This past weekend I lost my mom
by lola28 inthe cancer finally got to her and now my sisters and i are left without our mother.
we take comfort only in knowing that she is no longer in pain.
how do people move on from such a massive loss?.

Lost a parent of my own to cancer recently as well. The disease had been taking its toll for awhile so it didn't sneak up on me and I think that helped me to prepare for the inevitable. "Be with your feelings" is good advice.

Do you type or do you hunt and peck?
by JimmyPage ini was just thinking how thankful i am that i took a typing course in school years ago.
i would think it has to be very difficult posting on a board like this hunting and pecking all the time.
so how fast can you type?

Zen Living Part Eighteen (summarized): Relationships on the Job
by JimmyPage indifferent people are better suited for work in different types of environments: large corporations, small companies, or freelancing.
finding the right environment for you can improve your working relationships.. people tend to assume a lot about their work colleagues.
letting go of your assumptions deflates their power over you.. having a boss means recognizing your feelings about authority and refusing to let them compromise your performance.. being the boss means recognizing your feelings about having authority and refusing to let them compromise your performance.. the key to work, whether alone or in a group, is to focus on the work itself.. .

Something that has helped me understand why people continue to go to church
by JimmyPage inthe more i realized how ridiculous religion as a whole is the more i wondered why so many people even bother to continue going to church.. but someone on this board made a comment recently that has stuck with me- it's something that i could never relate to because i was brought up a jw.
and maybe many people here have trouble relating too for the same reason.. the comment was simple: people go to church because they enjoy it.
it was a new thought to me because as a jw meetings have always been such a bland and boring affair.

My boss is very religious, and I've had trouble relating to that sometimes. But when I look at it from the perspective that maybe she has always gone to an enjoyable church, it helps me look at her in a different light. When I think of taking my kids to a place where they can be with other children and have fun hunting Easter eggs or viewing a live Christmas manger scene it warms my heart a bit- compared to forcing them to sit quietly for two hours while wearing stuffy suits and ties.

The idea that people could actually enjoy meeting together in a religious setting is actually a fairly new thought to me- and maybe to you as well.
And you know what? Churches do a lot of humanitarian good in times of crisis. I've seen it first hand.
I'm not about to dismiss all the bad that churches are responsible for, but looking at things from this perspective- I'm gaining an understanding that I never had as a JW.

How big is a demon?
by Terry inthings which exist are real enough.
we can measure them.
they are just this big and no bigger or smaller.. they are here and not there.. imaginary things have the luxury of being any size.
-

Demons can be as small as Smurfs or as large as the Na'vi of Avatar. But either way they are always blue.

The next time a JW tries to tell you that natural disasters are a sign of the end...
by JimmyPage in... tell them to check this out:.
from weather.com, the 10 biggest natural disasters, 8 of which occurred before 1914:.
great hurricane of 1780 (barbados, st. lucia, 22,000 dead).

JimmyPage
Exactly. Somehow earthquakes have been stretched to include all natural disasters.

Any sins you got away with?
by fade_away ini was reading a thread on here that got me thinking.. what is the purpose of confession if not another method of mind control?
back in ancient israel, confession was just this thing you did if you were a good jew.
just like observing sabbath, fasting.. you get the point.

Besides the apostate stuff? Gambled. Fornicated. Smoked cigarettes. Smoked weed. Got drunk. Voted. Celebrated birthdays and holidays. Viewed porn. Surely I'm leaving some stuff out... help me out, what else have I probably done? Oh, that's right. Went to a non-JW church.
