Missing my siblings wedding
by NYCkid injust releasing some steam, but i'm going to be missing my siblings wedding this summer due to the fact i'm dfd.
my sibling invited me but i can't justify the travel expense (across the country) to observe a 20 minute ceremony and then go to a motel alone while everyone is stuffing their faces.. i just hits at the core of human relationships and is so divisive, but that is the point.
after months of no communication, my mother calls me this week to remind me of what i'm missing out on.

not much comfort i know - but at least you got invited and got to make the choice yourself as to whether to go or not.
from other response - are there any non jw's in your family who may go? if so, maybe you could stick with them and not get left out?

Was Jesus a Buddist?
by Illyrian ini started investigating this issue a few months back after seeing a documentary that intrigued me.
some of you may disagree with my findings and that is ok, but hopefully we can have a constructive discussion and hear both sides of the arguments.
i personally was deeply impressed, to say the least, by the apparent cogency and deep correlations of evidentiary materials that survived to this day, which supports this thesis.. there is so much more that can be or should be said here but i will try to keep this text as short as possible so as to keep people interested enough to read it.. buddhism appeared some 500 years before jesus arrival.

Jesus was born to jewish parents. although they did move to egypt for a while he was an infant that I doubt that he learned much budism.
Most of his life was spent with jews in jewish countries. as you say buddist monks reached as far as greece and eygpt but i dont think you can use that to support the argument that he was buddist.
and other religions do have correlations between jesus teaching/life and whoever they view as their mediator with god.

Divorces...isn't that a "conditional" love?
by FreedomFrog ini just read the thread on how many jw's were in "happy" marriages and it got me thinking...there is so much divorces, so many families in and out of the org.
that break up over stupid stuff.
we complain how mothers/fathers/friends cut you off because of different beliefs.... wouldn't divorces also be on "conditional" love?

I just want to say that although you can get hurt in a relationship, I personally think that it is still better to open yourself up (to the right person) than to walk around a closed up shell.
I have never had a marriage split up or tried to look after kids with hardly any money and I can understand (but not fully of course) how that must hurt.
I was abused by my father, I had decided that I would never trust people after the way I was treated and how lightly my situation seemed to be taken. I kept all my emotions locked up, and to lock away the bad emotions, you have to lock all the good ones too.
But I met someone who stuck around no matter how obnoxious I was to them. In the end I started opening up again and all the bad emotions had to come out first before the good ones could, he had to spend many nights just holding me while I cried. In the end I learned to trust again and more importantly I learned to love, like and trust myself, maybe one day you will too.
I used to be so depressed most of the time and just have manic days where I wound myself up into a frenzy so that I could interact with people and seem happy. I still have bad days and weeks where I feel down but not as down as I used to, the happy days are getting more and more.

we hand down clothes in our family. my little sister asked if she would be left handed when she got my jeans. i was 10 yrs older and she must have overheard me talking about how traits got handed down in genes.
she also thought that if she tried flapping her arms hard enough she could fly lmao, she made a bang with that one.

"But what do i tell the friends?"
by zack inso three weeks ago my wife and i had an emotional discussion wherein i finally told her that this religion was not the truth.
there was much emotion, a chill has ensued in our relationship.
(i haven't been to a meeting in 4 months now, and have not reported time in two months) i am sure many of you know the drill.. towards the end of our conversation, she asks: but what do i tell the friends when they ask about you?.
