Perhaps Jehovah's Witnesses admitting they are becoming a "mainstream religion" by attaching themselves to public icons for validation, like Mormanism or Scientology does for example, is closer than we think.

this is a must read: the following is taken from the january 15, 1952 watchtower, pages 63 and 64. it is the most cmpassionate, kind, and detailed article i ever found on the topic of how jws know they are anointed.
the article even encourages jws to consider'partaking of the emblems' at the memorial.
it is the 'final article' that gave me the 'courage' to openly declare my hope as one of the anointed.

I can't believe any person with reasonable intelligence would buy this idea.The degree of intelligence of Jehovah’s Witnesses or any other cult adherent for that matter, has little to do with “buying” belief.
Rather, in this case, it’s the WTBTS relentless written, verbal and visual propagation of FUD that has the greatest manipulative effect on the thinking or lack of it amongst seemingly normally intelligent Jehovah’s Witnesses.
And what exactly is FUD?
I thought you’d never ask…Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt.

well, after quoting ephesians 4:11-14, heres what paragraphs 8 and 9 advise:first, since oneness is to be observed, a mature christian must be in unity and full harmony with fellow believers as far as faith and knowledge are concerned.

Although I agree YK’s posts sometimes serve as a comparative example, in this case the individual would have to be secure in the knowledge that he can take the pseudo high ground to respond, if only for awhile.
Like those poor excuses for humanity he attempts to emulate, YK has proven to subscribe to the theory and promotion of FUD, which has always been this individual’s typical response, devoid of truth when necessary and mostly vacuous of “heart”, an excellent example of a Jehovah’s Witness, but still a "loose-cannon" nonetheless.

Rational you miss the point of this article; the society is not trying to ‘legislate’ belief.
The article is written to provide a clear-cut method of identifying, for quarantine purposes, those who “…advocate or insist on personal opinions…” at the congregational level i.e. “…a mature Christian must be in unity and full harmony…”, at least in appearance.
By promoting the Watchtower article, if anyone did harbor ulterior thoughts, the individuals effect on the congregation as a whole would be minimal.
Belief is highly over-rated when compared to cult conformity because drinking ‘spiked’ Kool-Aid or “shooting it out” with an alcohol and drug enforcement agency in Texas for example, is financially counter-productive and not an activity the smart cult would indulge.

Bless2u, your comments sound exactly like the ones the President of the WTBTS expressed some years ago as he railed against religion and their charitable affiliates.
And every loyal Jehovah’s Witness today, will agree with your above statement, as long as you’re not referring to the least of all charitable Corporations they are following.

as i sit in front of my computer in a drunken stupor wondering what might have been, i felt i had to post my story to those who might truly understand what i am going through.. i am a newbie here, but have been lurking around for the last few weeks.
i am 25 years old, from ontario, and totally heartbroken.. to give you some background, back in 1998, i studied with the witnesses because some friends of mine, whom i believe to be honest and sincere people, gave me (i thought at the time) some good advice to start a book study.
i did, and i really enjoyed it because i felt they presented everything factually and had a strong interpretation of the scriptures (i'm a facts man, you see).
