guess i hadn't been paying "close attention" at the meetings a few years ago......apparently, jesus is not the mediator between god and men like the bible says, he's only the mediator between the 144,000 and jehovah - i guess the rest of us can go straight to hell in a handbasket...... .

how long has this bizarre theory been around??!!

i was absolutely stunned to hear this one, as i had never heard it before.

I know this discussion is probably over, but this has been bothering me all day and I have to get it out of my system. I vaguely remember reading the change in mediatorship before, but it never really made any impression on me. I just felt "they knew what they were doing, they were God's chanel, not me, so shut up and enjoy the ride." Now it's a different story.

The word arrogance is used alot on this board, in reference to the Society. Now I understand. It is Blasphemous Arrogance. How dare they put themselves in the position of our Lord and Savior? How dare they take away a relationship that is between Jesus and us? Is this the unforgivable sin?

8 Hence, the ransom sacrifice is fundamental to the new covenant, of which Jesus is the Mediator. Paul wrote: "There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus, who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all-this is what is to be witnessed to at its own particular times." (1 Timothy 2:5, 6) Those words especially apply to the 144,000, with whom the new covenant is made.

11 Nevertheless, in a preliminary way, the great crowd have already "washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." (Revelation 7:14) Christ does not act as Mediator of the new covenant toward them, yet they benefit from this covenant through the work of God's Kingdom. Christ still acts toward them, however, as High Priest, through whom Jehovah can and does apply the ransom to the extent of their now being declared righteous as God's friends. (Compare James 2:23.) During the Millennium, they will gradually "be set free from enslavement to corruption [until finally they] have the glorious freedom of the children of God."-Romans 8:21.

Ooh, the ponies in bluebells are adorable. Ruined farmhouse and Strangles!(sounds awful) are so beautiful...wish I was there right now. I hope one day to get to England, but esp. Ireland.

So if i understand correctly, home teaching would be like having "Shepherding visits" more frequently than once a month. No wonder 40% said "No Thanks!"

They started out with a great idea in the 1840's--visiting the members in their homes to determine their material needs, and then doing something about it.

I can remember as a young elders quorum president in the 1980's that the challenge was to get 80% home teaching monthly. It was a realistic goal and we usually wound up somewhere in the 70's. That was a good sized ward in the Midwest.

Now I am in another good sized ward in the Midwest. 50% would be a high total for the month. This is not because people are unwilling to home teach -- it is because so many "members" no longer even let the home teachers into their homes. We start out with a 40% no contact list! I do not think we are unusual for the mission field. So many of those who converted as teens/young adults are now just saying get lost. These aren't old time Mormons, but the accumulation of years of missionaries baptizing people who didn't really have a clue about what Mormonism was really all about.

Our elders have become tired of the constant call to increase the home teaching. It is not going to happen.

Is hometeaching the same as bible studies or do they mean bookstudies?

My darn dog died

i've had this cowdog for nearly 11 years now.

today she went out in the sun and got heatstroke and just didn't recover.

i gave her cpr and brought her back twice but she was too far gone.

You just gotta do what's right. Regardless of if your family is dubs that wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire, they're still family and they're your family. We have the obligation regardless of how they feel. Think of the scriptures such as in the book of James about telling someone in need "go in peace, keep warm and well fed" or the one that says "if a man does not take care of those who are his own...". Jesus said "don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing" meaning pretty much to do what you gotta do without anyone knowing or even acknowledging.

And at the end of the day, you're a better person for it.
