  one of my friends on the board said that she downloaded the 1947 awake pdf that "bereanbiblestudent and invetigator 74" posted, and in the first issue on page 26, it said that excommunication or disfellowshipping was a pagan practice.

  that's what my dad has said at various times over many years.

  i think it helps encourage him that the end must be very near and the paradise will be here soon.

  my thought has always been "oh yes it can get a lot worse.

  what a fantastic book!

  i really enjoyed it.

  i loved the way don cameron refused to get bogged down with arguing for an alternative scriptural interpretation to the witnesses.

  I was trying to decide what to read after "Combatting Cult Mind Control". "Crisis of Conscience"? This "Captives of a Concept" really appeals to me, though for some reason I thought the concept it referred to was the 607/587 concept. Apparently though it is the FDS concept, the true heart of JW BS.

  i was browsing another post where wtwizard implied membership in another group, and was asked what it was.

  that got me thinking...since coming out the society, has anyone embraced another organized religion or group, public or secret?

  if so, what is it, and what made you join and continue membership?

My thought has always been "Oh yes it can get a lot worse. Haven't you ever seen 'Blade Runner'? 'Escape from New York/ LA'? Ever read the Frank Miller 'Dark Knight' graphic novel?" My point is that there are a lot of apocalyptic visions of the future out there that make today's world seem tame.

  Cussing, swearing, & flippin' the bird....coping techniques?

  since my strategy for flying under the radar is to put some face time in at meetings, i found it neccessary to develop coping techniques so the top of my skull doesn't fly off from the insanity that is the jws.. profanity is one of my favorites.. if the bullshit factor gets to the point during the meeting where i begin to feel like barfing (happens a lot), i slip off to the ladies loo and lock myself in a stall.

  since no one can see me, i'll sit on the toilet and flip the bird at the ceiling and the cackling jw hens that come into the bathroom.. when the final 'amen' is sounded, i scoop up my purse and books and rocket out the door.

  once in my car and with engine started and radio going, i start cussing.

  Ban The Internet

  the thought occurred to me that if post-secondary education is to be avoided, why would the wts not make a similar stance about the internet?

  all dubs in good standing should burn their books and their computers... really, the internet has great propensity to open people's minds and expose them to different ideas and viewpoints.

  in itself it doesn't promote critical thinking, but it certainly offers fodder for thought and expression.
