Brings me back too, but it's been so long now that I'm surprised at how robotic the replies are. Not that it isn't very recognizable, because it certainly is. I find it very sad now. The "worst part" is, I know how they're thinking. This took me right back. Always afraid of outside input, always wondering if something is OK to read or if it could lead to bad influence. Always suspicious if a source is not from the WBTS. Pretty much everything not from WBTS is from Satan in some way or another. My heart sinks when I read this.

On the upside, if memory serves me right, this is how those meetings always are, but people actually do think for themselves - just not aloud. Not all of them of course, and mostly not those who are very eager to reply, but many in the congregation probably got something to think about during this study, and I'm sure this will even "stumble" a few of them.

But seriously - that was hard to read. I mean - what's the point in these "discussions" anyway? Brother reads paragraph, sister or brothers replies to question on the paragraph with the exact same statement that's in the paragraph. And around and around we go. I can only think of this as brainwashing. Something is drilled into you and repeated ad nauseum, until it becomes fact.

Sad.

I agree with you - I pity and feel sorry for myself as well. That said, I feel sorry and pity you too - the both of us for not having ever lasting life. And everyone else; the entire human race. It's a shame. -You can of course choose to believe differently than I do, though. Perhaps there are pink unicorns on the far side of the moon if we just believe hard enough, and need it enough.

I'm not really angry or hateful as you say, though. I'm pretty mellow. But you should know, that some people here have spent a good portion of their lives occupied with this religion, where they were advised not to have children or an education because Armageddon was so close. Over 30 years ago. For some - over 50 years ago. Or they had friends who chose not to have a blood transfusion which could have saved their life (no, not necessarily, but very likely). And now they believe what they learned as JWs was all a lie. I think we can afford them some hurt feelings which then turn to anger, can't we?

You're here - that's a start. When I say 'here', I don't even necessarily mean this place. You're on the internet, where information is abundant. Questions will inevitably arise.

This is good news. If we can take their picture, they must emit or reflect light. If they emit or reflect light, they must exist in the physical world. If they exist in the physical world, we can capture them, put them in a box and sell them on eBay. Or... start believing in them - whichever comes first.

Umm... about this: how will this actually work? Will there be two separate magazines, both called The Watchtower, but where one of them is an inside edition not given out to people in the field ministry?

Or will they simply stop giving out Watchtower magazines to non-members, and only Awake! from now on?

anyway, i was searching the wt 2006 cd and i came across this qfr that has nothing to do with what i was looking for, but i could not believe what i was reading.

this has to be one of the most inane "reasonings" from the scriptures i have ever read.

Millions of years vs. Thousands according to the Society

another topic gave me the idea to post this one.

i have always asked myself, why does the society not agree with the amount of time archeologists say dinosaurs and other species roamed the earth?

they agree the earth has existed for maybe billions of years.

The WBTS agree with the date of the earth and universe because there are so many different scientific methods that support that view.

But they have to put their foot down somewhere, and that's where the Bible's creation days come in. 24hr days are a little embarrassing, so they use other scriptures to infer that the days are undefined periods of time. The 7000 years is because they believe (or believed; you never know, I might have missed some new light) that since it's now been about 6000 years since Adam, and God's rest is said at least once in the Bible to be still running, that it makes sense that once the 6000 years are over, the last thousand years of the last 'day' will be the millennium of Christ. I guess perhaps that theory was shot to the non-existent hell, since 1975 came and went and we're now 32 years into that millennium. Who knows.

'Answers in Genesis' by the way, is a young earth creationist site, set up to support the view that the Biblical creation story is 100% reliable, and literal (seven 24hr days).

Thanks. As soon as I rid myself of the bull I believed before, I immediately sought out new bull I could believe in, and this seems to hit the spot.

I must confess I'm partial to Truthism as well though, because... well - who wouldn't agree that the Bush family are reptilians? And that there's people living inside the Earth, with guarded portals at the poles. I feel so free now that I've learned the Truth.

But this sounds promising as well.

We are glad to share with you what actually occurred, as well as Bible principles that provide a balanced understanding of the Christian view of the world’s governments, including the United Nations. Clearly there is no basis for concluding from what transpired that the Watch Tower Society (or Jehovah’s Witnesses) has ever joined the United Nations or any other government. No one at headquarters has acted disloyally or deceitfully in handling matters. With hindsight, we recognize that some things could have been done with greater scrutiny. If one is looking for evidence that all of Jehovah’s people, including those at headquarters, are imperfect and may not always consider matters as carefully as they should before acting, despite their best intentions, then we quickly acknowledge that such evidence is not hard to find.

Our comments: Indeed it is a bizarre and extraordinary accusation that the Watchtower could have become “part” of the UN. It is the line of the ignorant fool who doesn't understand what he or she is talking about. We see the Society acknowledges that perhaps they could have been more careful. It is unfortunately that they did not notice the change in DPI requirements which occurred in 2000 before the apostates did. If they had, the apostates would have not been able to lie about it as much.

-And seriously: every time my bank changes it's exchange rates, I get a letter in the mail informing me of this. Every time PayPal or any other online entity or web shop that I'm "affiliated" with changes their policy on privacy etc., I get an e-mail informing me of this.

Are they telling me that the United Nations aren't informing their NGO 'affiliates' when there's an important change in the way they are associated with them, and what it implies? Do they not have lawyers over there?
