  Why is it wrong for Christians to celebrate Christmas?

  this was inspired by terry's thread.... it is something that raises many questions about the jw belief system.. .

  for one thing - the bible certainly explains all the details of the christ birth.

  it certainly does not tell people to avoid celebrating it with feasts, customs, etc.

  I was given a couple of reasons.

  One was the general birthdays excuses: 'we don't put people on pedestals' and because of John the Baptist getting beheaded.

  The other was the whole disgust with the pagans' Yule celebration and the supposed sexual practice of straddling the Yule log.

  If you don't tow their line, you'll be judged and punished, very possibly for all eternity. To appease God something must be sacrificed, the bloodier the better.

  my husband and i have been out of the org for quite some time, but still find that old ideas and values come up and bite us on the ass.. lately, i've been plagued by an increase in the frequency and severity of my nightmares (which have always been an issue,) so i've begun to dream journal.

  in just a few days, this realization cropped up.

  i can't save people.. i've been blogging again recently.

  They said yesterday at the CA," Noah was a success even though he only saved 8 people." WHY??? He did what GOD said to do. So, what does GOD tell us to do? Just hang tight and the GB/SLAVE will tell you what "GOD" wants you to do.

  a science stopper is " a hypothesis that makes no testable or useful predictions and therefore prevents any science from being performed based on that hypothesis.

  " a common example of this would be the claim that god(s) created our universe.

  having no way of telling "created" universes apart from "non-created" universes prevents the claim from ever being verified or from being debunked.

  Just when you think you're past it all...

  you"re now the "unbelieving mate" who is now pursuing your degree just before your mid-life crisis hits because until you woke up to the tatt, you bought into the whole "you'll never grow older in this system of things...".

  you're watching your parents grow old fully-invested.... your spouse still invested because "there is no better alternative....".

  your in-laws still won't come over tomorrow (thanksgiviing day) to eat turkey because it might just look like.... just when you think you're past it all and you feel that little bit of jw that is still there at your core eventhough you think you're beyond jwism..... and you remember and empathize and love your loved ones just a little bit more... because as of yet, they cannot find it in them to distance themselves from somethign you found limiting, closing, dark, and oppressive.. may they all find their freedom one day.

  i have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.

  theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .

  we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.

  long story short i was raised in this cult (but was never baptized) my mother is die hard jdub, i didnt take this "faith" seriously until i was 26, but i had always gone to meeting, was enrolled in the theocratic school and was mediocre in service.

  at 26 i made the conscious decision to make this religion my own.

  i red the bible cover to cover and used cross reference from the watchtower and other religious sites,with the end goal to get baptized.

  Time for the Apostate Army to create a counter document. I don't have time right now to do the whole thing but I'll start with:

  1) The name 'Jehovah' is unpronouncable in Hebrew.

  2) Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT preaching to all the inhabitted Earth. The mathematics on this alone does not support this hypothesis. 7 million JWs in no way, shape, or form can preach to 7 billion, and growing, Earth inhabittants. Also, there are ongoing discoveries of indigenous tribes of peoples no one ever knew existed before (eg: Amazon rain forest tribes discovered in 2008 and 2011). I guarantee you JWs are NOT preaching to these people.

  3) Jehovah's Witnesses are not expelling from their organization known child sex offenders. I personally know of 1 such person who is still a JW and sexually abused his daughter. We could list a number of known offenders still in good standing.
