Many of us can see clearly very many patterns in human behavior by studying history. It is not reserved for only Bible students. Presenting it as so to impressionable individuals is what has them hooked, as with fortune tellers. It is about gambling with orders of likelihood. It is more likely that rainforests will decline than increase. It is more likely the human population will increase than decrease. It is more likely that wars will occur again than not. It is more likely the Earth will be more polluted by humans than preserved and enhanced. And I could go on for pages. Then I could predict consequences to these likelihoods with a good chance most of them will pay up. Bookmakers use similar tactics. Prophets are scientists of historical form to estimate future chance!

The necessity of failed prophetic dates
by proplog2 init is very tempting to ridicule the jw habit of setting dates for the end of the world/ armageddon/ great tribulation.
but prophecy has been a significant part of the judaeo-christian panorama.
there has also been a great deal of tension between "prophets" and "preists".. .

You want everyone to stop using oil but do you eat meat?
by sammielee24 init takes 16 pounds of grain/grass etc to produce 1 pound of animal flesh which means that the biggest contributor to global warming isn't your car - it's animal produce.
now - we can scream about those gas guzzlers and the emissions they put out - but if we run out and buy ethanol or drive a prius - then we sit down to a steak dinner or chow down on those burgers...then don't you think that its a little ridiculous?
whats the answer?

I am vegetarian and I think I would like to live in a wood which is a contradiction because I may die of starvation.

Nothing has ever gone south before so think on with your battery selection. I'm on with the red paint and not sure it's my colour?

If your God were in charge...
by nvrgnbk inwhat would the world be like?.
for example, today orthodox jews and christians don't kill witches and homosexuals because they can't legally.. but if things were as their god decreed in the bible, they'd be dead.. islam, when it has enough power to enforce it's laws, summarily kills and dismembers those that offend allah.. so if you're unhappy with all the gays and druggies and atheists and witches and hippies, are you secretly longing for the day when your deity of choice exterminates them?.

Were you pressured into marrying/having children young?
by breakingfree inthis is probably something women in the organisation experience more than men.
even though we were instructed from the platform to use our youth to go pioneering, the older sisters in the congregation always seemed to be pushing younger women to marry and have children so they would be 'happy' like them .
when i got married (far too young, lucky it worked out) there was instant teasing, encouragement, etc to procreate.
