  Other Religions use the Name JEHOVAH too

  are jehovah's witnesses really the only religion that promotes and preaches the name of jehovah?.

  jw's are always claiming that they are the only religion that preaches and uses the name jehovah, and that is why only they will be saved.

  for example, look at this quote from the watchtower:.

  In the book "Aid to bible Understanding" under the heading Jehovah... it goes into detail as to why J W~s stay with the pronunciation Jehovah over any other name, Yahweh etc.and the bottom line was, Jehovah was more commonly used, and people in general were more familiar with that name.They also pointed out that Jesus is not the correct pronunciation for the son of God but it is the anglicized pronunciation,and the important thing is not the literal pronunciation ,but who was identified by that name.... Though isn`t that inconsistent of them ? you may ask ? They have no problem changing any, and everything else, when new light is revealed,but the name, whom they put so much importance to,doesn`t seem to matter, when new light shows Yahweh as being more accurate.

  I attended a funeral of a work colleague at a `Uniting Church` service some years back to a packed congregation,and one of the hymns was titled with Jehovah`s name,and repeated many times during the hymn sung by all in attendance.

  A journey through ones religious experience can be complex and diverse.I was brought up in a non religous family,however we kids were sent off to sunday school every week(probably to give my parents some quality time alone together)By the time I was a teenager I wanted nothing to do with religion,however I must have had a curiosity towards the bible,for when I was 19 I studied the bible(really wt publications)with jw`s.I then became a total beleiver for 33 yrs.Having exited the cult since 1993,I have gone through what I thought was agnostic/atheism or atheism/agnostic to my cvurrent position,which is,I do not beleive in the god of the bible as such.too many inconsistincies,contradictions ,absurdities,interpretations,etc.etc. I would describe myself now as an agnostic leaning towards atheism.The one problem I have is the apparent design of all living things,however diverse these living things are.I just cannot accept this is all due to time and chance.

  JW members and 401Ks...

  i just would like to open a little debate here on retirement and jws.

  my mother, who is the breadwinner of the family, (dad's quite pathetic) is socking away money like mad for retirement.

  i can't blame her, since i know she'll need it, but she's convinced that the end is so near.

  I was one of the fortunate ones,while still a dyed in the wool true beleiver,I obtained a position in an oil co.who had at that time a voluntary superannuation scheme going.I still beleived the big A was imminent,but hey I was not a saver,so contributing was like a forced savings for me.What I didn`t get in my take home pay I wouldnt miss.I was 40 yrs old,a lovely wife and two great boys ,no savings.The yr 1979 surely the big A was just around the corner.I walked away from the cult in 1993 and contimued working 3 yrs passed retirement age to 2007,with enough money to pay outright a house and have a nice investment in retirement. Like I said I was one of the lucky ones.

  I feel very sad for those who have spent a lifetime in service to the cult and end up with nothing in their old age.

  The Odd Question

  have you ever noticed how you are always led to the questions you are allowed to ask?.

  in the wt mags, there are always questions at the end of each article which are nothing more than turning around statements that are in the article.

  very simple answers via regurgitation.

  Do You Personally Know Of Anyone That Committed Suicide?

  lately, i've come to find out that a more than a few people in the area had killed themselves.

  most of the people i know of were in their early twenties or forties.

  for those loved ones surviving them, it was mostly a shock!

  What a sad topic

  But then that`s life???I have known personaly a couple of jw`s who have tossed themselves,but also I have known a few ,again personally of non witnesses who have committed suicide,a brother in law was one, Suicide today is a phenomenon beyond beleif,check out the statistics in your area.

  If you confront elders directly and inform them of you writing to the governing body in brooklyn,and also sending a letter to the branch office in your country naming the elders in question,you will not beleive the backflip and grovelling that will take place.( and dont be put off by" leave it in jehovah`s hands",a ploy to discourage any criticsim of wt policy )

  The fact that jehovah`s witnesses were registered as a" cultural organization",not a religous organization,was an eye opener for me.And this was in effect for decades.
