What a loss to the music world ! I agree Done4good- the music world WILL be a very different place without him. A very cool , gentleman in the greatest sense of the word. He helped turn the Beatles into one of the greatest if not THE greatest music group in modern history. A producer who let the Beatles experiment and make music as they wanted- yet had the courage and balls to help direct them and give advice and direction as they needed. As McCartney stated he truly was like a father to all 4 of the Beatles. Without his direction and influence I doubt the Beatles would have ascended the upper heights of rock and roll history as much as they did in a huge way. Rest in Peace Sir George- you and the Beatles brought us years of joy in the music and will continue to do so - at least for me- forever -

what buzz word from the jw's do you hate & why?
by Sabin inso my hubby has been on a bit of a roll about the jdubs, we were talking a lot about them & he said the buzz word he hate's the most is "worldly" why?
because he say's "with that one word they have condemned (according to their believes) a person as being worthy of nothing but death.
".

Imagine what some of that stuff sounds like to someone never a jw. (Me, for instance.)
Worldly. Very insulting when you realize just what they mean. Knowing that Flippers jw relatives will look down their noses as me for being worldly, especially after their own "ethically challenged" behavior. I don't know anyone in my worldly circle of family and friends who would pull the kind of crap they do.
Fleshly. Sounds like they are talking with their mouth full of mush.
The truth. Spiritual food. Yuck.
It always creeps me out when religious people use archaic words. I get kind of a nightmarish mental picture of fanatics from past centuries.

by freeandcontent inhi, new here but have been lurking for a while.

Welcome!
I don't think you are overreacting. Indoctrinated jws have some twisted ideas about what is good for children.
Perhaps this is an opportunity for your child to learn tolerance - in that there are people we care for that have nutty ideas. It's probably never a good idea to leave a small child alone with jw's for too long.
Wish you the best. Mrs. Flipper

I like this quote about the elders- this is pretty funny- " Never would we want them ( the elders ) to lose their joy or to sigh because of something we do. " Yeah, right.
How about this quote being re-written more accurately, " Never would we want the brothers or sisters to lose their joy or to sigh because of something the ELDERS do. "
I think that's a tad more accurate. Give me a break

Leaving the JWs

Hurting- I'm so sorry you experienced this abuse in your family and this WT organization. You are not alone. Many here have experienced the same things. You are to be really commended for furthering your education in Psychology and learning critical thinking ability. It was that critical thinking ability helping you decipher being abused that helped your mind to clear up in order to exit the Witnesses. Good for you.
Please know that you are a good person and VERY worthy of good things happening to you in your life. It was the JW organization and WT Society's teachings and policies that made us have low self esteem - but it will get better in time the longer you are away from the emotional vampires dwelling within the JW cult. Keep researching and reinforcing your mind with positive vibes outside the WT organization. We are here for you as a support. Take care my friend and hang in there

The "most honest people" on earth....?
by stuckinarut2 inhave we noticed how often the society uses comments like this?.
"jehovah's witnesses are the most honest people...etc".
while it may be true that witnesses as a whole are decent, law abiding people, are they truely "honest" when the very foundation of beliefs are based on mistruths?.

Don't get me started. Well, too late...
I was never a JW, and knew very little about them until I met Flipper. Ten years later I am pretty disgusted at the dishonesty and lack of ethics, and not only at the top levels.
The many exjw friends I have made, and Flipper's exjw relatives, are exceptionally good people in every way - those seem to be the ones who leave if they can.
I have seen so much selfish, materialistic, and downright mean behavior done by self righteous jws not only in so many experiences of members of this board, but in Flipper,s jw family.
It is a really bad cult.

Why Were / Are the Best Rock Bands British?

Berrygerry- I tend to agree very much so. I just think that British rock bands ran further with the blues influences of the African American original blues artists like Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson from the 1930's and 1940's than most American bands did- and it produced some of the greatest Rock n roll in history because the blues were bigger in Europe and England than over here in America where blues started.
Because of extremely prejudiced views of white Americans towards African Americans especially in the 30's and 40's most American bands tried watering down 1950's music where the be-bop sounded tepid and boring compared to original blues in my opinion. But Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry owe everything they ever started to those old African American artists of the 30's and 40's. It's like the old expression goes, " The blues had a baby and they called it rock and roll ".
I've just noticed over the years as a musician myself that white rock n roll bands from England give more credit and respect to the blues musicians who started the ball rolling in the 1930's and 1940's. Some groups in America do too- but in England they vocalize that respect more and honor rock n rolls roots

Elderess- I'm really happy that your husband and you are on the same page with this. It's amazing how much fear and guilt were indoctrinated into our minds by the WT Society where it made us even fearful of revealing our inner thoughts to our marriage mates ! Isn't that weird ? That should raise red flags to any of us that Jehovah's Witnesses ARE a mind control cult.
I want to cordially and warmly invite you to an informal yearly gathering or picnic we have over a 3 day period each year of ex-JW's - many from this board at South Lake Tahoe , California July 8th - 10th . It's the 9th year in a row we've done it at Camp Richardson and we just hang out and chill by the campfire, BBQ food, share new friendships and battle stories of our exiting the JW organization. We had about 50 people attend last year and we'd love to have you come as well ! And everybody is laid back and very supportive to one another which builds confidence in ourselves and helps rebuild our self esteem that the WT Society tried stealing away from us. Hope you and your husband can make it. We'd enjoy your company.
Hang in there. Say " hi " to your husband for us and if either you or your husband ever want to chat on the phone- just PM me and I'll give you me and my wife's number. I was born and raised in it and like so many others here- I understand what you are going through. My wife and I offer our friendship to you
