  so i joined very recently and began posting and commenting without a formal intro.

  been reading for a while, decided it was time to jump in.

  mentally i am completely cleansed of this thing, but still have to maintain a minimal involvement for spouse and family.

  Still with a free mind able to rationalize, question, and just think in general, sitting through a meeting is agony.

  I have to say, this hasn't changed for me. Every time I have to set foot in a KH I get the heebie-jeebies, especially  the Shelburne, ON KH. The possibility of seeing Gower Palmer (local pedophile) makes me want to hurl. I believe I've had my last visit to that KH as my father is no longer in that area (what a relief). But as family begins to die off, there are funerals that have to be attended at various other KH's in the province... sigh.

  American Sniper - courage or cowardice?

  the movie american sniper is breaking box office records and of course there is some irony that a movie about a sniper is released on martin luther king day (who was shot by one).. but of course there is a world of difference between an assassin and a military sniper ... or is there?.

  some are making a big stink about it and claiming that "snipers are cowards".

  it seems unfair to me.

  I think anyone criticizing snipers needs to walk a mile in their shoes. I suspect they would stfu afterwards.

  being that this is not "ex jws" and in fact, more driven by atheists talking a bunch of crap, im not even going to address you people like you know anything about jws because you dont.

  nor am i going to assume you know the bible because none of you do.. and yes, im speaking down at you all because you men have actually went out your way to make a site to speak down at an entire group of people.

  yet i bet you cant even handle a single uswer talking down at you, like you talk down about jws can you?.

  EVERYONE knows ONLY GRILLED CHEESE is the only appropriate sandwich with which to accompany tomato soup.😡

  MissFit, oh yeah!  Of course, I don't always have tomato soup on hand so I substitute ketchup. I have to dip my grilled cheese sandwich into it... so yummy!
  

  I have discovered such food combinations as:

  - Raw walnuts with baby carrots.

  - Date rolls coated in coconut with pecans.

  - President's Choice Chocolate Greek Yogurt with Light Whipped Cream (from the can of course).

  A few years ago, a nurse came to my Dad's home to conduct some cognitive tests on my Dad (MoCA,Trail Making Test, and MMSE). At that time he was 83 years old, had been a JW for over 25 years, and had been retired for some time (he took early retirement at age 55). He was definitely exhibiting signs of depression as well as dementia.

  The nurse told me that they are finding common risk factors amongst people who suffer from dementia/alzheimers. She listed these for me:

  - Lack of post secondary school education

  - Chronic Depression

  - Long term substance abuse including smoking
  

  - Poor lifestyle habits such as bad diet and poor physical activity

  From the Alzheimer's Society website ( http://www.alzheimer.ca/en/About-dementia/Alzheimer-s-disease/Risk-factors ), they list:

  A healthy lifestyle can help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. It has been estimated that up to half the cases of Alzheimer’s disease worldwide may be the result of seven key modifiable risk factors: diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, smoking, depression, cognitive inactivity or low education, and physical inactivity.
  
  What can I do to maintain or improve my brain health?
  
  • Be physically active
  • Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption
  • Track your numbers: keep your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and weight within recommended ranges
  • Stay connected socially and interact regularly with others
  • Make healthy food choices, eat a well-balanced and healthy diet rich in cereals, fish, legumes and vegetables
  • Reduce stress
  • Challenge your brain by trying something new, playing games or learning a new language
  • Protect your head by wearing a helmet when you engage in sporting activities
  

  Of course there is a genetic link as well (and a test one can take to see if one has the genetic marker) but  there are several risk factors that JWs would be prone to. I have/had at least 3 JW family members who suffer(ed) from mental illness.There may be more family members but I don't know as they don't have much to do with me.

  i don't know why, but i put off getting a haircut way longer than i should.. i might go as long as 5 or 6 months between haircuts.. i desperately need a haircut.. what do you desperately need, but you've been putting it off?.

  What I Saw & Heard in the Oral Argument Hearing on January 14, 2015

  im not an attorney and i could not record the hearing, so please forgive me if i make mistakes in relating what i remember of the oral argument hearing for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society on january 14, 2015 and the length of this post.. i arrived at the civic center/union plaza in san francisco, ca about 7:30. the area is very nice with a few homeless people sleeping in the park across from the courthouse.

  it took me about 10 minutes to find the clerks office for the court on the first floor, which opened at 8:00.. once the clerks office opened, the two clerks who i talked with were very polite and helpful.

  the arguments for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society were scheduled 5th out of (i think) 8. while i was in the office a cameraman and another person for nbc arrived asking about the hearing for candace contis case.. the courtroom for the 1st appellate court is on the 4th floor and takes up most of that floor.

  Outside of every single publication the Watchtower puts out, wouldn't the elder's handbook "Shepherd The Flock" be something that could be used as evidence to show the 'special relationship' between elders, congregations and 'mother' aka The Watchtower? Does this book list the Watchtower as the publisher?

  well, i have been lurking on this site for several months and i recently decided to join as a member.

  i have made several observations and would like to make a few comments.. first, i am perplexed by the attitude of many on this site that are either former or active (but apostate) jws.

  they seem to have a strong hatred for the wts and also for rank and file jws.
