I can't help thinking, though, a decent diet (am I being heartless?) in this case may well have prevented both surgery and subsequent refusal of a transfusion.

I use the term "Cheers" also as a way of saying thanks (for something). Once, an elder chided me doing that. I queried what was wrong with it.
