LOST AND FOUND- Thanks for posting this. Now we will see whether they hold religions to that same level of responsibility in making mandatory reporting or religious leaders will face criminal prosecution. The problem we face here in the U.S. is there is a general lax attitude in prosecuting religious leaders when it comes to hiding these crimes. Religion gets away with far too much shit rolling downhill- and religions never seem to roll downhill with any damage concerning child abuse. Not unless the leaders themselves are the molesters- THEN the media will get up in arms about it- i.e. Warren Jeffs ( Mormons ), hundreds of Catholic priests ( Catholics ) . No wonder WT leaders want to hide the database JW pedophile list- one or more of their leaders is most probably on that list THEN WT Society would be REALLY screwed if one of the GB started getting prosecuted. The media would be on that like flies on you know what.

It's good that they are taking this seriously in England , I hope the authorities start doing the same here in the U.S. Thanks for posting this

I'm getting disfellowshipped

hi everyone, a bit of an update here on my continuing disaster of a situation.. (refer to my previous posts for the full story) my mom met with me yesterday for dinner, it was nice.. however, she brought up the fact that because i live with my boyfriend and how everything has gone down, i will be disfellowshipped.. i think the elders basically have enough proof of this.. due to the anonymous tipper (still have no clue who it was, i live in another town 100's of miles away from my old congregation territory), and my mom telling them.

i'm not sure when they will announce it, or if they will contact me prior.. at this point i feel so emotionally dead i don't care- on the other hand, i don't want to be disfellowshipped because i do not want to loose a relationship with my mom.

that is the whole reason i tried fading out.. .

Lots of great comments here by very caring people. I feel for your situation Raven. I was DFed for 4 years in the late 1990's and have been inactive and out since 2003- quit attending. I'm still treated by some of my fanatic JW family like I'm DFed- although my older mom has never shunned me. Grreat Teacher's comments about " emotional blackmail " I relate to very well- my older siblings and older elder dad have used that on me for years. It doesn't work. I won't be coerced into a fake relationship just to please them.

If your mom cannot accept you for who you are- it may be time to re-analyze the relationship. Real love doesn't put demands or judgments on people and use religious beliefs as a whipping post. Something I've learned in dealing with some of my still in JW family over the years. We are here as a support to you and offer our friendship to you. As some have said on this thread- you will gain better friendships who are more accepting to you as time goes on. Hang in there

i would love to see more newspaper articles that did some actual objective reporting, rather than puff pieces.

Orderly, clean, law-abiding, well-groomed individuals who are members of a destructive cult, who will shun anyone who leaves the cult, will look the other way from crimes in their cult if the cult says to. Will die or let their kids die rather than have a blood transfusion.

And with their squeaky clean outer appearance (we know that appearance is big with them), will recruit into their cult without warning recruits of those repercussions.

Kinda like wolves in sheep's clothing even if they don't see that in themselves.

So no, can't give them any credit. Those bikers and politicians may have more genuine concern for their families, and for doing the right thing.

If the words were rearranged the article would be accurate: "Loyalty to the Watchtower organization's rules are the biggest factor in our lives. The biggest focus is to positively impact the organization at the expense of household and family. It's a pretty fear-inducing experience."

It is unfortunate that so many in the general public don't have a clue how destructive a cult the Watchtower is. I've run into a lot of people who think of them as harmless church people. I set them straight when I can.

Died Due To Refusing Blood Transfusion

well, last monday my mother, a jehovah's witness since her baptism in 1968 died last week because she would not accept a blood transfusion.

she was 76 and had lung and skin cancer.

i know that the cancer would have gotten her anyway, but she was bleeding internally, and was told that she needs a blood transfusion, as her blood count went all the way down to 3.2 (should be 12-14.

RRB- I'm terribly sorry for the loss of your dear mom. You have my deepest condolences my friend. The WT Society is a criminal organization- and the WT leaders should be prosecuted for murder and crimes against mankind. Especially considering the thousands of JW's like your mother who have died ( or should I say been murdered ) for following the WT Society's insane directives about not receiving life saving blood transfusions. Someone needs to pay for these losses of life. I hope in time somehow, someway a class action lawsuit will be successfully brought against the WT Society leaders for the damage they've caused to thousands of lives.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting this Barbara. WT Society leaders are actually blood guilty if you look at the thousands of JW's who have died due to following criminal WT indoctrination refusing blood transfusions, thousands of child abuse victims who have committed suicide over 137 years of this organization existing, thousands more committing suicide after being dfed and shunned, and also there's Malawi ! Hundreds of JW's dying for what ? Because WT leaders told them NOT to buy a political party card.

We could go on and on. Russia is well within their rights to look at this group as a subversive, dangerous mind control organization. Every bit as dangerous as Scientology. Perhaps more dangerous due to the subtle nature of the deceptions as opposed to being outright aggressive in the news media like Scientology. Harder to detect. Go Russia. Now only if the U.S. and F.B.I. would bring the hammer down more on the WT Society . At least regarding criminal WT child abuse

Critical Thinking-is that phrase a stigma?

when i first heard the term 'critical thinking' it was as a teenager during a watchtower study.

the study went on to elaborate how we shouldn't be swayed by critical thinking.

there was no explanation that the term didn't mean 'to criticize' thoughts and words, but rather that it means 'to objective think and to evaluate thoughts and words'.

You bring up an interesting point regarding how the Watchtower Society or Jehovah's Witnesses are constantly CHANGING the real definitions of words in everyday language. Your last sentence in your thread says it all, " Especially since the BORG uses the term Critical Thinking like it's a swear word. "

Very true. But remember - THAT is the BORG and JW's who view the term " critical thinking " as a swear word- people in the REAL " outside " world look at " critical thinking " as a GOOD thing to possess.

JW's have been indoctrinated to misuse, abuse, butcher, and create a new errant WT language due to WT Society indoctrination. So many examples of this , for instance : the word " worldly " . When you think of the JW definition of that word it denotes negativity as well that a person would be " bad " - or a sinner - but in the REAL " outside " world the term " worldly " has a positive definition of a person who is wise, is informed, and street smart in being aware of trends, customs, or news that is happening around them in the world. Which is a good thing.

The WT Society also changes the definition of the word " generation ". Once again - WT Society's view of that word in a length of 70 - 80 years and even TWO lengths of 70 - 80 years when they describe two overlapping " generations ". But that's not true. In the REAL world a " generation " consists of 25 to 30 years time from when we are born till we are at age when our children or the NEXT " generation " is born !

So the WT Society is deceptive and manipulative using mind control over JW's EVEN in their misuses of word definitions in order to keep tight control over JW's minds so the WT leaders can conveniently keep abusing JW people and keep control over their minds, lives, finances, and destiny.

Whether it's " critical thinking ", " worldly ", or " generation " - there are many other words that WT Society misrepresents on purpose to keep JW's confused, misinformed, and mentally stunted in order to keep them under control and have access to their money. It's all a scam to deceive and control. I agree with you that we should use positive versions of these words to assist JW's , but at the same time I refuse to assist the WT Society by saying they are using these words correctly. If anything that would send a JW back into the mind control and misuse of words. But I agree with you that there are other words we can describe things to JW's with that won't confuse them. It takes care on our part to think this out even before we engage a JW in conversation. Good thread, thanks for posting it

JWs in denial, so sad

i had a couple of jw sisters call at my door today.. they started with the bizarre "can we read you a scripture" and read about "death being no more" and asked what i thought of that.. i said it sounded like a mix of disney and dumb.. they then launched into how god was going to put an end to death and wasn't that wonderful?.

i said it would have been more wonderful if he'd not created death in the first place.. they thought man created death by disobeying so i questioned why god couldn't have just forgiven them.

apparently "because he loves us" is supposed to be a satisfactory answer to why he kills us.. i asked how loving it was to kill hundreds of thousands of children in tsunami's, disease and so on.. at this point, they gave up on the 'god is love' and switched to the bible being true no matter what because it was an old book and moses had written the first chapter (says the book).. when i suggested it really wasn't that old and that most of the bible myths were copies of older stories from before it was written they questioned if i studied the bible and theology.. then i told them i was brought up as a jw so knew it was all crap.. now it was game on, they immediately switched to play defence questioning why i'd left (and i think they'd already taken a step back away from "the evil" obviously emanating from me).. not much time to say much before they cut and run so i told them i'd left because i found out it was all based on lies and that the watchtower was corrupt and covered up things like child abuse.. oh no, you're thinking of the catholics one of them said (some disdain in how she said "catholics" as though "we're so much better than them").. "well, i challenge you to do a search for the australian royal commission and you'll see the testimony the watchtower leaders gave and the damning evidence that they covered up abuse and reported none of it to the police.".

SIMON- Very well done. It IS incredibly frustrating to speak to JW's any time. It becomes even MORE incredibly frustrating when they find out we were once JW's - then they totally shut down, turn their minds off and run. They think " Satan " himself will run after them. They are so delusional, paranoid, and fearful in the indoctrination that they've received - that their minds are TOTALLY controlled by WT dogma and teachings. Very scary and very sad that they will be enslaved to this cult until many of them die of old age.

It looks like you gave them some good things to research on the Internet - and hopefully their curiosity will allow them to do so in private without any other JW's knowing. I think my wife and I are on their " do not call " list now as they know I'm the guy who harasses them about WT child abuse. They haven't called at our door since 2012. I usually catch them in the park at their witnessing carts. LOL. Good job, keep informing folks ! People need to hear about WT injustices
