The only time it ever happened to me was with a kid that had witness relatives and already knew. I was out with that relative actually so I think it was more of a social visit. I sat in the other room with him and chatted quietly about how much I hated it, lol.

Ever have the shame of knockin on your schoolmates doors as a kid?
by xnmad inever wanted the floor to just swallow you up?then spent the rest of the wkend shittin it coz of whats gonna happen when you walk through the school doors on monday morning.think its affecting my parenting skills as an adult though coz am so aware of how my children feel about things, and the importance of never making them feel awkward or embarrassed.makes me wonder how much my parents thought of my feelings?i think they thought any bullying was a necessary form of torture, and would help me feel as christ did,i was probably sposed to enjoy it.

Another JCanon related-ish topic
by IP_SEC inam i the only one that finds it interesting that religious people argue and make jabs at jcanon?.
you cant understand that every jesus, moses, and saul of tarsus was a jcanon that happened to be 'deified' in some way posthumously?.
do you really see a difference between jcanon and saul of tarsus?.

I think JCanon is a prime example of how you can take any almost any modern event and apply it to Bible prophecy. His ideas are no crazier than what the Watchtower Society prints.

Although you may not practise any religion anymore do you......
by JH inalthough you may not practise any religion anymore do you still defend what the bible says to your best, when someone of another faith says something you know is completely false...

A little bit off-topic here, but yes I do sometimes find myself debating theological viewpoints. However, even though the Bible DOES have some accurate accounts of historical events, that doesn't erase the blatant historical and scientific errors it contains as well. It may jive with Assyrian historical accounts, but it still has talking donkeys, snakes, and every species of animal in the world fitting on one boat.

Ever been completely embarrassed by the householder in field service?
by fedorE ini recall i was in service with ken little, the canadian branch committee overseer, and he took the first door.
the magazines were talking about nuclear war and its impending disaster.
so ken little introduces himself and says "good morning sir,did you know that every minute they spend millions of dollars on the manufacturing of weapons......" the homeowner looks straight at him and says "yeah?

Every time I tried to use the presentations in the Kingdom Ministries or the Reasoning Book. For some reason, the responses I got in the real world were far different than what the Watchtower fantasy camp prepared me for.

They were boring as hell for me. All I ever did was stand around with nothing to do for a few hours, then I went home.

Girls in "the truth"
by B_Deserter ini was talking to a friend last night who is still dealing with a breakup that happened a few months ago.
he ended up dating a younger sister (22) for a few months.
she's bi-polar, and whenever things would get serious she would break it off.

I was talking to a friend last night who is still dealing with a breakup that happened a few months ago. He ended up dating a younger sister (22) for a few months. She's bi-polar, and whenever things would get serious she would break it off. Then, she'd beg him to take her back. After they broke up the last time, she started spreading things around about him in the congregation. He tried talking to the elders about it, but they wouldn't do anything. He brought out that if he would have led a girl on like that, they would have hauled him into the back room and taken away privileges, to which they agreed that that would have happened.
He's working on moving away from the area. But all the females in the kingdom hall up where he lives (northern michigan) have this extremely child-like attitude towards life. They constantly lead guys on, thriving from the attention while continuing to be these "ever so holy virgin maidens." It's almost maddening how self-righteous and haughty JW Women can be. To my friend, it just means he needs to move to another hall. To me, it's just further proof that being a witness is all about putting on a good show and attaining the highest status you can possibly get. I can't understand HOW they expect guys to marry only witnesses when none of the witness females want to get married! That is, not to you, because you're not a fancy-ass elder who is rich, a pioneer, handsome, and never wants sex.
So anyway, that's my rant for the evening.

When/If the society accepts Jerusalem's destruction in 586 BCE...
by B_Deserter in607 and 586 are 31 years apart, so adding 31 years to the witness timetable makes the end of the gentile times 1945. i guarantee you that if this happens, the watchtower will try to tie in the end of world war ii to this.
they'll say that the world wars were a culmination of the old world, a conclusion, and since there haven't been any world wars since (fingers crossed) that proves that we are now living in the last legs of the old system of things..

Logic and Rhetoric.
by Blueblades into those who are interested.
following are the methods of the watchtower's writing department / society.. which of the six methods of argumentation do you think the society uses?.
honest or dishonest???.

Circular reasoning is a big one. A good example is the doctrine of Jephthah's daughter. It's quite clear that she was burned alive, but since this is an uncomfortable thought for many Bible readers, the witnesses argue that he was really sending her to the temple. Their reasoning: "Jephthah knew the law and therefore couldn't have done such a thing." That's it. That is their argument. In other words: "this scripture goes against our pre-determined conclusion, therefore, it means what our pre-determined conclusion says it means."

How Jehovah's Witnesses Encourage Mental Illness
by metatron inwhile being a witness does not automatically make one mentally ill, it should be clear that huge.
numbers of witnesses are - and moreover, that the watchtower society encourages certain kinds.
of mental ills to maintain its control over publishers.
-
B_Deserter
I think they attract mentally ill people for two reasons. First, their teaching of the "evil" world ruled by Satan tells a person who has had a tough time in life that it isn't their fault, it's Satan's. Secondly, they find the teaching that God will just fix them up one day very attractive. Many go off their medications due to this belief.
