Does anybody else feel relieved that they won't be tortured during the great tribulation?
by doublelife ini grew up hearing about different ways people have been tortured in the past and was always scared of going through that during the gt.
it was always an unhealthy obsession of mine.
i always thought that i was more worried about it than other jws and that i would end up renouncing my faith to get out of it.

JW Tall Tales
by lancelink inrecently i was cleaning my bookcase and found an old book that i enjoyed as a child.
it had stories in it such as paul bunyan, pecos bill, and john henry.
while these stories are fictional, i enjoyed them because they were entertaining, and easy to understand.. fast forward to the late 70's when i was a teenager sitting at the ca hall in janesville wisconsin.. the speaker was explaining the great sacrifice god made in sending his son down to earth to die for all mankind.

That was a very interesting read !
Thank you everyone for sharing your stories, experiences, or undocumented rumors.
I find it amazing the variety of fabricated stories JW's have all over the world .'

Who is responsible if a Witness falls on your property while preaching?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inyesterday morning around 10:00 a.m.,my dog was barking non- stop.
i was upstairs and thought maybe a rabbit or bird was in my back yard.
i looked out the back window and found nothing.

I believe that you would be responsible.
I knew a sister that fell and broke her ankle at the door of a really well to do person. her husband was the PO at the time, and I'm quite sure that
he made a return visit to the householder telling him that everything was OK, he did not sue .
Of course that is the "sanitized" version I heard,

Raising Chickens!
by jgnat ini had another great idea the other day; raise chickens!
in this rapidly changing recessionary world, i cast my mind back to stories of the depression.
farmers fared better than urban dwellers.

Recently I was cleaning my bookcase and found an old book that I enjoyed as a child. It had stories in it such as Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, and John Henry. While these stories are fictional, I enjoyed them because they were entertaining, and easy to understand.
Fast forward to the late 70's when I was a teenager sitting at the CA hall in Janesville Wisconsin.
The speaker was explaining the great sacrifice God made in sending his son down to earth to die for all mankind. he used the following example, (or tall tale) to describe it.
"Imagine a train fully loaded with passengers, heading down the track at full speed.(Symbolic of sinful mankind) Unknown to the engineer several miles ahead there is a bridge crossing and it is badly damaged. Right in front of the bridge there is a switching tower and the switchman is fully aware of the problem, and thankfully there is a secondary track that the train can follow and avoid the bridge. As he gets ready to throw the switch he notices that his young son (symbolic of Jesus) is walking on the secondary track. The train is fast approaching so he must decide what is more important, saving the train full of people , or his son. The switchman decides to save the train, and his son gets killed. Yet many of the passengers do not know what a sacrifice the switchman made for them."
Then he talked, and guilted the audience into how we should be doing all we can in the ministry, and reaching out to do more in our own halls. Everyone ohhh'd and ahhhh'd later, but I always thought how God knows everything, why didn't he take care of the loose ends before it happened (broken bridge, and kid on the tracks)
Even now I can develop a small headache thinking about all the far -reaching aspects of this story, and how everyone just lapped it up.
Does anyone have their own example of a JW tall tale ?

Elders Contempt for the Old & Disabled
by LittleSister inas they get older many loyal jws find it hard to get to the meetings due to poor health and disability , my mother falls into this category.
there are also others who are disabled or unable to physically be at meetings from time to time.
for many years our congregation taped the meetings and distributed these tapes so all could enjoy the spiritual food of the meetings.

TroubledMind :
I hear you, and really understand where your coming from, I'm sorry about your experiences
My Dad is going thru the same thing, Mom died 1 1/2 year ago, and the witnesses are interested in just two things.
Get to the meetings, and record your time.
B*****ds !!
