The odd trajectory of Watchtower fulfillment of prophecy
by Olin Moyles Ghost inwhen you were a believer, did you ever find it odd that the further we get into the "last days" fewer and fewer bible prophecies are being fulfilled?.
for example, as jws we learned that lots of prophecies were fulfilled during the wwi time period--satan being cast out of heaven, gentile times ending, jesus enthroned as king, then the inspection of religions in 1918 and the appointment of the wts 'over all his belongings' in 1919. also, the two witnesses of revelation were resurrected in 1919, and the 1260, 1335, and 2300 days of daniel were fulfilled by various wt articles during the 1920s and 30s.
further, the 7 trumpet blasts of revelation sounded in the 1920s at 7 district conventions.

Even 1919 is already being swept under the carpet as has been pointed out recently.
Where did you hear/read this?
As far as I know, I also thought 1919 was being swept under the carpet. It was mysteriously missing from the "JW's must worship the FDS" study articles two weeks ago. But they haven't dismissed it entirely, nor can they. It's WHEN the FDS acquired it's 'supposed' power, so I doubt they can dismiss it so easily.

Jehovah Knows in Advance His People Will Fail - July 1 09 WT
by Hopscotch inin this public edition of the watchtower it uses an illustration of a piece of furniture to help explain why jehovah tolerated polygamy.. but the more interesting point i thought was the reasoning in the first paragraph in the second column about jehovah warning his people when they strayed from his standards.
it says "however, he knew in advance that his people would often fail to obey even the most basic of commands, such as the one against idolatry.
(exodus 32:9).

I'm sorry, but I still can't get past that "furniture" part without laughing. What the hell is up with the Writing Dept?

Two by two going to a funeral!!
by alanv ini'm sitting at home watching cricket on the box( i know that's sad) and look out of the window and who do i see but two sets of people walking down the street calling on peoples houses.
yes jehovah's witnesses.. the weird thing is that they are walking even slower than people in a funeral march.
they look just as unhappy as if someone has just died.. also why do they go house to house in twos.

Considering they are meant to be engaged in an urgent life saving work there whole demeanor says the opposite namely no hurry at all, miserable as hell and speaking to 50% less people than they would if they worked singly.
This is the golden ticket. IF they were truly concerned about others welfare because the big A was getting ready to hit, they would urgently be going to as many houses as they could.
THIS is one of the things that woke me up. As I grew older, I started to get more spiritual in the congregation where I grew up. It was a Spanish congo, and with this particular one, this is how field service was handled:
-You'd get a street or two, with maybe 10-15 houses.
-You'd find maybe one or two people (mostly childen).
-Then after about 40 minutes, you were done. You would check with everybody else in the area to see if they needed help, but if they were almost done, there was nothing you could do. Now it was time to go get some lunch.
THIS method seemed so out-of-date and incompetent. We weren't finding people! Even after I got married and moved to another congo, it was handled the same way.
Now my wife and I did spend some time with an English congo, and things were a little different. The particular one we went to, the brothers would make an effort to find more people. But most of the time was spent driving to farther places. So we would probably try to reach the same number of people, only it would take 2 hours instead of less than 1.
And at the very end, this is what it should come down to:
IF JW's have a truly urgent message, they would NOT be afraid to confront someone who is an "apostate" or perhaps a priest who truly knows his Bible. Why not sit down and defend their faith?

I have just had a WHOO HOO moment - a pattern in WT lies TIMING in mags
by hamsterbait inapril 1st, may 15th and sometimes september.. the number of huge doctrinal bombs, or manipulative deceits that have been printed regularly in those editions is incredible.. if i had the cd still i want to target those magazines to see what they put across.. the pattern is so regular it is monotonous.
i only realised this today as i was looking up some older threads, and realised how often these months come up.. of course when they want to slip something past craftily, they prolly use a feb or nov witchtower.. anybody able to confirm??.
do april 1, or may 15 have any special secret "pagan " or other associations??.

I don't know if you would call it a "WHOO HOO moment", but I too have noticed something about the months they decide to publish some of their new truths deceits. At least for me, it does seem to occur in about April/May or August/September. Well, for the most part...
Just off the top of my head, here are some examples:
-April 1st, 1979 - Jesus is NOT the mediator for all mankind.
-April 1st, 1972 - The WT declares that "it is easy to say that this group acts as a 'prophet' of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this could be done is to review the record. What does it show?
-April 1st, 1920 - The WT declares that they would "not refuse to treat one as a brother because he did not believe the Society is the Lord's channel."
-April/May 1984 WT's - The WT declares in 4 issues that the Generation of 1914 wouldn't pass away before the end of this "system of things". Yeah, right. Another false prophecy.
-August 1st or 15th, 1974 - The WT declares that it's okay to treat D/F members nicer and that it's OK to talk to them.
-September 15th, 1981 - JW's shall NOT talk or even eat with D/F JW's.
-April 15th, 1988 - The WT declares how to treat D/F ones yet again.
OK, after putting together this list, I was wrong. For some reason I have a lot of April quotes in my head right now. The September article I mentioned above stands out for me because that's when they instituted their hardline approach towards D/F ones.
I don't really see a pattern. I'm sure anyone else here could declare that any other month shows other important WT declarations.

I noticed this too!! Growing up and believing in all of this stuff, I felt that I was in the right religion because of all these "supposed" prophetic fulfillments.
But I felt left out because I wasn't a part of any of it. I wished that I had been alive in the 20's or 30's to see all of it happening.
Of course, once I found out it was all a myth, it's even more disappointing. It never ceases to amaze me just how deluded the Witnesses are. I just want to walk up to one of them and shake 'em and say: "It's all fake! The WT is lying to you! It's not fulfilling Bible prophecy!"
But then I might look like the nut...

Dude, that sounds like a typical JW. You ask a question they can't answer, and they answer it with something totally off-topic.
JW's are very scatterbrained. They're trained to divert the issue at all times, instead of facing it head-on.
As someone on this board once said, The GB got exactly what they wanted: brainless sheep who follow their every move.

CHURCHES IMPLEMENT the "MARKING SYSTEM"
by cameo-d inshelter scans fingerprints of homeless.
the homeless shelter is testing a new $150,000 security system that scans clients' fingerprints, and baldwin said he expects it will be fully up and running in a few weeks.. "but they should not be treating everyone who goes to the centre as if they're potentially a criminal.
from inn from the cold society website, this is the screening protocol for overnight shelter:.

So the Mark of the Beast will come from churches, and not the governments?

Leolaia's Scans of Rutherford's Teachings
by snowbird init struck me as i was reading this thread that rutherford had to be an agent of satan.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/175341/5/so-they-never-claimed-to-be-an-inspired-prophet.
he claimed that the anointed weren't sufficiently enlightened until the lord (jesus) came to his temple in 1918!.
when at the kh, we used to sing "let the light shine," i had no idea that the stanza, .

I began to think of Rutherfraud as an agent of Satan after I found out that he taught that the Holy Spirit was no longer operating over him or the WT. He claimed that angels were transmitting information to him.
By his spirit, the holy spirit, Jehovah God guides or leads his people up to a certain point of time, and thus he did until the time when "the comforter" was taken away, which would necessarily occur when Jesus, the Head of his organization, came to the temple and gathered unto himself those whom he found faithful when he, as the great Judge, began his judgment, in 1918. Preservation, Rutherford, 1932, p.193-194.
With the coming of the Lord to his temple and the gathering together unto himself of the chosen ones (2 Thess. 2:1) the holy spirit would there cease to function as a paraclete or advocate for the church. -ibid., p. 46.
Jehovah has made the necessary arrangements within his organization to instruct his people, and all recognize that for some years The Watchtower has been the means of communicating information to God's people. That does not mean that those who prepare the manuscript for The Watchtower are inspired, but rather it means that the Lord through his angels sees to it that the information is given to his people in due time, and he brings to pass the events in fulfillment of his prophecy and then invites those devoted to him to see the same. Riches, Rutherford, 1936, p. 316.

TIMBOB, in the 3rd letter of John, verses 9 and 10, there is mention of a Diotrephes who would keep people from coming into the church and would also kick them out. Sounds a lot like disfellowshipping to me.
