  Taliban prisoners in Cuba

  does this trouble anyone?.

  it seems semantic tom-foolery to declare a war on terrorism, and then to say that prisoners of the war are not prisoners of war.. it also seems very suspect keeping them of proper usa soil, as where they are they are out of sight, mind, or appeal by civil-rights factions.. do not get me wrong.. i am not saying, "ah, poor ickle terrorists".. but in a war against terror, surely taking each and every opportunity to distance yourself from your enemies is the wisest and best course of action?.

  why do anything that is even remotely dodgy or underhand?.

  These people will kill your mother, aunt, son, doughter and any one else they can get their hands on.

  Seems you have more information than the rest of us, who get nothing but propaganda via the mass media.

  Who are these people, and what evidence is there? Heck, even circumstantial evidence would be a good start. Anything more than hearsay and allegations.

  I wish I could sentence you to five days of helping remove the bodies at ground zero.....

  Totally irrelevant. I wish I could sentence you to removing the bodies of the innocent victims of this war-or-not-war "against terrorism". Oh, I'm sorry, there aren't any. CNN said so.

  But that's besides Abaddon's point. Where do you draw the line? Why should human rights be valid for some and not others, and who decides who's entitled? The media? The president of the USA? The military? The mob on the streets?

  And if there are different sets of human rights, what gives the USA the right to complain about other countries' human rights practices? "No fair trials for Americans in China? Those evil Chinese commies! No fair trials for Afghans on a US base? Those evil Afghans!"

  my handle: mindchild comes from computer scientist and futurist dr. hans moravec: who wrote the book, the future of robot and human intelligence which is a book about when we will be able to construct machines capable of human intelligence and raises the possibility of uploading ourselves (every thought we ever had) into an android body much superior to the human ones we have now.

  i entertain the hope that not only will i live long enough to see this happen, i will transfer myself (the complete essence of what is me) into a body of my own choosing and become immortal if i so choose.

  Mine means nothing at all. It's basically constructed like some people make up their passwords: think of a sentence, and take the first letter(s) of each word. But I'm not going to tell you the sentence ;-)

  someone unknown to me sent an electronic mail message to me with respect to community conscious international comments on the dispute between the watchtower and the community of stratton, ohio.

  i guess the person wants to send the following to every person in stratton and would like comments on the message.

  Sure. Ohio, of all places, has become the very centre of the world's attention.

  The basic idea behind this message is good: educated people don't fall for JW stories. However, the way it's written, I'd file it under "fanatic rant" or "conspiracy theory".

  Plus, I never trust people who can't spell lose correctly.

  at first glance, most people would say that there are lots of very good jws around.

  ok, we reason, maybe they are a little misguided, but most of them mean well.

  we particularly like to think that way about our friends and loved ones who are in the organisation, we dont want to regard them as being unkind and uncaring.

  Whilst I would not go overboard and say that the witnesses are ALL ‘stupid, hateful, evil’, I would say that most of them have unwittingly learned to be quite stupid, quite hateful and quite evil.

  Damn, I hate "me too" messages, but I just couldn't agree more with you, Eman. See my last two postings on http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=18628&site=3 for one example why I do.

  see if microsoft can help with the printing problem.

  does it make sense to do what my boss thinks should be done or go with what is dept.

  Throw the damm thing out the window...that will solve the gremlins,then your boss will have to get you a nice shiny new puter.

  The most reasonable suggestion so far. Alternatively, switch to a company that hires competent IT staff. Unfortunately, in the last years, IT hiring has been dumbed down enormously - management seems to think that "it's Windows, anyone can handle that, so we might as well hire trained monkeys". To some extent, that is correct: even Microsoft certified experts often suggest desparate pseudo-solutions like "just reboot the thing" or "let's just reinstall everything". There's usually not much more you can do, since it's often practically impossible to find out what exactly the problem is. That's why many IT professionals hate Microsoft software passionately.

  Buy yourself lots of Dilbert books in the meantime. They won't fix your computer, but they will lighten up your day.

  Absolutely. As some others mentioned before, there's the Kingdom Hall language ("upbuilding", "the world", "this system"...). I think if you've heard that often enough, your subconscious can pick it up long before you become aware of it.

  A dead giveaway is the phrase "I know Jehovah's Witnesses very well", sometimes followed by "and they're the nicest people to be around" or "and if everyone was like them...".
