FORMER2FREE- Hey bud, how are you doin ' ? Great opening thread by you . Nicely done. Enjoyed chatting with you awhile back, would like to chat again. Great important points you brought out like this one > " So my biggest thing now is I wanna have my research in a format that I can have legitimate references from , and I want to get a file together... "
And then this point is huge > " Study was never a strong suit growing up in the organization we never studied we read their publications AND NEVER ANYTHING ELSE. "
I capitalized the really important part to stress how important it is after mentally getting out of the JW's to KEEP researching and proving all of this stuff to yourself you are finding out online about the WT Society. After you've researched for a few years - I swear - it becomes like Pandora's box and the WT skeleton's and circus carnies start tumbling out of the closet and your head starts becoming like a swivel and as you find out more you'll say " I never knew the WT Society did THAT ! or was that criminal ! "
I went through this same phase a few years AFTER I exited the JW's and never realized how much important information was on the Internet exposing the WT organization that I knew absolutely nothing about until I researched ! But THAT was the WT Society's intention to keep all of us as what Steve Hassan calls in his books on mind control under " information control " so as NOT to learn of the WT Society's criminal, unethical, and harmful ways and past. So the typical JW doesn't have a clue how big a child abuse problem Jehovah's Witnesses have ! It's all part of the scheme of WT leaders to KEEP it that way.
It's going to blow your mind. As I'm quite sure your mind has already been blown at the things you've discovered about the WT Society. But stay steady, stay the course. Desirous of Changes advice is great to not push too hard with your wife. It might drive her back into the JW cult mode if you do. Just show her lots of love so she sees you are the same good guy she married, even better. Because others might tell her that " oh your husband is " drifting " , " weak " , or " losing his spirituality " - when the fact of the matter is that NOW you are becoming MORE into TTATT. You are REALLY truthful now, they just don't know it and are still under mind control.
So these are just a few thoughts I have , hey I'll PM you my contact info on the PM you sent me. Perhaps you could do the same and send your info to me ? Thanks. Hang in there buddy, you will be O.K. and do well. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Since I've been out of the JW organization for 15 years since 2003, I have no idea of what's become of these perverts. But in 2006 when I initially heard of the child abuse problem being huge within the WT organization I checked online on the sexual predator list in California called " Megan's Law " which shows pictures of registered sex offenders to see if I recognized any of them from when I lived in my original hometown until age 25.
I was shocked to see that I recognized 12 out of 1000 registered sex offenders as JW's I used to know or knew of in my original hometown. Really disgusting. They varied from elders to elders adult children to ministerial servants. Don't know if they were still JW's at the time I saw them on this list - however their pictures looked pretty disgusting anyway. But 12 out of 1,000 comes out to about what ? Approximately one out of 80 registered sex offenders on that list had been JW's ! That's pretty twisted. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

COCO- You bring out some great points in which I am trying to get people who are EX-JW's to think about constantly. Especially this statement - " I realize our former endeavor to develop the much touted Christian personality might have resulted in only a veneer . " Exactly, bingo, you nailed it.
The huge problem I noticed in the WT organization was that it totally changed from when I was a boy growing up in it in the 1960's when there would actually be WT studies dealing with the fruitages of the spirit - love, kindness, mildness, etc. to a staunch unyielding, uncaring, corporation in the 1980's where the mantra was as Ted Jaracz put it - " the needs of the organization are bigger than any single needs of individual brothers or sisters . "
So what that CAUSED in attitudes of JW's was that to develop what the WT Society claimed were " Christian " personalities - it meant being loyal in performing WT functions or activities. To " develop " a " Christian " personality now meant in the 1980's to answer at all meetings, give your Ministry school assignments, get 10 hours or more in field service, turn your time in at the end of the month- and a person would be considered " spiritual " or " developing Christian personality " . It didn't matter if the person was unkind, not mild, had no self control, or even occasionally beat his wife in private or molested JW kids- as long as that person PERFORMED WT functions outwardly then that person was " developing Christian personality " in the eyes of WT leaders.
So being a JW became more of an outward appearance thing to others than really any inward changes of putting on the fruitage of the spirit. And I think THAT observing that fact is one of the things that eventually made me leave the organization. Realizing I was running around and socializing with a bunch of fake people selling their souls to the WT Society , a corporation, but not really seriously changing inside as a person.
To SLIMBOYFAT'S credit, oh sure there were some , maybe a good number who WERE sincere, but by the time I exited for good in 2003 , there were far more JW's who bought into the concept that being " spiritual " meant being loyal to the WT Society at any cost , even if the WT Society did criminal actions. And being " spiritual " had nothing to do with being " good " , or being mild, kind, or loving- just obedient to the WT leaders. Just my 2 cents here. Take care buddy, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

In order of importance I choose these :
1. Discovering your authentic self - ( personal identity )
2. Examining Our Beliefs : Identifying the false and harmful ( dysfunctional ) core beliefs which are the root cause of our on-going difficulties after leaving
3. The five stages of grief/loss
4. Dealing with isolation & loneliness
5. Psycheducation
6. Treatments and Interventions
I think all of these things are important , but I logged these in order of what I feel a step by step process should be in getting back to reality in escaping the sick and twisted cult mind control influence we were under.
Discovering our authentic self is SO important because without that- a person slips back into the WT or JW cult personality . Example : Many who are dfed for years go back to the organization after many years. Reason : they don't educate themselves about HOW the WT Society controlled their minds by the dysfunctional core beliefs infecting a typical JW's sense of worth and which creates in JW's extreme lack of self esteem.( I'm not talking about core beliefs like 607 B.C.E. , the anointed , none of that stupid shit matters. ) What I'm talking about is studying the psychological repressions the WT Society instilled in us as humans, actions by WT Society leaders that steal away our critical thinking ability creating sheep like lack of self esteem causing JW's to follow and turn their brain neurotransmitters off ! THAT is the important shit to learn about. Until a cult member sees and understands HOW their minds were duped, they won't be ready to let go of the illusion or fantasy that WT leaders have any right whatsoever to invade our personal lives or invade our personal boundaries.
And then the rest of the 4 points you made come into play after a person discovers HOW they were deceived and duped, then understanding comes into play and a person is able to learn to grieve, cope with the isolation and loneliness - but not until they've educated themselves on what the hell actually happened to them ! Kind of how I see it. Otherwise if a person doesn't understand or educate themself- they'll just simmer and stew in depressing isolation, grieving, and loneliness stuck in the quicksand of their ex-JW persona - and never understanding why they cannot move forward in life. So , hey it's my 2 cents here. I've been out of the JW's 15 years, and I feel I did a lot of homework on my inner psyche and self. Take care, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

You are NOT alone !
by stuckinarut2 inthis post is mainly for our new forum visitors and members.
perhaps even those who are just lurking or visiting here but have not yet signed up.
maybe you are in the initial stages of researching and finding out the earthshattering and life changing information about the religion that you once held dear and called “the truth”.. it can be a very stressful period of time as you realise that your whole foundation has changed and that the people in your life that you call friends or family may not take kindly to the things you have discovered.

JP 1692- Very well stated. I compare getting out of the JW's kind of like when we were younger and used to break up with an old girlfriend that we didn't fit right with. At first you feel timid, trying to put the blame on yourself and I would say , " it's me, not you " type of thing. Just to take the high road.
But the longer we're out of the JW cult the picture becomes perfectly clear that this " cult girlfriend " we were attached to was the problem all along ! No need to take the high road at all and just say it like we mean it, " really it's them, not us . " We who are out of it are O.K. now and in the healing process. It's the JW cult indoctrination that's totally fucked up , not us. And that cult indoctrination totally messes up the minds of JW's that the indoctrination filters into. Some are more messed up than others by degrees, but until they free themselves from mind numbing meetings which de-sensitize their brain neurotransmitters so they aren't able to think critically- they'll remain stuck in the cult molasses where they'll eventually sink in and get smothered up with and die in. It's not a pretty picture for those who stay in and never leave.
All I can say is freedom is sweet, freedom of mind and freedom of movement. These last 15 years since I've been out have been and remain the best years of my life. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Without god what is the basis of morality?
by OneEyedJoe ini'm sure most here who've questioned or left behind their belief in god have encountered this question - without god, what basis can there be for morality?
my exwife, when i admitted that i was an atheist, once asked me "if you don't believe in god, what's to stop you from going out and raping and murdering?
" previously, whenever i got this objection, i would tend to turn it around on the other person with a response along the lines of "if fear of god is the only thing that stops you from murdering, that makes me rather nervous to be around you.

In my opinion the basis for morality has nothing to do with God, religion, or whether a person attends church. Some of the most spiritual, moral, and ethical people I've known are non-religious, atheist, or agnostic. And the reason for that is that they want to be moral, ethical, and kind because it creates better relationships with their fellow humans and makes for peace. These aren't people who expect some pie in the sky reward for being " good " or " moral " - these are people who act moral or ethical because they desire or want to act that way to create harmony & peace wth their fellowman or woman.
The idea that Christians or JW's seem to have that nobody will act kind, ethical, or loving without influence from the Bible, God, or some kind of religious control over them is absolute bullshit. I've seen many a claimed " Christian " in my time act totally unethical in the thinking " Oh well, God will forgive me because I'm a born sinner inheriting sin from Adam & Eve " . Which is just a cop out in my opinion to excuse boorish, unethical behavior. Christianity creates a lot of loopholes for people to claim the fake " inherited sin " or " evil " to excuse ridiculous behavior. Just my 2 cents here. Great thread by the way. Peace out, Mr. Flipper
