hello - first may i apologise for capital letters my keyboard has gone screwy.
for the last several months i have been having meetings with two really nice women from the jw organisation.
i don't want to offend anyone by asking these questions i am simply trying to better understand how the watchtower came about without listening to too much anti stuff.
Wow, Great thread! I'm sorry I got here so late.
I can't help but realize when the "lights went on" for me concerning the JW religion.
I was researching a public talk concerning prophecy very thoroughly, using secular references. It was then I concluded there was some holes in their beliefs I was no longer willing to accept. What I find so telling are the amount of posters who had similar conclusions after a deep study of the scriptures, whether it be for Gilead, Pioneer School, MS School or personal study, which caused them to alter their views of this religion.
Keeping with the point of this thread, it is remarkable, though unsurprising, that an average JW is ill equiped for such a disussion with a "bible study". The reality is that if more publishers could answer these questions, serious damage could be done to their faith.
This being said, If Janey conitinues with this line of questioning, not that it is inappropriate, I can assure you that there will be "red flags" raised concerning where she is getting her information and who she has been communicating with. It is a little disturbing because she is asking questions that should be asked by any JW who is serious about their studies.
I will abstain from inserting any wise a** coments or negative opinions because I am very much enjoying the analytical thinking some have displayed on this thread and hope that common sense will prevail for certain ones.
Yup! I'ts post #666!
Didn't want to waste it on something random.
it started with the comparison of "porneia" (all sexual practices outside of marriage) being a ploy of satan, as a "lure" that a fisherman uses to catch "fish.
" all kinds of comments were made regarding internet porn, adultery, oral sex, etc, all being a device designed to trap jehovah's people, resulting in thier spiritual demise.
i still have commenting priveleges, so i felt it necessary to mention live bait also having a "hook.
My Wife and three young kids were there!
She told me about this and I blew a gasket. Her response is that they will hear this at school ( my oldest is 9)
. This religion is so f*d up.
I can't wait until my kids leave (and they will, they all do).
Cult! Cult! Cult!
Sorry, but this just stuck a nerve.

I would like to add... Good luck with your studies! heheheh
will there be an announcment on the world news saying " a great tribulation has begun in the world" or will the gb send a letter to all the kh's to scare the piss out of everybody saying "we the gb being gods chosen channel of communication have decided that the world's situation seems dire and are pleased to tell you that the great tribulation has started!".
obviously the world has been in a great tribulation since the time of jesus.
great tribulation does not mean some event that has to happen all at once all of a sudden.
I didn't start in 1975?
hey,.
this is my first post on this forum after months of reading and lurking on here.
i'm glad to be able to say that my husband and i finally sent our letter saying we want out and are wait to hear back for a potential jc meeting--that we won't be attending.. we had so many doubts it was impossible for us to continue living the lie.
Great to have you here pmgirl!
the bottom line for them it seems is to keep their superiors happy (i.e., the co).
so as long as people report time, it makes the elders look good.
do any elders actually care if it's real or not?
I faked all my time in order to become appointed, as my wife was a reg. pioneer. She would often call me out.
But as long as I was on the road to a position, she didn't care.
i have been following a number of threads here periodically and have decided to join so as to contribute.
i was wondering if any of you would have any idea as to the value of the book mentioned in the title of this thread "pay attention to yourselves and to all the flock," the elusive elders manual.
you see, my grandfather died recently and, unbeknownst to "the others" i managed to obtain said book before anyone else could.
Yknot,
Not that the issue would ever be pressed, but when you step down, they ask for it. Therefore, unless you disappear, you have falsely obtained it.
Does anybody have anything written on this?
always nice to see you "gifts in men" posting here :-) i'm sure newbies / lurkers would like the encouragement of knowing who you are.
i think i know of some of you.. thanks for your replies....
Farkel,
How do you know we don't have a 144,000 ex-elders here?
Hell, they made up a number, can't we?
