  a question from realist on another thread prompted me to want to ask the board if our members believe in astrology.

  I'm a skeptic at heart so I don't believe in it at all. However, it is not my job to tell others what they should believe and what they should not. I find astrology to be pretty fun and that is it. One of the most common personality flaws of a skeptic and atheist is arrogance. While it is human nature to express your opinion, I think to do it on a consistant basis to try and prove your "superior" intellect is just stupid. By the way, I'm a Virgo.

  It is kind of strange how close my personality fits into the Virgo sign but then that is the point of astrology, be general enough in terms to have it fit with most everyone.

  The Watchtower Plot Against Us

  the watchtower organisation has been guilty of major coverups and blatant lies.. it does not want ex jws telling others what they know.. does it ever occur to you that the watchtower have people who post on this board, gathering information about us?

  they could use it against us at any time....they could keep a record of what we say on our posts and establish who we really are.. e.g.

  people who i hardly ever speak to on this board suddenly seem to know details about me.

  I know we like to go on and on about the WTS and their evil but really they aren't that important. In the scheme of things they are nothing more than a small cult who have ruined plenty of lives. We blow them up into more than what they are because of our personal experiences. The reality is they are just a flash in the pan. Their importance is only measured by how much control we give them.

  Woohoo!! Thanks for the reminder Comforter I had totally forgotten the movie was coming out today. I'll be taking my 17 month old daughter to see this movie. I read the books to her at night before bed. I know she doesn't understand what I'm saying but she loves it when I read to her. Also, I'm 33 and love Harry Potter. The books are excellent and the last movie was superb. The only thing that could make it better is the addition of smurfs. ;)

  I liked the movie allot. It made me jump more than a few times and generally creeped me out. I don't scare easy which leads to allot of movie letdowns.

  a friend of mine recommended i peruse this forum because he is of the impression i would find it rewarding.

  the basis of his recommendation was due to a very long friendship and not due to any association (that i do not have) with jehovahs witnesses.

  he considers me his superior in intellect and wants an appraisal of this sight but to be honest i have neither the incliniation nor the time to get in deep enough to comment.

  Is America better than the rest? No, I won't say better. We just have fought for the freedom to make life as good as we can. Does that excuse past mistakes? No. But, what other country tries to rectify their mistakes as America does?

  If America just sealed all it's borders and allowed no one else in and ousted all the foreign nationals, how much outcry would be raised around the world? You can bet plenty.

  This is the most intelligent thing I've read so far in this thread. I think most people with common sense are not blind to the fact that we have plenty of blood on our hands but it seems that many try to either ignore this or that is all they focus on. You can point out all of our shortcomings but that does not fix anything. The only thing it does is open arguments with nationalists. It's important to talk about these things but I don't think the added rhetoric does anything for the discussion.

  carbon dating

  it seems that either my computer or my wt-cdrom is not working properly, othewise i wouldn't need to post this.....anyway my pioneer mother called here ranting about how a new discovery was made that will ruin the evolution theory as we know it today and she was saying how they used carbon dating - and in her words - "which we as jw's don't believe in, since the dates are very inaccurate".

  i was curious as to whether or not the wts has ever used carbon dating to support any of their theories.....i seem to have it stuck in my head that they have done this several times.

  any help would be appreciated.

  I had a Fundy Christian give a speech in my class on the errors of carbon 14 to justify his belief in a 6,000 year old planet. When asked about Potassium dating he just stared off into space. One thing creationists love is semantics unless you apply it to them. If you even admit that the dating method could be off by more than a second they take it and run.

  Our history is bloody and savage. However, there is not a single nation on this planet with its hands clean. It's nice to be able to point out all of our short comings (and easy) but there are plenty of positive things as well. It is easy to get blinded by nationalism but things could be a hell of alot worse. On a personal note, I don't see this country lasting as long as the Roman empire or any of the other great Empires. That is really too bad because our Democracy is one of the best ideas in human history.
