For some, perhaps it is a good thing... However, there are still many tens of thousands of JW's questioning the organization... This site gives them the opportunity to talk to people who have gone through it, ask questions, get answers, and receive support as they venture out into the world outside of the WTS. I had hoped this site would always be here, so that when/if my JW friend ever sees that the WTS does not have the truth, he would have a safe haven to ask questions, learn more, and begin the recovery process. I think it's a shame... Overwhelmingly, it seems that people have been helped through this forum, and there is still the potential for it to help others... Every day someone is questioning the "borg", everyday someone new finds this site and sees they are not alone in the world.

The power of words.
by Anti-Christ inall of us here know the power of words.
i think that today we use a lot of words that prevent our society from evolving.
our language is loaded with labels that prevents us from seeing certain realities.

Isn't it human nature to apply labels to things? Humans have a need to organize, categorize etc., it fulfills a human need... We feel like we are surrounded by chaos if we cannot identify things, and that causes discomfort... Not saying it is good, bad or otherwise, just making an observation...

Do You Clearly Understand That "The Truth" Is Nothing But Bullcrap?
by minimus inwhat a waste of living being "in the truth" was!
sometimes i see persons suggesting that the witness religion isn't all so wrong.
actually they suggest that they themselves are the issue.

All of us are hypocrites in our own way, there is not a person living who has not engaged in some act of hypocrisy in his or her life... "Judge not, that ye be not judged"... Whether you believe in God, the Bible or otherwise, it is still a profound snippet of wisdom.
What I have observed about former and current JW's is that you are all incredibly passionate... At one time you were passionate about your belief in the WTS, and now you are equally passionate in your condemnation of the same group. Just remember there are a lot of people lurking here who are on the fence, don't let your passions scare them away
Just my two cents worth...

Rank & File Unfamiliar with WTS former NGO Status?
by megs inso, my pioneer lady sent me an e-mail with the following sentence:.
you had asked about the un.
we have never belonged to that organization and never will.

Question! Is research of outside sources specifically prohibited or just strongly discouraged? (aka you are indoctrinated to avoid any non-WT literature)

I haven't quite figured out this lady... I think perhaps she is suffering from cognitive dissonance... She has already responded to my email, mentioned nothing about the UN, and said she looks forward to hearing from me when I get back (I'm going away for the weekend)...

Just to clarify... I clearly stated that the WTS was an NGO of the UN, I restated that in my response to her. What is interesting is that I stated this to her nearly two months ago... It must have put a seed in her mind as this is the only thing she has responded to me about.

So, my pioneer lady sent me an e-mail with the following sentence:
You had asked about the UN. We have never belonged to that organization and never will. What was your source of information?
Being the good little doobie I am, I provided her with a link to the Guardian story, as well as the letter from the JW Info Dept in London, the letter sent out by the UN, the letter sent out by the WTS to the elders and a copy of the e-mail sent to the head librarian at Dag Hammarskjöld .
Have they really not told the rank and file about the association? She's a long-time JW, I had assumed she would have known about this! It is also interesting that of all the points I raised, this one is a sticking point for her. At a book study I went to with her, she was vehement about the UN being the whore of Babylon, I wonder if this will lead her to question?

Attention Book Lovers!!!!!!!
by whyamihere inok, i am on my 8th book this month - not too bad for this mommy.
anyway, i've gotten back to my previous life of indulging myself into books that you can't put down.
little children by tom perrotta.. excellently portrayed 2 unhappily married suburbans who's repetitive wrong choices impact a their dull lives, yet alter your own moral thinking of them being heroic in their quest to find happiness with a self imprisoned/trapped marriage they each lead.

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I really enjoyed her writing!
In a coming-of-age story for thirtysomethings, Gilbert leaves behind an excruciating divorce, tumultuous affair, and debilitating depression as she sets off on a yearlong quest to bridge the gulf between body, mind, and spirit. Part self-deprecating tour guide, part wry, witty chronicler, Gilbert relates this chapter of her life with a compelling, richly detailed narrative that eschews the easy answers of New Age rhetoric.
