Cross-Cultural Experiences?
by Babylon the Great Employee in(first, as an american, i must apologize to our international friends for our country ever exporting the watchtower in the first place.
someone should take up the matter with the wto.
seriously, though, i am interested in the differences (if any) in jw's across cultures.

The JW's will never completely axe the door-to-door work and justifiably so
by yadda yadda 2 inthe jw's will never completely stop the door-to-door work but they will eventually make it only optional.
in "in search of christian freedom", ray franz makes the excellent point that how we translate the greek kat' oikon that the watchtower society translates as 'house to house' depends entirely on the context, and there are other scriptures with the same greek work that are translated 'according to homes' or 'in homes', etc.
however, the greek preposition kata does have a 'distributive' sense and, unfortunately, ray franz did not adequately address this in his research.

Watch Tower Bullies Theft Society
by R.Crusoe inwho would think inviting a jw into ones house was inviting them to steal away your family and friends?.
who would have imagined jw s coming into your home was inviting them to steal your soul?.
dictating life and afterlife on allcomers like some ruthless killer snatching dreams and love from all they choose and ruthlessly destroying lives of all they touch with their poisoned intent to subdue and enslave any they can deceive with their forked tongues!.

Does the "24 Elders Class" constitute a New Class?
by Rapunzel ini was wondering if someone could kindly answer my question: is there a new, "24 elders" class of people?
i was baptized a long time ago - in 1976. i also faded a long time ago; i left in '78 or so.
in any case, at that time, the witnesses generally spoke of two groups or classes of people - the so-called "annointed" consisting of the 144,000 with the heavenly hope, and the so called "large crowd" whose hope was to inherit an earthly paradise.

jws and jury service
by nelly136 insome of those questioned mentioned personal hardships that could prevent them from serving on a trial that's estimated to last four weeks.
the reasons ran the gamut from being a jehovah's witness (whose religion doesn't allow them to sit in judgment) .

At One's Beckett and Call
by Rapunzel ini was wondering if anyone has read, and appreciates, the works of samuel beckett.
beckett is most famous, i suppose, for his stage play waitng for godot [en attendant godot].
although this is perhaps his most well-known stage play, beckett did write others such as krapp's last tape.

On-line Resource Material in Languages Other Than English
by Rapunzel inmy question is: how much material exists on line in languages other than english for ex-jehovah's witnesses and people doing research on the witnesses organization?
of course, there is now an extremely vast amount of such research and reference material in english on the internet; then again, english is - at present - the predominant language used on the internet in general.
but does anyone know the situation in regard to languages other than english?.

Required Reading Lists for Presidential Candidates
by Rapunzel inas students, were you ever assigned a reading list of books that you had to read?.
in yesterday's [sunday's] new york times, there was - what i thought - a very interesting article.
it was a sort of survey in which some twenty writers were asked which books they thought the three american presidential candidates should be asked to read.
