It sounds like the goldfish lived, so I think it's sweet, I am admittedly a sucker for stories like this...

Wet Pants...Great story from my hardline wife? No JW references? bmfm!
by kzjw incheck this out.... wet pants.
come with me to a third grade classroom..... there is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and all of a sudden, there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants are wet.
he thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened.

How did God do it?
by nicolaou inevolutionists are always called on to explain how a complicated organ like an eye could have come about "by chance" - as if any scientist ever claimed that's what happened.
but there are shelves of books in your library that will explain the process of natural selection, some are written so simply that a child can grasp the basic concept.
you don't have to accept it but at least an explanation is offered.

Do You Believe It's Possible We Might Be In "The Time Of The End"?
by minimus inmany religions other than jws believe we are at the "end times".
some individuals believe the earth will really be destroyed either by means of god or man in this century.. what's your take?.

Oddly enough, this is something that attracted me to my local KH... I think that human beings are desecrating the planet and unless people start radically changing their lifestyles, we're going to destroy ourselves... I don't think it'll happen in my lifetime, but I think that in 100 years life as we know if will be radically different... I could be wrong though

This topic hurts my head to think about! So there COULD potentially be a creator, like some master computer programmer somewhere that designed all of this madness. However that begets the question of where did the creator come from! That entity must've started somewhere... Achhhh, I can not think about this, it is too big for my wee brain to comprehend...

Do JWs need the BoE as substitute father-figures??
by navytownroger inwhat in the world really attracts new people to the jws??
most new ones don't know or understand the complicated theology, so i doubt it's that.
is it the love-bombing & friendliness?

I was attracted to the whole idea of ready-made friends, I liked the idea of studying the bible, and when I went into the KH I thought everyone was SO nice!!! Then I learned that there was one or two catches involved... Like giving up all of my current friends, preaching the end of the world was "very near", not reading any of the organization's history, believing that the UN was the harbinger of Armageddon, condemning my post-secondary education etc etc etc... Oh, and I learned that the people at the KH were actually "love bombing" me, that kinda freaked me out too...
I started going to meetings at a vulnerable time... I'd been having a bad year, things were going poorly, and then my old JW friend turned up... I obviously wasn't thinking straight because my thought process was that God must've had a hand in this, bringing my JW friend back to me so that I could "Find God"... Ughh, I can be a real doorknob sometimes... For a moment, it seemed like I could actually have a bit of happiness in my life, and maybe I could have a chance to start-over... new life, new guy, find God... Again... Ughh...

I have a question (I'm new)
by kaykay inthis is my first post so let me start out by saying hi haha.
i'm not a jehovah's witness and neither is anyone in my family.
my daughter is dating a born in though and there are obviously problems because of it.

Hi kaykay, I feel for you daughter, and I've been in her situation... If he's born-in, he's been indoctrinated from childhood... Ultimately, he will be asked to choose between God and your daughter. It's a sorry state of affairs, but us "worldly" folks are not considered to be good enough for JW's, and the odds are not in her favour. Whatever you do, don't allow your daughter to join the JW's, it can be an attractive proposition if you're in love with someone, and unless he's not a strong JW, that would be the only way the relationship would have any chance of working. You haven't said... Is his father and family JW's? Has he been baptised? Encourage your daughter to read this site. To be fair, I should say that there ARE situations of JW's marrying worldly people, but there is a lot of conflict as many here will tell you...
Also, there are some pretty strict rules for dating in Dub world... Chaperoned (even if you're wellllll into adulthood), and more importantly, you don't date unless you're thinking you might marry the person, casual dating is a big no-no!

psychology conditioning of a cult member?
by ZeroZen inwhat do you think of the psychology conditioning of a cult member?
how is religious addiction, spiritual abuse different from a drug problem?
if the person was dealing with a drug problem eating disorder, ptsd, emotional problem etc.
-

ZeroZen, like a drug-addict, many do not see it as a "problem". My friend's nephew is a serious drug addict, but tells everyone that they "just don't get it", it's the same with a cult... The outsider does not "understand" the "truth" like they do. And truly, if you point out things, that may just push them in deeper and they become more fervent in their devotion.

Apostate Talk
by Wordly Andre inwhy is it that jw's are so afraid to talk to anyone who questions the beliefs, or in general says anything bad about the org.
case in point here i have a friend his family are all jw's not the best of the crowd but they are trying, anyway his brother and i were talking and i was telling him about how some of my cousins have left the org, and even showed him a funny picture of all of us wearing jehovah's witness protection program t-shirts there were about 7 of us in the photo.
he ended the converstation very rapidly and left.. i was not really telling him anything that bad, and i was just mostly joking with him, honestly i didn't think he was all that much of a jw, before he got married he lived with his gf, i have heard he likes to party, and for the most part you'd swear he wasn't a jw, not even baptized.

OH YES!!! My friend (former) is in IT, which is such a freakin' logical line of work, yet he's a staunch JW... So he turns his brain on when he gets to work, then turns it off again when he gets home... Cognitive Dissidence to the max. I tried to be logical about the WT and the whole NGO/UN thing and he went into shutdown mode and restarted his brain at an earlier point in time...

by Terry inin 1975 the watchtower society woke up and they weren't in paradise.. they turned over and pulled the sheets down to see what lay beside them in that cheap motel room called the day after.. they had said all the right words.
they made all the right moves.
they had made their bed and now they were lying in it.
