Is the GB crooked or just misguided?
by easyreader1970 ini ask myself this from time to time.
is the governing body operating seriously out of the belief that they are god's only channel to mankind?
or are they deliberately scamming people?

"Crooked" implies that they know that what they are doing is wrong and they keep doing it- I dont think so. You have to be quite a sociopath to do that successfully (in any field of endeavor).
"Misguided" implies that they are entirely innocent- I don't think you get to that level and remain innocent.
I prefer the term "Deluded" or "Delusional"- they have created a reality in their minds which they reinforce with each other and which is reinforced by the millions of faithful around the globe.
By the way, I would also describe the pope, archbishops, cardinals, etc, etc as similarly deluded. I heard the Dalai Lama speak and he seemed to have a sense that he was not all that people believed him to be- but he does allow millions of followers to believe that he is the reincarnated Bhudda- so maybe he's deluded too.

The Bible Story book is a classic. Ever wonder why the first 3/4 is dedicated to people dying by various means for failing to worship God.
So let's see, you can be
- swallowed by a shark,
- burned by fire from the sky,
- thrown out of the garden and left to die,
- killed in a flood,
- killed by a giant,
- killed by drinking milk and then having a stake driven through your head,
- God will keep the sun up so you can kill more Cannanites,
- killed for having sex with the neighbor boy (oh- I forgot- the neighbor boy and all of his village got killed actually),
- the king can throw a spear at you,
- the Babylonians can march you off to captivity,
- you can kill someone (almost) who doesn't bring you food- then God will kill him for you so you can marry his cute wife,
- And the grand finale- Millions of angels on horses coming to kill everyone who doesn't do things right
- etc, etc, etc, etc.
The bottom line- Worship God or be killed!!! Maybe even if you do worship God but not good enough- you'll get killed.
Such a nice book for children.

Our CO gave a talk to kids. Stay OUT of school!
by easyreader1970 inhe wanted to talk to the young ones in the congregation.
the main theme of the talk had to do with avoiding higher education.
basically the main idea was this: witnesses are losing alot of young people here in the last few years.
-

One minor, little regret- I'm sure that as the talk was being given everyone in our congo was nodding their heads saying "Yup, just look what happened to Lrkr and his wife."
Not enough of a regret to make me show up for the talk though.....

Now that seems like a realistic reason. We have known for years that the legal department has the real power at bethel. I knew it couldn't be that the GB actually cared about people having to use their gas. And my pet theory- that it is for "message control" is true- but I don't think that the GB actually worries too much about that.
The lawyers at Patterson- bingo. I think we have a winner.

Jehovies at work
by Wordly Andre inmy best friend chris, works as a supervisor for a construction company has some jehovies that work for him, the other day he was saying how he thinks that they take advantage of the fact that they need time off to go to meetings, and special events.
he goes on to tell me that they must leave early mondays, tuesdays, thursdays and fridays, also they never want to work weekends because of their service time.
i started laughing and told him that he should just fire them, because they are taking advantage of his kindness and that the jws do not have that many meetings.

It seems to me that he is just allowing himself to be taken advantage of. If they are on salary, convert them to hourly and pay them for the hours they work. If he needs someone to work weekends, hire them. If they cant be converted to salary base their compensation on the amount of work performed. All in all, quit complaining and be the boss already.

Thomas Paine "Age of Reason"
by BurnTheShips inon another thread purporting to start a discussion of this work, some suggested that it be restarted in a new thread, as the consideration there had begun in a polluted way and had only stayed at that level.
since things poorly begun usually end worse, i am starting the thread as some have requested.
i am currently beginning to read age of reason, and will return to it from time to time as time itself allows.

Now if we could just convince the current crop of politicians to live up to that legacy.

He's 9. And what do you expect- Little League distracts from preaching, teaches a competitive spirit (not) and provides lots of bad association (other 9 year olds)
Go Yankees!!!
