An attempt at reconciliation.

my cousin - who was also my best friend for 35 years have been involved in an email exchange in recent weeks.

previous to that he was mostly shunning me.

without getting into details, he had given me room to explain things, especially as to how i have 'changed' as a result of leaving.

as jws we were no doubt staunch creationists.

but how do you feel now??

do you still opt for creation or do you now feel evolution offers the right answer.

It seems to be a false alternative. Evolution is a fact. It is the basis of modern medical science, zoology, biology, etc and has been confirmed by modern discoveries from fossils to DNA to microbiology.

Is there a creator is a wholly unrelated question. Its like the issue of the earth revolving around the sun and the issue of is the Bible true. Two separate questions. They got a bit confused about 500 years ago, but most people treat them separately nowadays.

Tuesday nights- freedom is great

so i had a great tuesday evening- listened to live jazz sitting in a park by the (large water body near my house).

had a bit of pino grigio.

watched the kid play on the playground.

So I had a great Tuesday evening- listened to live jazz sitting in a park by the (large water body near my house). Had a bit of Pino Grigio. Watched the kid play on the playground. And thought- Wow- freedom is great.

A year ago (well a year and a half ago) I would have been running from work to prepare a meeting part.

Trying to convince my child that the sheer boredom he was experiencing was really absolute joy at attending the meetings.

Giving a meeting part that required transforming a meaningless, repititous bit of drivel into something slightly interesting and spending time after the meeting shepherding/pressuring someone to do more, feel better, etc while trying to convince my wife that it was ok that I was not spending time with her.

Freedom is awesome!!

for all those df'd people out there, you know the rumor about the annual encouraging call we are supposed to get?

well my df'd sister and i were talking and we had a couple thoughts over this.

our brother-in-law is an elder-of the regional building committee type.

You forgot- Lrkr- lets go see him, reminisce over old times, ask what movies he's seen lately, see if he has any good scotch, make a few inquiries about the family, tell him whats up at Bethel and - well thats it- we did the call for this year.....

I meant Bible Studies not Book Studies. It's late - time to go to bed ...

No- you were right the first time- If they actually "studied" the "Bible" they would quickly come to the conclusion that it is a horrifying book full of "God-sponsored" genocide, child murder, rape, racism, sexism and generally non-divine thoughts.

ive long held the belief the wt is more a heavy handed pusher and seller of moralistic laws than spiritual guidance,.

it was strongly re commfirmed after the latest convention.. did anyone else notice this?.

any comments on the drama?.

"A pusher of moralistic laws" - Well that about sums up the new book- from what I've seen and heard. The thing looks like a Talmud of all of the JW dos and don'ts.

From what I understand- scientifically it is possible and even likely that other life could exist in the universe. However, the chances of them evolving to a point where we could communicate at the same time in the history of the universe and in close enough proximity to transfer information makes it nearly impossible that we will ever encounter them.

I wouldn't say that the testimony of guys who have been cooped up in a tin can, deprived of oxygen, sleep, and subjected to severly high g-forces is entirely acceptable as proof of extraterrestrial life or government coverup.

The government has never really been able to successfully cover anything up.
