I think it is human nature and the nature of certain religions to be competetive. After all, when you teach that you are the one true path to God what do you expect. You would probably be amazed at the amount of crap I get from christians because I'm Pagan. The worste part is I try to avoid religous discussion as much as possible but the pentacle I wear is a beakon for christians to preach. Some people just can't seem to get around the fact that I don't believe Jesus performed any miracles and that the Bible is not some holy word of God. Anyway, absolutist religion forces you into the I'm right you're wrong mode of thinking.

Elder removed because of son's mistake...more BS
by LyinEyes inwild turkey ran into an elder he knows in business and the brother didnt know about us d/a ourselves.
which is shocking to me, since there is so much gossip always going on, now i am sure everyone who doesnt know soon will.. anyway, this brother has been an elder for many years, and he told my husband that he was removed because his son, who is a senior in high school was publicly reproved.
i think this is very sad , only because of more of their polices and backward ways of thinking.

I don't quite get the apostle Paul comment either but oh well. I don't get why people even give Paul any consideration when you know that he wasn't even around when Jesus was. He was just a mysogynistic tool.
Hey, LyinEyes! Doesn't it feel good to know that you can view all of this from the outside. I hope everything is going well for you and WildT.

Near Death experiences- the scoop by CNN
by kelsey007 inap) --
a study suggests the oft-reported sensation of leaving the body during a brush with death may have a simple explanation in the body itself.. these "out-of-body" and "near-death" experiences -- in which people resuscitated on the operating table speak of being drawn toward a brilliant light, or looking down on their own bodies -- may be influenced by a portion of the brain misfiring under stress, the study suggests.
the paper describes one patient's visions while she was being evaluated for epilepsy and does not wrestle with issues of the soul.

I have to agree with Trauma on this one. People who are "believers" are often pounced on by skeptics because the things they experience cannot be reproduced in a labratory environment. Yet I often see skeptics jump on the same bandwagon when a study is released confirming what they believe. One person does not make this study in any way reliable. Give me reproducable results from several patients and I'll consider it. As I've already stated, I've had an OBE and this study does not explain several key items involved with it. One of those Yeru already mentioned.

ANYONE JOINED A NEW RELIGION?
by Mary infor those who have left the organization, have any of you gone to another church?
or did being a jw simply turn you off religion altogether.
i feel i would like to still belong to a religious group (that's just in my personality) but of course, i would feel really guilty at first going in to "babylon the great".

I went to various Christian churches for a few years to see what they were about and never really liked any of them. So I decided to study the origins of christianity and the Bible from people in a nuetral position and not. Well my journey of discovery led to dissappointment as I found the origins of both the religion and bible were not as divine as I had been led to believe all my life. So I went the Deist route until my boss told me about Wicca. I wanted to know more and was told I had to do it on my own. After two years of studying Wicca and other religions (he required me to study other religions to make sure I had a clear view) I decided the Pagan path was the way for me. I don't think it is for everyone as there is allot of work involved and discipline but I'm more happy now than I have ever been in my life.

What power would you want???
by LB inimagine you can have some form of super power.
just one.
what would it be??

I always wanted Magneto's power. I'm talking the Magneto from the comic books not the movie as he was much more powerful in print. That way even if some country tried to nuke me I could just use the EMP to make myself more powerful. ;)

Retrograde Evolution
by Derrick inadam and eve started perfect, but lost absolute perfection.
the bible's hebrew scriptures (or old testament) in the book of genesis 5:5 states that almost perfect adam lived over nine centuries until the age of 930. this can be likened to someone who was born during the dark ages in the year 1100 living until old age today, and finally passing away almost 30 years from now.
adam waited until he was age 130 before he and eve had their first child, whom they named seth.

Interesting argument and very well written. Too bad the story of Adam and Eve, and even Noah are just fairy tales. In fact, being your seemingly so educated, you should know that the story of Noah is actually a Babylonian morality tale that was passed down from tribe to tribe before being molded into the Biblical version. However, you do a very nice job trying to get your point across.

Near death experiences, what do they mean?
by sleepy innear death experiences, what do they mean?
anyway there was a resent disscusion of this phenonema on the telly.now i'm not concerning myself here with is there life after death but with this point, when people have near death experiences they are measured to be brain dead, no activity can be measured in the brain, yet many report seeing what was happening to them or voices and visions.if this is true then consciousness is continuing while the brain is inactive.this is not sleep , where the brain is active , but the brain is to all intents and purposes dead.
if, and i say if this is true, then consciousness is not solely linked to brain activity.that would have major implecations as to the nature of consciousness.where exactly doeas our consciousness reside?is the brain just a means for it to recieve information and in fact consciousness does not exist there but works throught it instead.this does not have to mean we have an imortal soul etc, but for example, maybe hidden dimentions in space could be the source of our consciousness,or someting else, not just the world we are aware of.

I did have a near death experience when I was in my motorcycle accident in 1991. You can have your opinions all you want but they become only relevent to you, Reborn. I am confused as to how sometimes your thoughts sound very enlightened and other times you basically sound like a 12 year old Troll. Unless you have actually experienced what some people are talking about you are operating from a place of ignorance and speculation. As far as all of the stories being similar, how does this mean that they are bogus? Don't get me wrong, you can have your opinion but I think your post comes off as arrogant and caustic. If that wasn't the intention of it then I'm sorry.
At the time of my accident I still had the strong lingerings of the JW belief system in my head. Needless to say I was very confused as to what had happened since all good JW's know that when you die there is nothing. I even refused to believe that anything had happened for a very long time. I don't know what it all means but I do now believe there is something else after this life. Whether your energy simply dissipates I don't really know.

Valis, I'm NOT a wimp (Tattoo)
by LB inyep i took lots of heat from valis for worrying about my pain threshold but i went down today during meeting time and got my first tat.
it's a hawaiian tribal turtle.
it wasn't painful at all, maybe because of the location but it did burn a bit.

Nice tat. LB. Don't get too addicted to them though. As far as pain, I fell asleep during my tribal on my calf.

What Did The Angels Know?
by Dutchie inrevelation 12: 9 of the new world translation, says: .
so down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called devil and satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth, he was hurled down to the earth and his angels were hurled down with him.".
it has always been interesting to me that when satan rebelled a lot of the angels went along with him in his rebellion.

I'm sticking to my "the devil is a people person" theory. If not for him and Eve we would be walking robots without free will. This assumes you believe the Bible.

Athiest Moral Code?
by Xena ini was talking with an athiest friend the other day and he brought up the subject of how society in general has been governed by the christian moral code.
some christians apparently predict chaos in society if an athiest moral code ever replaced the christian one.
this made me wonder....what is the athiest moral code?

Of course the main tennet of the paganism that I practice forbids converting anyone or convincing them their God is wrong. I don't always agree with this but I do abide by it as much as I can.
