Husband beats wife, husband studies with JWs, husband stops beating wife, all live happily ever after... help needed!
by cedars inwithout going into details, i'm doing some work on the recent feb 15th watchtower article, namely the experience that appears to excuse a husband beating his wife who is not sufficiently showing christian qualities, etc.. i am putting together a statement on the subject, and it occurred to me that the scenario of a violent husband beating his wife, then studying and becoming a witness is not entirely new in itself to the publications.
this alone is troubling, because there is repeated suggestion that staying with a violent husband is necessary in order to "win him over".
(1 peter 3:1).

How did our parents do it?
by pbrow inhow did you bury your head in the sand when something didnt seem right but you forced this religion on your kids anyway?
i was a born in, my mother was a convert.
ill admit, before i had kids i suppressed doubts and thought "this is as close as it gets to the truth" as soon as i had kids and realized that i now had to teach this garbage to my kids w/out really believing it was enough to get me to realize the cognitive dissonance stops here.

I can proudly say I never conducted The Family bible study. Did take them to the boasting sessions though... unless anyone of us had an ailment of some/any description.
[edited to include my shame - still, I guess it was a success... 2/3 not JWs]

Is There A Need For Any Publications Electronically
by allyouneedislove inhi everyone,.
i know a number of people who would definitely lend me old watchtower publications (booklets, books, etc).. is there a need for any scanned publications?

Doh - I forgot about the dinosaur in the Green NWT... I adored that conundrum!
It's an irony we 'apostates' need that literature more than they do.

WWI and Beer
by Farkel inin april, 1917 the united states declared war on germany.
the german u-boats had sunk a bunch of american ships and the war declaration was justified, even though woodrow wilson was basically, a total asshole.. anti-german frenzy hit the american shores.
sauerkraut was renamed "freedom cabbage" and dachshunds were stoned to death.

The Windsors changed their name from Saxe Coburg & Gothe during WWI (couldn't be seen to be German at that time in any sense, as per your thread. The King actually decided upon the name "Windsor" because their place of residence was Windsor Castle). However German dilution of the British/English Royal blood line doesn't antecede The Tudors. In fact, it originated with The House of Hanover arond the late 1600's and early 1700's This is a good link ...
The House of Stuart .... It's worth clicking both forward and back in that site's timeline. Interestingly, The Royal Family was more based upon French roots than German! But don't let me spoil a good story! Yep - it's me. I'm having the bad day!
Glad to see you're still flunking the History classes!

Farkel...
Churchill had nearly NOTHING to do with WWI. He probably had NOTHING AT ALL insofar as influence during WWI.
Yeah. I will still continue to claim that Churchill was pretty much irellevant during WWI.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_Churchill Read section on "Military history ~ Western Front"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Gallipoli Read section "Decision to Attack" (As an interesting aside Churchill is reported to have thought that the Gallipoli Campaign may have accelerated the genocide of the Armenian population in the Ottoman Empire during 1915)
I would hardly descibe someone who had the rank of "First Lord of the Admirality" in 1914 as "irellevant" (sic). You should also bring to mind that Churchill's decision to invade Norway during the early part of WWII (that, too,was considered a failure) based upon his strategy he proposed and actioned for Gallipoli.
I'm so glad my low grade history classes were higher than yours! Oh, and I still maintain "Beer and WWI" is a long way from xenophobia and racism... which, if you care to re-read what pig wrote was a natural progression of your very own (now) declared agenda of "racism and xenophobia". In fact, pig's opinion of Churchill being evil has a certain gravitas if care to read the history. Whether that was based upon racism or xenophobia I care not to debate.
I maybe a fool - clueless I am not. I'm also not intent on making you an enemy. As I said earlier, I enjoy your thoughts and I have not intimated anything to the contrary.
I repeat, "you having a bad day or summat?"

Advice for those who want to stay in, for some reason. One of the ways to get Elders off your back is to have an ally in the BOE, especially the one who is often on JC's.
by african GB Member in...and keep him very close, buy him some presents, take him out for supper and maybe even give him money.
that way you are a little bit assured of not getting punished or of getting a very lenient outcome if you happen to find yourself on jc..

I truly find it imposible to believe you could ever have an ally in the BoE!

Farkel ... you having a bad day or summat?
I was drawn by the subject heading "WW1 and Beer" ... plus I enjoy your posts. Reading through this I'm facing submarines, Americans, Germans, Taxes, Prohibition, Health Care, Republican politics (I think) .... not much about Beer or World War 1
That wouldn't be so bad but then you lambaste pig for daring to mention Churchill as being irrelevant to the topic! I'm not being sidetracked by that either as I believe Churchill has as much to answer for as he is to be praised. (Hmm - maybe I was sidetracked)
