It is a wonder they don't just script the prayers as well - after all we are part of God's united earthly organization? Aren't we? -

What Little Rebellious Things Did You Do When Still A JW?

I once conducted the Ministry School and had a Service Meeting Part in a full beard that I had grown when I was on holiday.
In out totally clean shaven congregation that really put the 'cat amongst the pigeons'. Some loved it but unfortunately the PO hated it and took on his self to personally counsel me. I simply replied that as far as I was concerned the beard ban reflected more the right wing politics of the Society than anything in the Bible. That was about as rebellious as I ever was.
Like Min I too was often the sole elder not to vote for various things, including against disfellowshipping people in JC meetings. But I would regard that those sort of things as a matter of principle not rebelliousness - there is a huge difference -

Jehovah's Witnesses a religion with nothing to celebrate
by eyeslice inthis is a re-hash of a post i made a few years back when i had only just 'left'.
but as time has gone by i have become even more convinced that the witnesses are, how can i put this, a fairly miserable lot.
it seems to me that what separates humans from other animals is our culture and traditions.

The ban on wishing people a merry Xmas always seemed a bit silly to me. I once worked with a young pioneer brother on Xmas day who wished everyone a merry Xmas in return. It was just a bit of a laugh. After all, it is not as if celebrating Xmas is on the same level as mass murder or something. And you can't exactly have wished people a crap Xmas, though perhaps that what the Society really wants.

by Olin Moyles Ghost ini recently received the following email.
i don't know whether to laugh or feel sorry for the sender.
it looks like i'm not the first person on this board to receive this email (see http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/166981/1.ashx).

The sad thing is that this sort of rubbish does circulate amongst the rank and file.
Love it or hate it, religion is going to be around a long time - communism proved it couldn't be destroyed. -

How to (a) write a public talk and (b) write an Awake! article
by JimmyPage inevery public talk ever given goes like this.... pick a subject, whether it's "god's government or man's?
" or whatever.... open by talking about how bad world conditions are,.
go on about how bad morals today are,.

Yep, the format sounds familiar.
Additionally, when I was school overseer I used to instruct the brothers to; "tell them what you are going to say (the introduction), tell them (the body) and tell them again (the conclusion)".
I always put a lot of time into my public talks but if push came to shove I could get up a deliver a Public Talk from the outline. There's not a lot to them mostly. -

"They no longer attend meetings"
by truthseeker inword has got our that mr. and mrs. truthseeker no longer attend meetings.. we still live in the territory of our old congregation.
instead of taking the time to call us and see how we're doing, the "friends" prefer to talk about us behind our backs, one of whom passed information to my wife's mother (who is a loyal witness) that we do not attend meetings.. just waiting for the ball to drop.. .

Know the feeling.
Since I left I have had surprisingly few visits at all. When I was a regular attender (and elder if that's a factor as well), everyone used to pop in if they were just passing for a coffee. Not any more. I can't remember the last time an elder visited my home.
The thing is is that I am not anti-Witness as such. I guess I will never go back but I do feel that they would at least get a listening ear and stand a chance with me compared to those that they meet in the door to door ministry.
The problem is they are only interested in counting hours, they are not really interested in people. -

Whatever you think of the Catholic church, I must admit they know how to perform ceremony.
I am certain that many of those who attended Christmas mass felt a sense of belonging and connection with both others celebrating today and the countless billions of Christians who have gone before, who celebrated the birth of Christ in the same way.
It is a feeling that I only sensed on a very few occasions as a Witness.
