No obligations, no strings attached. I'm in my friendships because I want to be, & vice versa. Actually liking someone makes you want to do certain things, but not with obligations.

Is your family close??...
by Hecklerboy ini was talking to a good friend of mine the other night on the phone and i was telling him about my wife wondering why my family isn't very close.
when we started thinking about it we both decided it was because we grew up jw's.
i would love to be closer to my family, but it just seems we have nothing to talk about.

My dad & 2 sisters are close as can be, although we are in 3 different states now. No one really has anything to do with my inactive jw mother, except me on a sporadic basis. She sort of fostered an atmosphere of unhappiness & war while we were growing up, & now it's all good!
We are all kind of independat as well though, no one is up anyone else's skirt, so to speak. They're all different from one another, & they're all awesome!

Advice/Venting
by Bubbamar inmy mom sent me an email saying that she'd like to slap my sister silly for the way she(sister) has treated her (mom) all these years.. my sister was never baptised and successfully did the fade by moving to another state - so my mom can have whatever type of relationship she wants with her - based on jw dogma.
but my sister can't stand our mom -- basically because she's crazy, mistreated us, and shuns me -- and my sister won't speak to her.
my mom has never met my sister's kids because of the whole thing.

P.S. Bubbamar,
Stay calm & matter of fact, otherwise you will become a fulfillment of witchtower "prophecy". Bitter, mean apostate, blablabla. the rest of you are also too good to keep going back for more abuse.

Bravo Miss Pink!
This saves kids a whole lotta trouble & the ultimate dumping when Grandma Witchtower figures out the kid has been taught critical thinking & wants nothing to do with it all.

What is your favorite silent film, and why?
by avishai ini really think silent film is a lost art that is still somewhat valid.

I get great satisfaction from reading, for instance, how a non-JW partner coaxed their significant other out of the clutches of the WTBTS. Or the girl dating a JW who is wondering why she hasn't been introduced to his family yet. Or the teenager who is wondering if they can make it on their own when they turn eighteen. I like to think I had something to do with that. One at a time, I am content to make a difference.
Brilliant answer.
Once a person is on their way to healing, they can only whine so much, they can only rail against the watchtower so much. Then it becomes about encouraging other people & living the best life you can. You never know, there might be that one person reading that you could make a difference to, or set an example for.

I went to the memorial service for Talia Balletti.
by hubert ini sent a pm to one of the forum assistants telling him this, and he said i should post and let everyone know how it went.. i didn't want to do this until mario posted first, because it's about his daughter, not mine.
but, i know all you wonderful people out there are waiting for some news on the memorial service, and i think mario is too grief stricken to be able to write right now.
sometimes these things hit you harder after it's all over, because now you have more time to think about it.

Another Elder Called My Mom To Find Out About Us.....
by minimus inhe called for her "time" and then began asking questions.
he wanted to know where my daughter lived, what her married last name was now, how the family was doing, etc.
he asked her if she thought my not attending anymore had to do with the fact that i had a business and now i'm "materialistic".
