I doubt Jehovah’s Witnesses mislead “millions”, only themselves, the rest of the worlds hardly heard of them.
If any of the comments read on this discussion forum is any indication, many of those “millions” are wise, at least subconsciously, to those controlling the WTBTS but remain to play the game because of what they can gain for themselves or what they might lose.

Elders killed my cat

Welcome Spike and truly sorry about the kitten, but Elders “motivate” other Jehovah’s Witnesses to contribute for every WTBTS publication produced and to disperse those documents on their own dime, before the next batch arrives.
Dealing with Witchcraft is probably only an Elder side line otherwise a medical practitioner, as you finally came to realize, is usually the best bet.

Unfortunately Joel, that activity is exactly what those controlling the WTBTS want you to do.
By doing so, your actions create a self-induced quarantine that automatically blocks the flow of sensory information between former Jehovah’s Witnesses and the actual victims, those who remain with the WTBTS corporation.
Unless of course, when reverse shunning is used in conjunction with other means as a retaliatory response to demonstrate how childishly vile the loyal WTBTS follower is acting when they do the same towards a fellow human being.
Remember, current Jehovah's Witnesses are taught shunning is the loving thing to do but is an illusion created by the WTBTS designed to restrict free flow of information that may expose those remaining to the countless errors of WTBTS history, doctrine and dogma.

I suspect that it (Westcott and Hort text) was employed because the WTBTS could get it for free.
Since those controlling the WTBTS have always maintained they never “pass the collection plate”…I guess the old saying, “…you get what you pay for” holds true for the WTBTS audience of Jehovah's Witnesses on both counts!

Fantasy Olympics.
by Englishman inso beijing is going to hold the olympic games in 2008. unbelieveable.. human rights are now no longer an issue, apparently.. some would say that the chinese government will now be all luvvy-duvvy to its people so that they don't get the elbow before the games start.
taiwan is over the moon - no invasion for at least 6 years.. ok, thats the heavy stuff over for a minute!

What does the WTBTS have to gain?

if the wtbts is so into deceiving everyone and trying to reel in as many newcomers as possible, what does it actually have to gain from this?
why are they always trying to switch teachings to make themselves look "believable"?

In addition to the previous answers to your question aud8, those who control the WTBTS have received, for example, a legacy of accumulated assets that includes farms, body shops, orchards, printing facilities, purchase contracts with automobile suppliers and all their infrastructure needs, hotels, investment accounts with some of the most prestigious institutions of American commerce, buildings and real estate situated on some of the most lucrative soil in the world.
The WTBTS is not unlike any other enterprise, religious or otherwise, on the face of the earth. If you where in charge of a business of this magnitude, would you not use every manipulative marketing technique and legal design in an effort to perpetuate its growth, or at the very least preserve assets?
Or would you relinquish and publicly acknowledge your companies, past and present obfuscation of substantial errors of judgment and policies that may put your business at significant risk of losing credibility thus market share?
