The problem the WTB&TS has is they regard any dissenting voices as the enemy. They fear their 'secret' material falling into enemy hands.

DMCA Complaint from The WatchTower for links to KS-10 'Shepherding' book
by Simon inyes, that's right, they really do not like people being able to read that book so they wanted links to it removed (it appears they have also been going after the hosts of the content itself as well).. unfortunately, i had to removed the links (which were dead anyway when i checked) and i'd ask that people don't re-post them (sorry).
i'm sure there are lots of alternative ways for those with the information to get it to those who need it.. here are the discussions on the book:.

To Those Still Going To Meetings---How Do You Still Do It?
by minimus ini have to hand it to some of you!.

I know some who only continue to go because of family ties, which I can well understand.
It must be hard though as I took the view you had to be either 100% in or out. Personally, I took the decision simply to stop going, no slow fade or the like. The slow fade means that you have to put up some pretense of being a faithful witness; field service, meeting parts, etc, which wasn't for me.

We recently got 5 laying hens, so plenty of eggs for now.
India Scrambled Eggs
1) Finely chop and fry a few shallots (or a red onion if no shallots) together with 5 or 6 curry leaves in a little oil.
You could add a couple of finely chopped, de-seeded fresh green chillies at this point if you can take the heat!
2) When golden add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric and 1/2 teaspoon of chillie powder together with a chopped large tomato.
3) Continue to fry for a few minutes and then add 3 scrambled eggs
4) Continue to cook until eggs are nicely scrambled.
5) Serve with buttered toast

JW's don't go church... they go to the Kingdom hall
by loosie indo you remember correcting everyone who would ask you where you go to church.

See Ambersun's reply. A church might be a building but also a congregation or spiritual body. To me these convey something that is warm, human. The term 'Kingdom Hall' conveys nothing!

I still live in the same house and have all but faded from view. Being a former elder and very much at the centre of the congregation, I did have quite a bit of attention at first, including a visit from the district overseer. However, that soons stops.
My wife is still a regular attender but I get virtually no attention from the local elders. The only time I get a visit is after the memorial and when I point out that they only reason they visit is because they have been instructed to by the society to follow up on memorial attenders, they get slight embarrassed.
I agree, if you don't want trouble, then you need to hold your tongue. Sounding off about the society, doctrines, etc, is unlikely to get you anywhere.
I used to fear getting disfellowshipped because that would mean having absolutely no contact with people that I had counted my friends for years. But I am less bothered now, I would not feel any loss.

question for those with husbands/wives in the borg
by Evidently Apostate inhow do you respond when they question your enlightenment?
do you find yourself holding back explaining specific doctrinal flaws or let it fly both barrels?
i know we want our loved one to see things for what they are but even a tactfull response will cause the borg teachings to take over and everything becomes an absolute with my wife.

My wife is still very active. But, fortunately, having said that it hasn't affect our relationship.
I don't know what it is but she very rarely tells me what has happened at the meetings and has never encouraged me to go back. She has a brother still 'in' and many in the congregation have been her friends since childhood. I don't push her about the the problems in the organisation but I do on occasions raised seriously issues with her such as problems with blood doctrine, will God destroy 7 billion people at Armagedon.

How long will it be before the new 'secret' elders book is available on the internet? Wikileaks are sure to be able to get a copy.

Dec KM indicates extreme paranoia over booking hotels NOT on the list
by truthseeker inover the years, the society has included half a page in their annual guidelines when planning for and attending the district convention.. in particular, they have been very insistent that only hotels on the recommended lodging list be used.. .
the language in this month's km is even more insistent than last years.. .
here is the text in full, with the original emphasis.. .

Interesting topic.
Assemblies have always been a bit of an eye opener for me. There are so many rules; usually for the rank and file - as per "do I as I say not as I do".
If you wanted to attend an assembly abroad, you were strongly discouraged from making your own travel arrangements. I can understand if you don't travel with an official party then you cannot be an official delegate. But if you you weren't bothered about the 'delegate' bit and you simply wanted to see another culture then I could never see any thing wrong with that.
When I served in India, there were brothers and sister who had travelled for a day by train. They stayed in a cellar sleeping on a concrete floor. We visited them down there every day and took drinks and goodies for the kids - I never saw the DO, CO or Bethel reps down there though. I guess they were too busy arranging the the assembly for that, no just a minute, I was looking after the attendants, the parking, the washroom and first aid.

January Watchtower sets ambitious target for growth!
by slimboyfat inindividual action toward increase.
7 when we look at our task and the results thus far, the per cent increase for all nations on the average is splendid; but if we are going to see kingdom interests increase as we have never seen it before, what must we do during the year 2011?
individually, we cannot bring in a half a publisher or a third of a publisher, but we can, as publishers of the new world, aid another creature to understand gods purposes, help him in going out in the work, grounding him well in the truth, and letting him see his privilege of being a minister of the most high to join in this great shout like that of thunder and sing praises that jehovah is king.

It is interesting just how focused they were on figures in thise days. My earliest recollection of going to the Kingdom Hall includes seeing the big board that they used to have at the front with all the congregation's stats (for the year I think). Does anyone else remember that. I think the in your face stats must have been phased out some time in the sixties.
