English isn't my first language, don't destiny and fate mean the same thing? Better way to put it: Choice or destiny?

Judas Iscariot: Destiny or Fate?
by sacolton ini've always wondered if judas really had a choice in his role of deceiving jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
did he really have any freewill?
since the scriptures had to be fullfilled, was his fate pre-determined by god?

Maybe it was predetermined (predicted) that it'll happen, but the actual person was not determined in advance as there were many in Israel as we see from the Bible who would do the same at the time. Jesus failed their expectation of a warrior king freeing them from the Roman domination.
I always thought that Jesus would forgive Judas, like he forgave Peter for denying him or the criminal impaled next to him just moments before his death. After all, Judas did regret his betrayal, wanted to return the money, but the poor guy couldn't undo what happened. A couple of years ago I heard in the news Jewish rabbi's justifying Judas, reasoning that since it was predicted and someone had to do it - Judas was somewhat of a hero or something, for taking on that heavy burden of sin on himself. Who knows... Jesus is the only who can decide whether to forgive or not. I hope Jah forgives Judas like he forgave Israel their numerous sins.

One elder I knew charged $$$ for helping immigrants come and work in the country illegally. They needed a citizen as a guarantor to get entry visa. The elder wasn't naturalized citizen himself yet so (!) he got another JW with citizenship to sign for them. The JW that signed for them didn't get a penny from this "business". To her surprise (and horror) she spotted one of the people she signed for working the street as a prostitute.

Newbies - How are you Benefiting from the Supportive Discussion on JWD ?
by flipper inso - i thought i'd put this question out there for the newbies here.
how are you benefiting from the supportive discussion you are partaking in here on jwd ?
do you see a different sense of freedom of speech which you can partake in - as opposed to being under " information control " as a jehovah's witness and only being allowed to talk about subjects that are previously arranged for you to discuss ?

There's always some one wiser than me to put it all in perspective and give a balanced view. Good mix of people.
Probably the most interesting site I found in the last 5 years. I'm glad I found it. The only one I visit more often is http://mediahopper.com - free tv from all over.

Unrealized hopes and dreams - crappy reality of life
by tartarus ini am thankful to jehovah's witnesses who taught me the bible.
i still believe it is the word of god.
i have studied other spiritual traditions and have compared different teachings and haven't found one that gives such a positive outlook on the future.

I haven't slept much in the last 3-4 days. Spent most of my time here, I'm hooked.
Beats talking to my shrink ( it goes something like this "So do you need more medication this week?")

It puzzled me that there are no Asians on the Governing Body.No Latino. No Slav. It's an American religion headed by mainly Anglo-Saxon leadership. Amazing diversity lately though - a lonely black dude. :)
I could tolerate it at least if they were right about their doctrines. After all, Jesus' apostles were a pretty homogenous group - all Jewish. But come on ! Where is the diversity of the rank and file reflected in the leadership?

Welp- Talked to an elder
by megawatt inspoke to an elder and mentioned i had some concerns that need addressing.
he asked if it's about the organization and i answered with a simple yes.
it's something i don't want to do, but for some reason the better half thinks it's necessary, as if i need a different perspective on my research and maybe he'll be able to shed some light on my doubts.

Tape the conversation and post it on Youtube. Then they can't lie about why you left.

I'm inactive. "You're still considered a part of the congregation", I was told. Went to a meeting couple of months ago. Looked outside the window the whole time. Passers by were more interesting to watch. Didn't sing the stupid communist marches either. Prayed though (can't ignore Jah).
After the meeting an elder came up and asked me what's wrong with my neck. ( ! ) Wow !
I could hardly restrain myself from going postal . Thanks to Witchtower's elders treatment of me I'm legally insane by the way, so if I killed the old windbagger right there, I'd plea insanity and won't do time. Hmm, why didn't think of it at that very moment? (I guess I'm a good sheep after all)
I didn't look at him, told him it was this new medication I was on, made my neck stiff ( I lied ).
Might go back to confront the a-hole whose actions led to my mulitiple suicide attempts in the last 2 years.
My eye is twitching...damn :)

Letter to Elders As An MS Going to College
by daniel-p in[this is the letter i wrote in december, 2005 to my po just before i confronted all my doubts.
the infamous article bashing higher education had just come out and i was having a hard time making sense of everything.
i was still a ministerial servant, and it just pushed me over the edge.

I worked as hairdresser before. If you want to make money, trust me - you can't do it part-time. There's too much competition in the business. When I went to beauty school it was full of highschool dropouts . For that reason in Ontario the Guild of Hairstylists lobbied for the gov. to require that they finish grade 12 (before you could do with grade 10). Imagine the idiots who end up there. I had a 90 % percent average when I graduated. Why of why didn't I listen to the guidance counsellors? Oh, I know....you guessed it - the end is near.
Plus you gotta go to hair shows and take classes continually to upgrade your skills and keep sense of style up-to-date. That takes time. Wouldn't recommend this job to JW. Fashion business is evil. lol
