I recently reconnected with a couple of friends from my childhood who have left. Very liberating.

Reuniting with ex-jws from your home town
by Mysterious inhas anyone had the experience from talking to ex-jws from their home town?
it really is an eerie experience to talk to someone who knows the exact place, circumstance and lifestyle that you do.
even more so than the connectedness of places like jwd.

Active Elders who post on JWD
by Honesty indoes your conscience torment you knowing that you are misleading the flock of god as you continue teaching them the heresies of the watchtower society?.
why are you staying in the organization and posting here at the same time?.
do you really believe that you can help your families to reject the watchtower society while remaining an elder and visibly appearing to support their lies and false teachings?.

I was pleased and a little nonplussed to find active elders posting here. I was raised a JW with a non believing father, in a small town. I looked up to the elders as surrogate fathers and believed them when they told me that I needed a "Spiritual" head to survive until the end. My mother, sister and I lived under the thumb of whatever congregation we attended, and until my teens I didnt' question them. Having an elder here that I can talk to helps me. I now know I am not the only one with these thoughts. Yes, Paralipomenon is my husband, but he is too close. If he had DA'd himself years ago I would have left him, no questions asked. He faded quietly and subtly enough that he didn't raise any red flags. When the time came that I was willing to openly admit I had doubts, I was surprised at how far he had gone. We almost divorced over this whole thing. Everyone has to make thier own choices and do what is best for them. For me having an active elder on these boards is very comforting to me.

Hey Para, do you think we can move before then? I am not sure I can handle "Brother Bob" and all his friends getting thier time in "encouraging" me to attend the memorial. Not to mention I will be seriously tempted to call the condo board and report the "JW's" for trespassing, and that will just not end well. We could just leave town and not tell anyone where we are? PLEASE!!!!!!!! Or I could hang a x-mas wreath on the door and hope they assume we moved? or something easter like, help me out here, not sure of the holidays, what coincides with that time of year?

My husband, Paralipomenon, mentioned it when I asked him what "Silent Lambs" was. Later I googled it and started reading. I blame him. Don't worry babe, I still love you.

I helped nurse my grandmother thru her cancer treatments. She was diagnosed way too late so it was more a matter of helping her with what time she had left. She went on Carboplatin to try to slow down the growth of the tumors(yes multiple tumors) and never lost her hair. She still felt terrible afterwards. I found that she loved it when I researched all the new information she was getting and broke it down so she could better understand. I also took to emailing and calling her much more often with stories about my kids. She loved hearing about them and would often tell me stories about my mother and her brothers. I got to know her very well in her last few months, and she took the time to really know me. Unfortunately she went downhill very quickly, I was able to get to her bedside in time to say goodbye.
Stay active, stay interested in life. Don't give up!

Did you have to dress up for meeting?
by ericr ini remember having to dress up for every meeting even the ones during the week.
i had to wear a botton down shirt dress pants, a tie, dress shoes, dress socks and a blazer.
this was also required by my parents to dress up when going door to door.

Overnight I remembered something else. Anyone from Alberta knows how cold it can get there. I was a regular Auxillary there for almost 2 years and after freezing thru the first winter, I started wearing pants under my skirts. I bought two long full black skirts a size too big and wore sweat pants under them. With tall boots and a long skirt no one noticed until we had to spend one morning is service digging the cars out of snowdrifts. I slipped and fell and that's when my secret was out. I got counseled that it was inappropriate for a sister to wear pants in service. I started doubling up on my tights after that which, if you have never worn tights before is really awkward, but I am sure i didnt' stumble anyone.
Anyone else have to bring a scarf to the meeting to cover your knees? I am not a tall woman and when I sit in the chairs my feet don't touch all the way, unless I am wearing heels. A below the knee skirt rides up to about an inch above and that is before trying to cross my legs. My mother and I got into trouble in one congregation for distracting the speaker with our uncovered legs. We were told that the brothers speaking could practically see up our skirts. So we started bringing scarves to the meetings. Wasn't what they wanted but we were not going to buy new clothes to suit some old fuddyduddy.

My mom was so strict that I couldn't even wear a long denim skirt to do the hall cleaning. Denim was satan's fabric. Pantyhose in July in Montreal at age 10. I only wear pantyhose now when the situation calls for it. ie: Company dinners(Formal) or 30 below. I never dressed my boys up in shirts and ties unless it was the memorial or the sunday of the convention. I love it when Paralipomenon gets all dressed up in suit and tie. He looks really good and I have flash backs to that lovely line of beautiful young brothers standing at the front of the hall looking oh so pious.
Now that I think about it, I think mom even insisted we wear skirts to the convention cleanup. I remember feeling really naughty when I went one year without her and I wore jeans. My friends and I all snickered at the little goody two shoes wearing dresses. Yikes, teenagers can be mean.
