  The best book on biblical archaeology I've ever read

  i'm referring to "the bible unearthed : archaeology's new vision of ancient isreal and the origin of its sacred texts" by israel finkelstein and neil asher silberman.

  i think it should be required reading for anyone who deigns to defend the historicity and literal interpretation of the bible.

  (i'm looking at you singlecell).

  This is an excellent book; really a bit of a archeological page-turner. I would recommend this for anyone who is interested in how well archeology supports the pre-babylonian OT narrative.

  ever since mitt romney turned the spotlight on the lds church a growing tsunami of disaffection has been accelerated and brought to a head.. the lds core faithful members are leaving in increasing numbers such that growth has not simply stagnated in the west but it has actively reversed.

  to their credit the church is responding aggressively but not only is it too late, it is an impossible task.

  you can only paint sh*t so many ways.

  Apghnopos: This is just a fanciful notion that I don't put any faith in, but it would explain how the universe could be created without an increase in complexity, or at least a significant one.

  I don't see why an explanation for the universe which asssumes production of complexity at some point should be disfavored. Like i wrote above, we know the complexity of everything increase all the time (second law of thermodynamics) and one of the great problem in cosmology right now is to explain why the (very) early universe had such a low complexity and thereby why the universe has such a low complexity to this day. This is all ofcourse assume complexity means what it does in physics and i am not sure this is the case.
