What's the JW reaction to new 16 page mags????

if you've been to the meeting when the letter was read, what was jw reaction????

just curious if it was just another sign that the end is nearer or did any wake up for a second to realize the corporation is downsizing due to costs..

Not surprising to see that general witnesses simply accepted the cut backs and claimed progress. I thought there would be at least some that would wonder about the wts finances since mags are being chopped in half.

Now that wts is praising internet for their success at their web site, they will have to have more talks discouraging internet preaching because you know, apostates are everywhere and that's not what Jesus wants...

WTS is full of irony but there is no way in hell wts will ever encourage forum preaching for jws, unless their plan is to downsize people and sell more property so they can re-invest funds in better investments with less liability.

apologies if this has been discussed before, but i am really very interested in finding out why members here left their congregations for lives away from jw?.

was there a "lightbulb" moment where you just woke up one day and realised that you had been brainwashed?

or a slow realisation over time?

Russell's book, Thy Kingdom Come!!! After reading it, I knew that JWs never told me what Russell really believed and taught and I was conned. Within a very short period of time, I stopped all meetings and began doing research which obviously made me leave the cult. Truth truly sets one free.

the more i'm reading and thinking about what i have previously learned it just opens a whold new can of worms.. my husband and i have been reading/comparing the nwt, diaglot, reference bible, etc.

and i saw where the society added words, changed meaning, even added an entire sentence without ().

i have seen where they have emphasized sayings in the watchtower that are not in the bible like "paradise earth".

Waking up to the reality is very tough. Many here have gone through what you're going through. I know I did. We believed in god where we would live forever on paradise and all that. But that was a lie to begin with. At this point it's hard to say where your journey will take you, because when you examine the bible itself to many of us here it turned out to be a book full of myths and fiction. But some still keep their faith in god.

My advise is, examine the bible with an open mind. Renew your relationship with your df sister, apologize to her is a good start. Find real friends and not conditional friends because the jws that you know, you will lose at some point during your journey.

The temporary life is most likely the real life you have so make the best of it. Look at the history of humankind, billions died before us and we haven't heard a sound from them since, so there is a good chance that is what our end will be. Reality is tough and I suppose somewhat sad when compared to a fairy tale that we were led to believe but we can make our lives enjoyable and real.

The things you imagined you would do in the new system, see if you can do them now while you're alive.

Why the Memorial Is Held on the Wrong Day

tonight on the evening of april 18, 2011, observant jews worldwide will celebrate passover seder, a night "different from all other nights".

the watchtower society annually schedules the memorial for jehovah's witnesses on a date that is supposed to coincide with the jewish observance of passover, as it would have been reckoned during second temple times (in particular, in the first century ad during the life of jesus).

this year the memorial was observed last night, the evening of april 17. the two religious observances are thus a day out of synth, at least this year.

You may have been forced to invite her, but she has no obligation to go. Tell her that she shouldn't come but you had to invite her for the sake of your parents. Tell her that if she goes she will be love bombed once she enters the cult hall and everyone will be friendly with her because they will try to get her to study, which she shouldn't do under any circumstances.

You can also tell your parents that she's happy with her own faith and wouldn't want to disobey Jesus by entering another religious building - they should understand

Feeling a little weird today

hello everybody, so i've been out of the wt for almost a year now.

i did go to the memorial last year, but that was pretty much the last meeting i attended.

thing is, as a born-in, i have never missed one, this will be the first.. don't get me wrong, i have absolutely no desire to go back, but after all these years there's a weird feeling about it.

If you go, partake and get that anointed number north of 12,000 this year. Otherwise, stay home and enjoy a cold one doing something you enjoy. In fact anything is better than going to the KH to listen to BS.

How do you Spell Disfellowshipped?

the reason i ask, is that if you search the wt publications, you will see that it is spelled with only one "p" over 600 times, but also spelled with two "p"s 600 times.. .

very confusing!

any linguistic experts out there that know which it should be?.

There was a new light from Jehovah regarding the spelling and that's why you have one "p" in older publications and two "pp" in the newer publications.

WTS publications never have any spelling mistakes and are one of the most trustworthy magazines out there - so I heard.

What should I do?

it was announced a few days ago that a good friend of mine from another congregation was disfellowshiped...we knew each other for a few years, really appreciated her company, had a great sense of humor...someone you could talk to and confide in.. i'm still shocked to hear that she was df, she was a pioneer up to january...i'm very familiar with her congregation as i've visited there...we often text and exchange emails quite often.. .

she's not aware that i know of her being d/f...i don't know if she still goes to her to khall and feel really bad for her because after reading some of the stories online of what being d/f can do, i wouldn't want her to go thru that?.

i'd love to contact her and tell her not to worry and perhaps relate some of the experiences from this site along with some of the info i'm finding out...but i don't know if she's going to give in to the fear of being shunned and then tell the elders that i'm an apostate?.

If she tells you that she's df, implying you shouldn't be talking to her. Tell her that true friends aren't conditional as to their stand in their religion or what they choose to belief. Reassure her that she hasn't done anything to you for you to shun her.

Be careful not to say anything about wts unless she was df for apostasy otherwise she might rat you out to the elders, unfortunately one can never trust believing dubs, df or not.

Is The End of the "Preaching Work" Now In Sight?

there may not be any specific plan to end the "preaching work" but that doesn't mean that things can't evolve into such an outcome.

indeed, i now wonder if such a thing is probable!.

first, if (and it's a very big if) various nations develop case law that includes liability for volunteers, this will put the watchtower in a bind.

Without preaching work, JW would be like any other religion who only donate to upkeep the KH.

Their tipping point was internet and there is no turning it back. Their growth in developed/ing nations mostly from born ins or uneducated who won't examine the internet prior to agreeing to study with witnesses. Third world countries where people just don't have the money that wts wants, which may very well be wts put an end to missionaries because the west was supporting t he poor nations rather than the money flowing into the wts' pockets.

As someone said, preaching work and meetings keeps witnesses busy, busy enough so they don't find too much time to enjoy the real life or make friends in the world. It keeps them busy enough so they don't discover the truth about the wts.
