Doesn't that phrase "not defiled by a woman" make you sick now. To me it just jumps out as proof that the bible is a product of 2000 year old Roman/Greek cultural norms and beliefs.

was told that if you are the sort of person that cant handle changes, you wont stay in the org for long.

This isnt the case in the US. The PO is a separately appointed position. Who is the PO gets as much discussion as who to appoint as an elder. Then the CO has to approve it. If the PO is no longer serving as PO you have to write a letter explaining why. And the Service desk has to approve. If the CO isn't visiting the congo then all the local body can do is make an "interim" appointment.

It is much closer to the old Congregation Servant thing than most people realize.

Its all in the definition. To most of us "incorrigably wicked" means like Manson, Bundee, Hitler, etc.

To the society and well indoctrinated dubs, incorrigably wicked means Ray Franz, Mother Theresa (false religion!!- believed in the Trinity), Barack Obama (used to smoke!), Princess Diana (totally immoral!!)

There seems to be a struggle back and forth on this and other JW traditions. A few years back there was a similar article saying that even though wedding rings had a pagan origin they were ok. Some took that to mean that toasting was also ok. And there were stories that members of the GB would toast on vacations. Then came the Questions from Readers that shut the door on that. Now this article comes out. I think that the old guard and the younglings are going back and forth.

How do you deal with co-workers?

as a witness i only worked with other witnesses for 35 years.

now thrust out into the real world i find myself unprepared .

for many of the confrontations i am experiencing with fellow .

Although there are petty, small minded, vulgar people everywhere (including in the KH) I found that I had developed a set of prejudices from my time in the org. I assumed that vulgar speech meant lower intelligence. I assumed selfishness. I presumed to think that non-dubs were "evil" because that is what I was raised thinking.

What I found was that there are very good people beneath those rough exteriors. And many of the rough exteriors are due to abusive environments that many grew up in. I still struggle with my prejudices and am trying to develop a new radar- that looks for good people. I still have to be careful- you cant trust everyone.

But I find that many people who are well dressed, respectful, kind, and well spoken are usually selling something. Many times, these people are more shallow and devious than the tough looking, tough talking crowd.

But I feel for you finding your way in the work world after a lifetime on the inside. It aint easy. But it gets easier.

Just my 2 cents.

write a book or two about the coming great change in 2012. link it to obscure bible prophecies.

wait for something to happen (doesn't really matter what- war, terror attack somewhere, death of the pope, worse flu season than most).. then claim divine providence.

What always astounded me about the interpretations of Revelation, Isaiah and Daniel by the WTBTS was the way everything eventually applies to the imprisonment and subsequent publications of JF Rutherford.

This is probably one of the key doctrinal problems I had with the org.

If you buy into the teaching that the bible was divinely inspired, protected and translated so that it could be faithfully transmitted 2000 years to us today- why did God spend all of that energy to protect a prophecy about 9 guys going to jail for a few months??? And all of this rich, figurative language in Revelation is actually about a tract campaign that no one remembers today or cared about at the time!!??? Oh and a few conventions of a few thousand people where the main event was a prophecy about 1925 that never came true??!!!

I thought the Revelation book was bad. But the Isaiah books are even worse. Every bit of vivid prophetic language is all about JFRs trip to jail!!!!

Need Info About CONVENTION CONTRIBUTIONS

i am looking for someone to comment on the way distrcit convention budgets are calculated, including the inevitable "deficit" that is based on a prearranged dontation to the "worldwide work.".

this information will be shown in an upcoming watchtower comments video, so i need accuracy, documents, links, anything you can provide.. thank you!.

As Jeff said- the announcement of the accounts report is made at the Sunday morning announcements. Most of the donations come in Sunday at lunch or Sunday at the end of the day. This is just typical human behavior- procrastination. The accounts report provides a chance to remind everyone that they should donate and the deficit scares those who already donated into donating more. All assemblys have a deficit on Sunday morning and no one in the administration is much concerned about that because they know that Sunday lunch and after the session is the big take.

Regarding the expenses, assembly halls have a "required donation" per attendee ($4-$10) based on their operating expenses. The total "cost" is calculated from the attendance and that is put against the money collected as of Saturday. Therefore- automatic deficit. Additionally, as Jeff said, the elders usually pass resolutions at the Saturday PM meeting to donate lump sums to the Worldwide work, reimburse expenses, etc. These resolutions are often passed with a deficit showing on the accounts sheet. The resolutions are based on what has been collected in that circuit in the past. So, if there wasn't a deficit before- after these resolutions there is one. Or a deeper deficit.

Thats how it works at the circuit level. At the district level- I think a lot more of the $$ goes directly to the Worldwide work since often they get the arenas and facilities for free. They're free because part of the pitch that the Convention Office makes to the town, city, chamber of commerce is that we have 5000 JWs coming for a once a year program. They will spend $x in your local economy on food, lodging and gas. That will turn over x times in your economy, generating x dollars in tax revenues and x jobs. So- give us the arena for free or we'll go somewhere else.

Its that time again. Turn of the century + 10-15 years. Everyone's pushing the end times prophecy in one form or another. Jump on the band wagon. This could be your ticket.

1800 had its set of dooms day nuts. 1900 had its set (including our favorites) and 2000 will have its set.
