Pedophiles in your congregation??
by ziddina ini'm listening to the "six screens of the watchtower" broadcast from october 25, 2008 [yeah, i know, i'm waaay behind...], discussing pedophilia... that broadcast caused me to look up the current status of 'pedophilia notification' in the u.s.a..... rebel8 posted a link sometime back that gave locations of pedophiles in one's (u.s.a.) neighborhood... that portion of the link is, unfortunately, not working right now.... i decided to check out my [old] site, http://www.nsopw.gov/core/offendersearchcriteria.aspx to see if it still functioned the same way.... again, unfortunately, that site is also no longer giving out maps of one's area.... but, as pointed out in rebel8's posted link, pedophiles tend to move around.
this was also mentioned in the six screens broadcast by a lady named "lilly".... the new versions of both sites simply allow one to input the name of someone suspected to be a pedophile... not as effective, imo, but perhaps the cost of updating the maps due to pedophiles' high mobility became prohibitive.. so, here's my suggestion... using the 'name' search function, check out every name in .
your congregation, starting with the elders!!!.

the elders in my congregation are mostly cool. There's always one who has to be "the best one" by taking the highest moral position in any group, right? But I keep as much distance from the Nazis as possible. But it's true that any innuendo about ANYBODY'S past possibly having some taint in it regarding sex will destry that person, especially a brother, in the congregation. I just think things have gotten a little hysterical and unreasonable.
Of course, I don't want my kids alone with anybody of questionable moral standing, either, but I will just have to be careful, right?

there seems to be a rush to judgement here. Not all sex offenders are pedophiles. Actually, some of them may simply be some poor slob who drank some beer and then chose the wrong place to urinate, only to find himself on the sex-offender look-up for indecent exposure. Everybody enjoys a little self-righteousness, it seems, even apostates....

did any body have calls and studies pinched off them
by RosePetal inover the years my hubby and i would auxilliary pionneer and start studies and develope calls that would take magazines regularly and invite us in.
as hubby wasn't a ministerial servant at the time elders ministerial servants and reg pioneers felt they were more worthy to have the studies and calls and would find a way to take them from us.
one ministerial servant told our study who started attending meetings that he should be taking their study and succeeded in taking it over..

my poor daughter had that happen with a study that she developed when she was pioneering. An older sister took it over like she was in charge. We tried to explain to our daughter that the "sheep" belong to Jehovah, not us. But when the one who steals the study isn't on the same page it really sucks! Robbed my poor little daughter's joy like a stinking thief! And, to compound her misery, the elders were supportive of the older sister who did that.

prayer before eating
by stillin ini mentioned to an elder/friend the other day that it occurred to me that there really doesan't seem to be any scriptural precedent or mandate for the tradition of praying before we eat.
i said that jesus blessed the loaves and fishes when he performed that miracle, and he blessed the wine and bread at the last supper, but i couldn't think of any other example of it.
i also suggested that the tradition of praying before eating was probably rooted in giving thanks to the various gods of nature and the perception og god as being involved in the outcome of the harvest, and that, by that way of looking at it, we probably shouldn't pray before eating....silence..

I'm stillin, but I feel certain that my wife will have something to do with putting me out of my misery. She likes to explode every now and then and every little thing that bothers her gets "blown up" too. Since the elders are so gung-ho about fault-finding, I will probably be written off as a "proud man" who doesn't accept counsel and therefore must be disfellowshipped, when in reality, I feel that I'm just a gnat being strained out while observing the camel being gulped down!
I surely mean no harm to any of the witnesses, and if they are edified by the religion, fine. But I no longer am. Too bad they make it such an all-or-nothing thing. I think Jesus and I would have gotten along fine with each other.

inbetween, I agree that an attitude of gratitude is a good thing. It's just the rule of thumb that the FDS has that "if there are pagan roots, root it out" that bothers me. I'm thankful for being made with the capacity to ENJOY a meal, or anything else that's enjoyable. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if the tradition of praying before meals was not at all rooted in either the ancient Isrealite culture or the first century christian culture, but rather, that evil Christendom, or worse, paganism!

I've often gotten my jollies by asking my wife to represent us in prayer when we have a houseful of guests, especially if one is an elder or, better yet, a circuit overseer!

well, the whole ban on "toasting" the newlyweds (or whatever) being, as we know, rooted in the invoking of pagan gods, therefore we (remember, I'm stillin...) avoid anything that pagans may have done. The thing stinks! I mean, the pagans breathed, too, right? Speaking of breathing, I could use a breath of fresh air!
