Why Are You Here?

i'm wondering why believers remain members of this forum which is clearly hostile to believers.

as one member said, nonbelievers pounce on any semblance of belief like piranhas on prey.

as former jws we should have had our fill of judgmental know-it-alls, but here we are.

I'll add on a bit to Desirous of Change's comment - just to add a little lightness to the discussion. ( You know what they say about opinions ...........)

Yeah, isn't it " opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. " ? There- I said it.

Actually I kind of get a kick out of looking at everyone's ass, or excuse me looking at their opinions.

Hey look- If I get involved with a discussion that I don't like or enjoy- I look at this board in some ways kind of like an Internet television set - I just change the channel and go visit other threads that might interest me in a more beneficial manner. I'm not the kind of person who has to have an answer for every goddamned situation or problem on the planet. I really don't take it THAT seriously.

This board is great and helps people in many different ways . There are lots of multiple discussions going on with many different threads to broaden our horizons. I'm pretty irreligious, I know some people feel they need it- great- knock yourselves out - just don't push religion onto me and I won't push my " don't believe in God , anti-Christ views on you ". Agree to disagree, kind of my motto. I have tons of other activities I'm busy with in life to lose sleep over it. Like playing music and writing songs. Peace out, mr. Flipper

A Family Divided....Again

well, just as our family was finally all out of the org., getting back to being the family we once were, one of my family members recently went back in.

i won't give many details that will give away my identity.

BEAUTIFUL MIND- I'm sorry to hear that your relative went back to the Witnesses. There are quite a few people who leave and get Dfed but never bother to research the Internet to DISCOVER the crimes and unjust deeds of the WT Society - so even in a Dfed state they still think it's " Jehovah's organization ". These are the kinds of people who don't educate themselves so no new information has ever gone into their brain neurotransmitters- thus they are still stuck in the JW way of thinking.

I've seen folks return to the organization who were out for 20 years - because they STILL thought it's " Jehovah's organization ". Their brains were stuck in " neutral " for 20 years with no new information to make them think critically- and they remain forever mind controlled. Pretty sad actually. by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.

In my opinion I feel the penalties need to be stiffer against the WT Society so they REALLY feel the $$$ pinch in their bank accounts.

WT uses their own JW attorneys who are as mind controlled as they are. AND- Probably into greedily extorting money from the flock as WT leaders are also.

Some ask here, " Why would WT not cooperate and hand over this information. " Another easy answer- because it will open Pandora's box and ALL kinds of information concerning the database files with names of over 20,000 JW pedophiles whom the WT leaders KNEW were pedophiles all these years- yet some of them WERE appointed as elders even after committing felony child abuse crimes. This would make WT leaders criminally liable. AND if names of governing body members are on that list - once again it would make them even more criminally liable for allowing this to continue.

So for WT leaders - it's a no-brainer as to why they'd rather pay out $ 4,000 per day than to be exposed in the National or worldwide media and the public finding out that WT leaders were actually physically involved in child rape and abuse. Or that there are actual NAMES of WT higher ups that might get printed in National or worldwide media who raped children. THAT would be big news. And cost the WT Society many followers and $$$$$ . I think the Titanic WT Society is just starting to drive it's ship into the iceberg. We haven't seen the last of this situation. It's about time

An Elder tried to steel and inheritance: Stays an elder!

this is the story of a woman, who’s mother became a jehovah’s witness in 1985. unfortunately, religion became a very hot topic in the family and the mother lost contact with most of her family.

the situation was so bad that the family believed that it was the jehovah’s witnesses that completely prohibited her from contacting her family.. years went by and all remained the same until 2008; the jw mother became sick, very sick.

as she felt that she could even die, she renewed ties with her only daughter.

I'm telling ya- these WT leaders are corrupt through and through and the indoctrination of unethical behavior and corrupt tactics seeps right down into the elders in congregations. I've experienced this personally in my family. My 89 year old mom- a long time JW was put into an assisted living facility by my older brother and dad over 2 years ago. My JW mom had inherited close to $750,000 in the mid 1980's and by 2014 somehow, someway her trust fund inheritance from her non-JW dad ( my grandpa ) had dropped to $ 320,000 .

Immediately upon putting my mom into an assisted living facility - the first move my 90 year old elder dad does- is take my mom's name OFF of the trust fund and appoints my older JW elder brother as executer of the family trust. This move takes away ALL of my mom's say and power in her OWN inheritance. It's disgusting. So now she considers herself a prisoner who will never be allowed to return home.

My wife and I call my mom several times a week to stay close to her and she appreciates it- but she feels like a financially defeated person whose power has been stripped from her. As you might imagine- I don't stay in close contact with my dad or brother too much. I feel like I was raised by wolves. At least the male side of my family. This WT organization has done so much financial damage and caused divisions in families it's ridiculous. And for what- so these greedy grabbers can live " forever " in a paradise that's never going to happen ? It's insanity personified

Do JW beliefs deserve respect?

Respect, no - how is that even possible? Ridicule, no - just makes them angry and defensive.

Their beliefs need to be exposed to the public because they are very destructive.

Before I met Mr. Flipper I knew nothing about jws. I thought they were mild mannered, harmless religious nuts.

When they came to my door I would politely decline.

Now I would want to grab them by the shoulders and say "Get out while you can! Protect your children! Wake up and be responsible!"

Well, that won't happen - on at least 3 occasions Flipper kept them on the porch for a good hour, educating them. We are now on their "absolutely do not call or go anywhere near" list.

someone, somehow, has figured out that im a member of this site and - rather than speak to me - has promptly reported me to the elders.

i just feel sad for my daughter.

PALE EMPEROR- Hey man- I'm really sorry that you're having to deal with this situation. It really sucks big time. It does sound like your mom and sisters are going to support your decision at least as far as not shunning you. And that is a good thing. My older mom is like that also. I left the organization 13 years ago- and she's never shunned me- always supported my decision.

As far as dealing with your wife's relatives - that is where the big challenge is going to appear - it seems. One of the biggest challenges you will probably face is not having your brother in laws wife badmouthing you to your young daughter. This WT organization and JW cult indoctrinates these people to be the worst gossips on the planet. AS you've already discovered with your brother in laws wife- many JW's do NOT honor personal boundaries - not even when it comes to turning our young children against us in a personal way. I know. After I left 13 years ago- my fanatic JW ex-wife did EVERYTHING in her power to malign my reputation to my then teenage daughters and my son. My son didn't buy into the crap- but my girls did. It's been hell trying to rekindle a relationship since.

No easy solutions here. But because your young daughter STILL lives with you- you have that to your advantage. Take the opportunity to make sure NOBODY in your wife's family is feeding your daughter JW BS into her little head about you, INCLUDING your wife. Take the time to spend time with your daughter to do fun things, show her you love her, take her on walks, etc. - because mommy's JW family will probably try to influence your daughter's mind. ALSO- Another biggie in my opinion is this - make sure that you and your wife are on the same page concerning HOW MUCH she will/or will not discuss your religious differences with others or your daughter. Tell her that you do NOT want her using these differences as a dividing tool in order to rob your home of peace. A a JW female- your wife is still a " JW wife " and should at least show you respect as the " head of the house " - at least in JW terms and definitions in a physical or providing way. And emotional way too. Your wife might try assuming the so-called " spiritual headship " on her own- but do NOT let her disrespect you in other ways. You deserve more than that.

Welcome, Believer. Your first posts here have gotten some attention!

I have never been a jw. When I was a child I started forming opinions based on my experiences. I found that "believers" did not have more honesty or kindness than non believers. I noticed that people DID think they did. I decided I would rather be involved with people who behaved well because they were good at heart, not out of fear of punishment by a God.

As an adult, now 61, I have avoided all religion along with clubs, meditation groups, multi-level-marketing, new age stuff and what have you. It all involves a lot of commitment which grows into control and loss of freedom. A lot of people need that stuff (God gene?) but others cannot stand it.

Even when not a member of a religion I find that believers find it necessary to try to convert others. It seems to me they do that to reassure themselves.

In all honesty - no one knows where we came from or where we are going. Believers seem to have a lot of trust in other human beings - believing the stories of God were given to people by God just because people say so. Makes my head spin.

As to why I am here...I came here 9 years ago when I was first married to Flipper to find out why my new husband's jw family were behaving like crazy people. Well, I found out!

I also found a group of kind and helpful people, and saw that there were people that had been destroyed by that cult. Flipper and I have been helped, have helped others, and have made great friends here.

I am not a faith "hater". I still have my opinions - faith makes me nervous because it can cause people to do harmful, illogical things. There is already enough trouble in the world.

I like to see people get their freedom.

Hi, James - Mrs. Flipper here. It is wonderful that you have reunited with your daughter.

While I totally understand why so many ex-jws have to attend the meetings so they won't lose their families, for the rest of us I feel strongly that we should not do anything in support of that organization.

The watchtower is responsible for terrible things. I feel that attending any of their events is sort of like looking the other way.

Just my opinion, and I never was a witness myself.

JAMES- Hey I'm REALLY happy for you man. It gives me hope about reuniting with my 29 year old JW daughter as well ! I finally saw my 1st grandson in early May and my daughter was kind as I visited in their back yard with her, her husband , and my grandson taking pictures. I'm hoping to buy my grandson some toys and go by their house next Friday- taking it slow- just to show them and my grandson I love them. Won't talk anything JW with them though- just appeal to them through family love.

You asked about going back to the kingdom hall to prove something to your brother ? I don't think it's a very good idea. As I don't think it would accomplish anything. If anything- your JW brother would use your attending as a manipulation to convince your daughter, " oh LOOK ! James is attending meetings again, so should YOU guys his kids ! " SEE my point ? Your JW family might misinterpret it as you REALLY being interested in the JW religion again- and that would send mixed signals in my opinion.

You've done great with your daughter by just being a loving dad , showing unconditional love as a sincere authentic human which she responded to well ! None of us need to use the JW props anymore to appeal to JW family who in reality don't appreciate our authentic selves anyway or accept us as we are. Keep up the great work dad ! I admire your example- I'll try to follow it and I've learned from you as well ! Good luck ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

SIMON- I agree with you all the way . I mean what wife wouldn't leave a husband that raped or molested children ? I mean, the judge refers to this guy " suffering " because his wife left him over him committing rape and child abuse ? It was justice being served up and him receiving Karma, as he deserved to be left !

In answer to my own rhetorical question, " what wife wouldn't leave a husband that raped or molested children " - as strange as it seems - the answer to that within the JW religion is not as many wives leave these perverted molesters as we think ! I knew of several instances where the JW wife " stood by her man " as the JW husband child molester served his prison sentence for the crime and after he got out - he got back with his ever faithful ( if not mostly stupid and naïve JW wife ) . Like Albert Einstein once stated, " Two things are infinite : the universe and human stupidity. "

REBELFIGHTER- Yeah, I hear you. I don't know WHAT this judge was thinking. I don't feel he has any brain cells whatsoever firing in his neurotransmitters. Unless he has some kind of agenda he's not disclosing
