Gut Feelings - The Second Brain
by Xanthippe ini came across a link on the bbc site this morning to an article in scientific american on gut health claiming that one reason we need to keep our guts healthy with probiotics, a good diet and reducing antibiotics is because there are neurons in our gut that are part of the process to create dopamine and serotonin for the brain.
yes happy hormones and neurotransmitters!
amazing article.. 'the enteric nervous system is often referred to as our body’s second brain.

XANTHIPPE - Thanks for sharing ! Very interesting information. Definitely makes sense. No wonder there is the expression , " I follow my gut instinct " . It can be really true. LOL. I know it is many times in my case- since exiting the JW's almost 13 years ago I follow my intuition on many things in life as I've come to be able to trust my intuition and peripheral vision in analyzing things and relationships. I believe it comes from re-training those neurotransmitters in our brain to include critical thinking ability and not just seeing things in " black and white " or either " this or that " type of views in life that the WT Society forces their JW members to have. Life is usually never only " this or that " - there are virtually hundreds of choices to make constantly. It's nice to know that a healthy stomach can enhance our decision making ! Thanks for the information ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper -

You Can Be Happy As A JW If...
by JW_Rogue inyou are delusional.
meaning that you believe everything that the wt says 100% without questioning it all.
you believe there is no other source of truth or valid view points.

out for a long time
by Sledracer inmy husband and i have been out for a long time, maybe fifteen years, i must say we are in a bit of a nowhere land spiritually, we find it impossible to attend any other church.
we really resent so much of how they messed up our and our children's lives.
we can't get back all those 25 years we were in.

One more thing to add - as to spirituality.
What is more spiritual, really, than volunteer work? Every community has needs for volunteers - if you don't want to be in a group there are always neighbors who need a little help, especially elderly.

Welcome, sledracer.
Sorry that you experience loneliness. I hope you stay with this forum.
Would be good to know current information on the nefarious (really - no exaggeration) ways of the Watchtower, but mainly there is a community of really good people here.
We have made some wonderful friends here - honest and kind, interesting and fun to hang out with. Every summer we meet at Lake Tahoe - all are welcome. There are other meetups just about everywhere.
I have seen a big difference in the quality of people who are in and out of the cult.

The poster named OUTSIDER LOOKING IN is right. RUN LIKE HELL ! If Maria wants her family back and wants to jump through the hoops to do it fine- but it will drive you crazy having to pretend the JW's are " the truth " - when you know they are not. WT Society and WT leaders are actually running a criminal organization that has killed or caused the death of thousands of people on this planet. Refusing to allow minor children life saving blood transfusions, allowing child molesting pedophiles to remain in congregations if they allegedly " repent " and then these pedophiles rape even more JW children. And then when these child abuse victims grow up they commit suicide because the JW elders won't listen to their pleas for help but continue reinstating and sometimes even appointing child molesters as fellow elders serving in the congregation. And they forbid going to college to get a higher education.
So is THIS the organization that your love Maria is so concerned about returning to ? Sounds like you need to inform Maria about some of these criminal happenings within Jehovah's Witnesses and both you and her will have an informed decision to make. In good conscience can you support this shit ?
Why not make it easier on yourself and Maria- move away to another location and start a new life together ? Or if Maria is so intent on pleasing JW family that will judge her unfit or judge her unjustly- move on from Maria and don't let her need to be a JW screw up your life. Just being blatantly honest here- I have lots of JW family still in and they unjustly judge me - even though I'm not DFed. So it's like pissing in the wind for years trying to get reinstated when they will still treat us like crap even when we aren't DFed. We are here as a support for you my friend. You need to have further awakening and please do more research like your friends mentioned to you. Take care, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

They really look after their older ones
by 20yearfader inmy aunt was a very attractive woman and it's hard sitting back and watching time rob her of her beauty and memories, but time has nothing on her so called christian brothers and sisters.her husband died about 10 years ago and she started dating an elder that claimed he always loved her since they were kids in the organization.he looks like that thing that was running around in the lord of the rings but what can you do?the courtship lasted 8 years, a couple of times i would stop by to see her and he would be over there in the late evenings with all lights in the house off, which i thought was odd but these people are in their early 60s and i haven't been to a hall in years so it was none of my concern.even if i was still in i wouldn't have said anything anyway.. growing up my aunt was always known in the family as being the air head.so it didn't surprise me when i learned that a couple of years ago the brother married another woman that was 10 years his junior, because you see even if you look like gollum in the hall brothers still have their pick of the litter so to speak.i think that whatever was holding her together snapped at this point, she started wandering around the neighborhood at night showing up at meetings with her make-up all over her face and her clothes backwards or inside out, then she started forgetting things and babbling about things that made no sense,a couple of times i found her wandering and i would pick her up and get her something to eat cause she would forget to eat a lot of times.. around this time pictures starting getting around the congregations with her looking a mess in her clothes and make-up.one of my other aunts stumbled upon the photos and she was one of the ones that alerted the rest of the family about her condition along with me (my word carries very little weight since i don't attend the hall) anyway we got her to a doctor and it was found that she has alzheimer's and it was time to settle her affairs as such.
last week as i was moving out her furniture and other items since her house is going to be sold my cousin tells me that the bank employees that my aunt used knew her elder friend very well and that her always came with her to the bank to withdrawl money.they wouldn't tell her how much was withdrawn but they nodded their heads when she said was it thousands of dollars?.
hearing this i get pissed to the highest level of pisstivity if there is such a thing.i tell my mom since she is so buddy buddy with the guy and she goes ballistic he is a servant of jehovah how dare you, there isn't any proof and innocent until proven guilty it was only until i told her that she better pray that i remain calm and not give into the anger that i feel and take a little trip to her congregation and pull him from the stage and beat the shit out of him that got her to shut up.only in a cult like this can you defend and she blamed her sister for the whole incident,my aunt was child like when he was making those trips with her to the bank cause at this point she doesn't even know who she is so he had to have seen the evidence of her condition long before we did.. i really hate this religion i've been gone for over 25 years and it still has a way of getting at you thanks for letting me vent.

My jw inlaws put Flipper's mom in a really depressing nursing home. We call her often - she is very lonely there. Every so often she says "Well, I'm in jail." She still has her sharp sense of humor and converses well.
Every so often her memory slips or she mixes up her kid's names, when she has just woken up or is sad about things. Her husband the elder takes every chance to say how she's "getting worse", they all go on about her mental state.
After all, they need to justify how they shuffled their money around to cheat the welfare system, take her out of a nice nursing home and plunk her where she is now.
"Their" money, by the way, was her inheritance from her parents.

Flipper's daughters have shunned him for years - his oldest daughter will not let him meet his first grandchild, 5 months old, unless he goes back to meetings.
Hypocrites - more mean and judgmental than anyone I know, but actually think they are more spiritual and moral. Not.
