Lady Lee (Lee Marsh) could use help
by Dogpatch inshe can't read this now because her computer has been broken for several days.
lee is not a complainer now would dare ask for help, but though she can even build computers, she has ancient equipment and if you know her, little funds.. bottom line: she needs a $500+ cpu box to get updated to the 21st century.
if you are interested in helping her (don't email her because she won't get it, and don't call her and embarrass her yet) but this girl needs a "working car" to get back on the road, if you know what i mean.. email me at [email protected].

And "you will not be tempted beyond your ability to resist" - therefore there are no tests.

Ok, so the WT isn't a prophet...
by sabastious in...lets just say the witnesses are correct in their assertion that the gb are not prophets and subsequently are not under deuteronomy's definition of a false prophet.. this begs a question for me.. when, in god's entire scheme throughout the bible, did he run things without a prophet?
when did he run things with leaders who didn't speak for him?.

Is Francis Collins a Deist?
by leavingwt injerry coyne asks, "is francis collins a deist?".
at 'big think', there is a video of a recent interview with francis colllins, the respected american geneticist and director of the nih.
in fact, this doesnt verge on deism: it is deism.

I agree with some of Collins: Science answers how, philosophy engages with why. I like how he is open to possibility, rather than imposing dogma.
Science and philosophy should not be confused.

Modesty VS Faith
by SweetBabyCheezits inmodesty asks us to recognize our limitations.
faith demands that we know the unknowable.. pick one..

SBC: I like the way your mind works. I've enjoyed your posts. A lovely dichotomy, at least in the JW mindset. Made me smile!
For me, I don't need faith. I prefer to engage with what is in front of my eyes, what is so, what is in this moment. I guess that makes me a pragmatist. I know that everything ends, so I try to enjoy what is there while it is there. When things change, I try to enjoy the new stuff. My *modesty* tells me I can't know the future, my heart tells me I don't need to know the future.
Butler said, "God is change." Certainly change is a consistent part of the landscape.
Syl: I like the way you put that. It's not how I was raised to view faith, it's a more functional, useful definition.

so were do I go now that ive left the kingdom hall?
by arimatthewdavies inmany people for one reason or other have quit going to the kingdom hall me included!
i dont object to the people for they are clean well dressed human beings, i object to the way a prefabricated doctorine is distributed, useing hugh amounts of books magazines and media to attempt to study the bible,i feel obligated to say i agree with that method and under pressure to promote it, theirfore i stoped going because pretending to agree with this method and rendering lip service to it in order to keep from being disfellowshiped is a lie,and liers go to the lake of fire, .
so now that we have left the hall were do we go?

Religion is a contradiction from God.
Don't let someone else tell you what God wants to do with you.

You know what's funny to me is how JW's will trash talk all these other religions and yet
by gubberningbody inwhen they are faced with "picking on someone their own size", like an ex-jw, they insist that "we don't talk about religion".. my wife and i ate with a couple from our old hall last saturday.
super nice couple.
reasonable, fairly well adjusted (which is to say with significant worldly tendencies - they were successful in business, they were going on a sailing trip for a couple of weeks in the carribbean, the following day they were going golfing and going out on the town) and yet we had to avoid discussing "the truth".. ok, i understand the dissonance these are going through, but c'mon!

It IS hypocrisy.
It's also denial.

LDUH:
The WTS has denigrated the UN as thoroughly evil and of Satan, for many decades. In addition, as a governmental agency of man, Witnesses are to be No Part Of It.
However, rather than following this policy, the WTS JOINED the UN as a Non-Givernmental Organization (NGO) to promote the UN and its goals.
The kept it secret.
Then The Guardian ran an expose showing the WTS had been a part of the UN for a decade.
Grasping at straws, the WTS claimed they only became an NGO so they could access their library. However, we can see in various articles during this time the WTS rhetoric against the UN became glowing reports of UN successes - and, to be an NGO, one of the things the WTS had to do was promote their work.
It is one of the most hypocritical things the WTS has done - damn the UN and then be a part of it.

The excuse is irrelevent. They cavorted with The Beast. End of story.
If I had joined the Y just to use the gym, I would have been sanctioned.
If I had taken blood just to live, I would have been sanctioned.

Do Any of you JWs watch anime?
by BlackTwisted inif so, what is your favorite one?.
one of my friends said she couldn't watch anime because of where it was orginated and it was a tradition, if that were true, then everyone in japan would be drawing anime of "tradition" like what the heck?
since when did drawing ever became a tradition?

Well, as an X-JW, I can say, Yes. Neon Genesis Evangelion is my fave.
