Between the atheists I've known and the Christians I've known I've found the atheist to be more moral by current societies standards. As with everything it is up to the individual. You can have a good christian (Mother Teresa) and a bad christian (Hitler). Good atheist (Carl Sagan) and bad atheist (Stalin).

Athiest Moral Code?
by Xena ini was talking with an athiest friend the other day and he brought up the subject of how society in general has been governed by the christian moral code.
some christians apparently predict chaos in society if an athiest moral code ever replaced the christian one.
this made me wonder....what is the athiest moral code?

Awesome story! At least things turned out ok. Although you better watch out, they might call 2 Elders <gasp>
Isn't it funny how Dubs really truly believe that the Elders are some kind of authority? Keep up the good work.

The Earth Summit/USA/ a 'Christian' Democracy?
by Celtic inhas anyone been following events at the 2002 earth summit on sustainable development?.
question.. if, just supposing that the united states of america was totally true to it's collective overall 'spirituality', would it be able as a country, to live up to the dictates of the country's own conscience, in acting out truthfully in accordance with what god himself expects of them to provide, to the best of their abilities, i.e.
really trying to do something about it all, rather than, side lining, procrastinating the big issues, whilst at the same time, being the largest consumeristic polluters of natural resources on the planet?.

One way the U.S. could avoid all the finger waving is to not tell other countries what to practice and what to believe. As far as environmental concerns, we suck. But guess what? So does everyone else. Sure we could improve but I think that the cost to technological advance would be to great. I have to go with Xander on this, our saving grace will be science. The Earth has survived far worse than us. Even if we killed every person on earth in a nuclear holocaust it would heal itself and a new species would take over.
I share the George Carlin view. People who wave the flag of environmental conscience only care about themselves but they like to disguise it as giving a shit about everyone else. Each person has to be willing to want to recycle. The burden is on the individual and not just entire governments.

Do you feel guilty about bringing people. . .
by StinkyPantz ininto the borg?.
i fortunately was never able to have a bible study grow all the way to the point of baptism.
but for those of you who did, do you feel guilty about bringing another person into what i think of as a cult?

I'm very guilty. My one of two wordly friends since I was 15 started studying because of me. Now, after 18 years he has decided to start shunning me. I told him the WTS were full of shit and gave him a ton of examples why. All he did was laugh nervously and I haven't seen or talked to him since. That was 2 months ago.

Has anyone seen this movie? I'm totally addicted to it. Thankfully, HBO family has been playing it religously (pun intended). I'm completely fascinated by the Buddhist stories. On a down note it has Keannu Reeves, as Buddha of all things. I think his acting sucks but I tend to like his movies, Matrix, Point Break (ok, I guess that's it). Some of it takes place in my area, Seattle, so it is always nice to recognize landmarks. Anyway, I love this movie. If anyone knows of any other movies about Buddhist beliefs or even educational items please let me know.

Professor talks about JWs in my 1st college course
by writerpen inokay, i was sitting there just learning (this is my first college course toward my b.a.
), and all of the sudden the professor asks, "is anyone here a jehovahs witness?
" (this is a required religion course).

Actually the problem arose from JBean's post. It looks like he had to recopy his original post and re-enter it. When you do this, mostly through incorrect username or password, it does not reformat to the original page size.
Thanks! I love school and if I could afford it I'd be a lifetime student just learning as much as I could.

Sounds cool, given the current state of the country the last thing I'd want to pay for is a course in christian propoganda. It is nice that you get to learn about so many different religions though. I knew Hinduism was old but I didn't know it was the oldest. As far as I knew Paganism was the oldest. I don't remember the Assyrian/Babylonians practicing Hinduism.

There are plenty of people here who were DF'd without a "trial". Bill Bowen being the most well known. Sooo are you happy to be DF'd? Obviously your mother is still talking to you and everything seems to be going ok.

Grats on college. At thirty three I'm back in class as well. However, I've been out of the WTS for about 13 years so I would not have bee able to prove the prof's point. I have considered taking a theology class. Do they teach about other religions besides Christianity?
