The Voyager 1 space probe was sent out in 1977 to explore our solar system. As it left our system Feb 14, 1990, the spacecraft was ordered by NASA to turn around and take a photograph of the planet Earth, some 6 billion kms away. The "Pale Blue Dot" image is now over 25 years old. The image is a dot... not a line. The Earth is NOT flat.

The JW religion has just cost me my marriage & my family life
by jambon1 inafter leaving the organisation 10 years ago i fought with everything i had to stay in my marriage and with my three children.
after a tumultuous number of years trying to maintain a happy family life while living in a divided home, it's finally over.
the religion is single handedly responsible for destroying my marriage and my family.

It's incredibly sad.
Ending of a marriage is one of the highest stressors anyone can experience. The effects are very similar to suffering from the death of a loved one.
And I agree with GT... you were, are, and still can be a great Dad.

If everyone stopped contributing to the Watchtower World Wide Pedophile Defense Fund, the Borg may actually go broke.
Thanks for doing your part HMTM.

jambon, I am very sorry about this. It is disgusting.
Well done the JW religion! You have accomplished the division that your holy book brags about.
This is 100% accurate. Anyone who doesn't agree, check out Matthew 10:35.

Yeah... and I've got a prime hunk of Florida (swamp) land available for sale.
Check out Eratosthenes of Cyrene. Using a very simple technique, he figured out that the Earth's surface was curved. He is one of my heroes. :0)

Attention JW lurkers: May JW TV broadcast demonstrates the GB's utter contempt for you (and all non-elite JWs)
by sir82 inin may's "we will never solicit for money, but now we're going to solicit you for the next hour" broadcast, we kept hearing about all the "facts" that the gb would like for us to know.. hmm...what facts did they leave out?.
-- $millions have been spent in out-of-court settlements of child abuse cases.
-- $untold amounts are being spent on legal defense of wt policies related to child abuse.

sir82, this is exactly what struck me from the video.

If They Stopped Shunning Tomorrow?
by cofty inimagine that the cult decided to stop shunning family members on the proviso that the dfd person was not actively trying to attack the cult.. (please don't debate whether or not this is likely - it's hypothetical).
how would you respond to your family?.
personally i think i would be less than cooperative.

KateWild said: A better question would be would you welcome with open arms a family member who had shunned you if they had just learned TTATT?
If that family member apologized to me and wanted an open dialogue about TTATT then yes I would welcome them. If they wanted to try to control me, then no, I would not.

Rumor about the Imitate Jesus Convention
by FusionTheism ini saw a rumor a few weeks ago on reddit that the new imitate jesus convention is supposed to present new light and clarified understandings on the disfellowshipping/disassociation practices.. supposedly, if this rumor has any truth to it, there will be a talk given at the convention about how we should not be strict like the pharisees in how we shun people, loosening up some of the jw rules about this practice.. has anyone here heard anything about this or have more info on it?.

About this 'imitating Jesus' idea....
I am completely uninterested in this. The guy is dead! I am not ready to be dead just yet.

IF they changed their policy and IF your family wanted to be your friend again how would you react?
I would be cautiously optimistic. In reality, my life is very, very busy without them. I have more than enough family and friends I am in contact with regularly that, luckily, not having the JW family in my life (with the exception of my parents) hasn't affected me much, if at all.
The JWs is my family are on my Mom's side. They have next to nothing to do with me except when necessary family business forces them to. They are overall nice people but are mislead.
My parents became mean-spirited, self-righteous, holier-than-thou a-holes with us kids in their zealous days (this was during the 1990s). They did not shun us outright but they did withdraw somewhat during that period. Luckily, none of us kids ever got baptized.
The JW belief that they are "God's Chosen'', which elevates them above everyone else, would probably surface repeatedly with my other JW family members as it used to with my parents. I would not be able to tolerate that.
