the organisation which circulates the christian group's literature, said on monday that the construction in temple farm in west hanningfield will continue.. an anonymous source contacted the chronicle on friday claiming a woman in the ibsa's construction department confirmed the project would terminate.. the man, a current jehovah's witness member, said: "something major is going on with the organisation financially.".
the ibsa did however confirm it was pulling the plug on other construction projects worldwide.. stephen morris, ibsa's personnel support manager at its branch relocation department, said: "in order to make best use of contributed funds, some construction projects worldwide will be delayed or cancelled.. "however, we are pleased to confirm that the temple farm project will continue.

sliding fast: "BTW the London Bethel family will reduce from 820ish to 360ish."
What is the source of this? (not that I doubt it, I am just trying to get a handle on all these numbers that are surfacing). And If this is the case, why do they need accommodation for 1200 people if there are only 360/820 Bethel family members?

Japan closed 638 Congregations lost 6,000 Publishers in 10 years!!! WHY?
by Witness 007 injapan had a massive increase in publishers from 1950-1998. then in 1998 something happened and jehovah's blessing switched off!!!.
1998 -222,912 publishers 3,802 congregations.
2006 -217,519 publishers 3,164 congregations.

What I think is most interesting about those statistics is that they lost far, far too more congregations than should be expected. I mean it averages out at 8.5 lost publishers per closed congregation(!) or in other words, a 2.5% reduction in publishers vs. a 16.8% reduction in congregations. How on earth does that make sense?
Either the WT opened FAR too many congregations in the early phase and later consolidated them, or else the numbers of publishers is padded such that the effective number of seats required has been reduced by about 15%.
If the first explanation is true, I think we should have seen the same pattern in other countries (an overall reduction in the number of congregations relative to the number of publishers). Since this is not the case I am leaning towards the numbers being padded.

The original rumor was not that the construction would not complete (of course it will!), but that it would be put on hold (i.e. progress at a lower speed). He is not really denying *that*.
Btw.: "accommodation for 1200 witness"
how many are there now?

It must be a concern of all the information that is now been leaked
by joe134cd ini have put up previous posts about this in the past, but i just thought that it was worth mentioning again.
it has to be of concern to them with how quickly information is getting leaked.
hell it even surprises at just how slowly information spreads by offical means.

are there really 8 million jw's?
by wannaexit inlast circuit assembly there was 700+ present and 1 baptized.. recently there was a foreign language assemble of over 500 and 1 baptized.. in the last 5-10 years i haven't been to one assembly where there has been more than a handful baptized.
at the memorial all i see are the same old faces that have been coming since the flood.. the hall complex i attend has 6 congregation and several groups-there is negative growth.
when you factor in the demographically aging folk and the many who have already passed away, i don't know where they get the 8 million.. i know that most of the growth is from the developing countries, but still i think they are fudging their numbers.

I think the only real way to know is to compare the response to e.g. PEW surveys with the publisher number. If the ratio changes this could indicate a change in reporting. -

How many people are there at Bethel?
by bohm inrumor has it 1600 people are going to be re-allocated to the field from bethel (which i assume refers to the brooklyn complex?).
does anyone know how many people will then remain?
i have tried to find figures for the number of employed people but i am coming up with nothing.

sir82: Thanks. It is very interesting information about the reductions 8-9 years ago.
It does make sense in a way. How many people are *really* required for producing the litterature?
I am becoming more and more convinced it might make sense to create some sort of WT-timeline wikipedia which track key stats and events in the WT history for instance sorted as: doctrinal changes, printing statistics and reduction in staff.
